Bukan saja turis luar, tetapi masyarakat Indonesia sendiri juga banyak yang tidak tahu ataupun belum pernah cobain Es Selendang Mayang. Jenis minuman jajanan khas Betawi yang bisa dibilang adalah salah satu warisan jaman dulu. Mungkin banyak yang belum coba akan mengira rasanya sama saja dengan jenis es lain seperti dawet atau mutiara. Tetapi Es Selendang Mayang berbeda sama sekali. Coba bayangkan gabungan rasa dan tekstur dari kue beras yang lembut gurih, ditambah dengan santan dan gula jawa. Jadi ini adalah perpaduan antara jenis minuman dan jenis makanan. Sebuah jajanan minuman yang juga mengenyangkan. Sayangnya, minuman Es Selendang Mayang semakin jarang dijual. Selain karena masyarakat Betawi sendiri menganggapnya sudah kuno, juga sedikit banyak kalah pamor dengan Es Dawet atau Es Cendol. Di tempatku masih banyak yang menjual dengan resep asli yang sangat nikmat sekali. Akan menjadi lebih banyak penjualnya ketika masuk bulan puasa di sore hari dan hari lebaran.

Bule is more to neutral words, is not a bad word or a good word. Just neutral. That term of Bule is created on 1960 by Irish man named Benedict Anderson, he is one of biggest historian n political science (his expert about Asia countries history, culture, n politics). He also teaching in US university. He created n popularize Bule term to changed Indonesian people called all white people or European as "tuan", tuan means sir, but sir in here is more like when a peasant called lord to people above them or royal people in england. That because when Indonesia get colonize by Dutch, Dutch people want to put himself above local people, so local people must humble themself to Dutch with calling them as "tuan". When Benedict stay at Indonesia, he feel uncomfortable when local people humble themself with calling him "tuan". So he asked to change the word of "tuan" become "whitey foreigner" or "orang asing berkulit putih" at first. But most of Benedict colleges (a white people) protested that term of "whitey foreigner". Then Benedict created a new term, "Bule" instead of "tuan" or "sir" or "whitey foreigner" as a neutral term to refer white people or western. Then that term is get popularize in 1963 and people use it until now.

Can find food on every street in Jakarta. PIK is a trendy mid to upper class cafe area. Not really good for tourists interested in real Indonesian life.

I like both topping / filling. But when it's still hot, i like the cheese better because the chocolate one can be too liquidy and brutally sweet (sweet taste sweeter when it's hot). But cheese taste better when it hot. But that depends on what type of chocolate they use and how much. Some vendors use cheap chocolate sprinkles, and even pour sugar on top if it, which make me feel kinda sick (eneg). Also i like the peanut. I think it's the base filling in classic version, before chocolate and cheese goes everywhere 😄

Very nice, martabak is very good, the street food in Indonesia is really really cheap. You should try Es Podeng, Onde-onde, kue lapis, klepon, es serut, and still many more. These deserts are really good. They like to sell bakmie, bubur, nasi campur, sate, nasi uduk, these are all the main courses for they sell for street foods. For snacks or side dishes, they sell tempe, krupuk, lemper, panada, pastel and so much more. They also like to sell food and drinks. That is all 👋👋👋

*Don't underestimate. You should try chocolate & cheese mix together in that Martabak Manis, that is THE BEST mix for all kind. All foreigners who try that combination for the first time always say WOW!! on their first bite!!! LMAO. Mixed chocolate and cheese is not common in the western world, they don't even want to try, because it's so weird. But Indonesians love that. Usually also used for topping grilled bananas with chocolate and cheese on top. The key is always use a cheddar cheese coz its kinda salty, don't use any kind of cheese! While chocolate tastes sweet and cheddar cheese tasted salty, unnoticed, the salty and the sweet taste, unknowingly, is extraordinary delicious when mixed together!*
