I've only been to the Statute of Liberty once in like the 6th grade (waaaay before 9/11) and I realize that despite the security and tourist hassle, I need to go again! That cloudy image of the Statute of Liberty is so haunting....how many immigrants saw that exact same image on a cold snowy NYC day 100 years ago?? FASCINATING! Thanks for sharing!!

I just booked my tickets to do the crown climb in February and I’m watching you so that I’m prepared! It might be corny these days, but thinking of all the poor, tired, huddled masses, yearning to be free, who passed that lady with the torch and were filled with hope is very moving to me.

Wow, thank you heaps. I am watching this and just checked the mentioned website. I got 2 tickets of only 8 left for the day I wanted. So very grateful for the tip. This will be my 3rd trip to NYC and my first time visiting The Statue of Liberty. The first time she was closed for routine maintenance and cleaning and the 2nd time due to the 2012 cyclone season. Fingers crossed.

My wife and I was just there last week. We got caught in the snow on the jersey side cause my torch lighter wasn’t allowed thru security. Well it was a hundred dollars lighter so I wouldn’t leave it behind. So we went the day after where the weather was clear again. I’m so proud to have been there. That was amazing. Always wanted to go to the crown. When it reopened after hurricane Sandy, my son encouraged us to do the trip. Tickets purchased 3 months out. Son, granddaughter and I did the climb- from pedestal base to the crown! Awesome! I found the manifest papers from the early 1900’s when my parents came to America. Mom was a baby, her papers are handwritten. Dad was 16, his are typed. They are a treasure!

I went up to the Crown during my first ever visit to NY in 1990. Back then there was no advance tickets or anything. It was simply a case of being on the first ferry in the morning and running as fast as possible to join the queue to get to the Crown. The intertwined spiral stairs and the views of the amazing engineering and then the views from the crown will live with me forever.

I can't believe there's a 2 month waiting list. I haven't been to the Statue in 25 years, but back in the day, we used to just go there on a whim, completely spur of the moment, and go right on up. Of course, there was no war on terror yet, so security was very minimal.

I went with my sister, mom and Aunt right before we went to England to see where my grandpa and his parents were from. It was really neat to do a backwards version of their journey. To stand where they were processed, to then go see the house my granddad was born in, the cotton factory where his mom worked. We went in April and it was still a bit snowy. I didn't know how far in advance you had to reserve for the crown, so we only got to go to the pedestal, but we thought it was great. Also, we never saw the elevator. ROFL.

Well to be clear.. I was comparing the Staten Island Ferry to taking one of the tour boats that just gets a little bit closer. I think actually going to the top of the Crown is the best bet, if you have 3-5 hours to commit to this and Ellis Island, absolutely worth doing at least once.

This is a classic NYC landmark in winter! I miss the statue of liberty and the winter cold a lot! I went to the statue of liberty in May of 1996 and went up to the pedestal with my cousin and brother and waited in that cold spring afternoon in that line for almost 40 minutes and took great pictures inside and outside the statue and of the NYC skyline and of the Twin towers of the World Trade Center. Then we went to the Ellis island museum and had lunch there! Great memories! Thanks for sharing this awesome video!

My MOTHERS Father( my maternal Grandfather&GM) came through Ellis island .one of my mother's brothers who was born in the United States returned with him from Lebanon( after a revisiting journey) and the brother was denied re-entry after a long ocean journey for red eye . she never saw him again and he went back and lived the rest of his life in Lebanon.. my mother's father sold matches door to door when he was in New York and later had a garment business in Boston in what is now exclusively our Chinatown. the boat stops at Ellis island I just did not have any great burning enthusiasm about getting off to go make landfall. I don't know if my father' visited the statue of Liberty when his destroyer came to the Brooklyn Navy yard in 1940 or so.. I never asked while he was alive. 🇫🇷🗽 But I still have his 1930-1940 world's Fair coin..

Actually the best way to see both the statue and Ellis island is go to battery park and there should be a stonewall/ fort thing and there will be a booth/ hut selling legitimate tickets for the statue and Ellis island. Now they aren’t cheap but whatever it’s legitimate and legal. The dock they will point you in the right direction for the boat. It’s a lot easier than going online and having to reserve those spots. Now the crown on the other hand forget it unless you either want to shell out the money or be put on a massive waiting list especially when they only do about 200 tickets for that a day. And honestly no elevator and thousands of steps to climb to get to the crown not worth it. Ellis island though is worth it as you can sit in the seat of the inspectors and imagine a sea of people just waiting to try to get into America in the 1800’s. That and the museum really worth the trip. The sections closed off are the rejection quarters (people who were rejected entry due to various reasons but never illness) and the back of island where the insane asylum was and the illness wards.

we went over to NYC in 2022 but did not go over to the statue nor ellis island ( it was the tail end of covid and the crown wasnt open then) we did a circle Cruise at night around the statue which was incredible, but returning in jan 2024 and already booked for a day over there and up in the crown

I’ve just booked my ticket for June 2024, can’t wait to see it. I’ve also been up the Eifel tower. And I’ve seen the 2 statues of liberty in Paris. ❤

We have tickets to the crown in a couple weeks. Our security check in is 9 am. Two questions: how early should we really arrive? And what time would be most likely to land back at Battery Park? We are seeing a show that evening and trying to figure out if we have time to enjoy a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge after The Statue but with enough time to get back to hotel before the show.

John, any chance would you know if there is an official authorised/verified reselling website where I could buy tickets for the Crown tour - if there are groups or people who no longer can attend and need to sell their ticket? I would love to buy their ticket for the start of August this year. They’ve already sold out 😢.

My sister gave me a trip to NYC for my birthday a couple of years ago, and part of it included a trip to the crown -- it was AWESOME!!! Like you, we walked up -- we're no wimpy elevator-takers! So cool to see it in winter. Great video!
