Atkins meals are the best of the low carb frozens. Sadly you missed Atkins Chili Con Carne. Add extra shredded cheese, some salsa(opt) & sour cream. Dump THAT on some black pepper cauliflower rice (or even scrambled eggs, or splurge and “spend” the carbs on some tortilla chips…). Dressing up the tray of stuff coming out of the microwave is key. It can be quite tasty & satisfying.

I didn't realise until now but I also pronounce it collie-flower. I'm from the North of England but have also lived in the South before and no-one's ever mentioned it (and people in the South would often talk about stuff like different pronunciations and slang etc.) and I've never really noticed other people saying it differently either. Perhaps you belong in the UK. Also, I'm probably in the minority but pie crusts (sides and bottom) are actually my least favourite part of a pie because I find them too dry, but I do like a flakey pastry lid.

For those trying to understand net carbs, in the US at least, the way carbs are calculated is they subtract the weight of the fat, protein, water, and minerals to get the carbohydrates. But obviously, that includes fiber and other ingredients your body doesn't digest or turn into calories. So to figure out how many carbs you're actually absorbing, they subtract the fiber, etc from the carb count to get net carbs. Adding fiber doesn't change your net carbs since it adds to both the total carbs and is then subtracted for net carbs. So, for instance, 5 grams of pure sugar = 5 grams carbs - 0 grams fiber = 5 grams net carbs. 5 grams of sugar + 5 grams of fiber = 10 grams carbs - 5 grams fiber = 5 grams net carbs. That said, fiber can slow down your absorption somewhat (which helps even out your blood sugar spikes a little) and does make you feel fuller (so you stop eating sooner or are less likely to go back for seconds or snack). But it doesn't neutralize carbs and isn't some magic trick to make carbs go away. And, obviously, anything your body isn't absorbing has to be dealt with by your guts and is going to end up in your toilet. This is why high fiber and sugar alcohols and so on cause gas, gripes, and diarrhea.

Yeah..unfortunately, there is a lot of us who need lower carb meals. Atkins products, most of them, are fine to good. Mostly fine lol. Healthy choice meals came out (I think in either the very late 80's or early 90's) and that was when there was NO FAT ANYWHERE thanks to Susan Powter. She was awesome but now that we know more, she wasn't right lol. I was OBSESSED with her. Anyway, Healthy Choice zero fat meals had to be even worse (I haven't ate them since). They were absolutely TERRIBLE and they had a weird chemical taste as well. I wonder who is buying and enjoying them? Please, tell me why??? I just love that you all are doing video versions of the website for us!! So fun!!!
@c.w.20003 ай бұрын
Unfortunately we don’t have the Atkins meals in Canada (or at least in my area). I have been buying my spouse Healthy Choice (some other flavours like pesto and teriyaki) and he hadn’t said anything. Granted, he mixes it with quinoa and other vegetables. Anyway, I’ll have to get him to taste it on his own and make sure it’s okay.
@FJA---3 ай бұрын
The problem comes in that some of us eat a piece of cheese and the glucose number goes up so we need to count every carb we eat so the insulin matches. And most of those taste pretty bad. Then there are carbs in the low carb (sometimes more than the regular product) and then add in fibre so they can say they're low "net" carbs. You still get a spike. And finally, add in all the extra chemicals, salt, fat, etc and you aren't eating anything that could in any way be thought of as a healthy meal. If you want veges get fresh or frozen ones. If you want to make some sort of tomato sauce use the unsalted canned tomatoes as a base. You don't have to eat those chemical laden atrocities.

Ironically, I like the pizza one well enough to keep buying it. I don’t mind the cauliflower florets, the pepperoni was well spiced/seasoned, could use a bit more cheese with the sauce ratio. I think stirring it before eating can help with the oil distribution. I wonder what the Sporked likes better, this one or the Stouffers bowl pepperoni pizza Mac and cheese one (why they label it mac and cheese I still don’t know). unless they haven’t had it yet, I could be wrong

I know they're great and have been really enjoying most of their meals (Beef & Broccoli, Cheesy Chicken/Rice/Broccoli, the Shrimp Fajita (without the beans for me), Chicken Fried Rice needs a little extra seasoning but it's alright, and I'm sad about the Garlic Chicken because it's the best of their chicken but the taste is blah). I just want to hear what you all have to think compared to other meals (I went for years without eating frozen meals and then tried Marie Callendar's so I was surprised how good the quality seems to be).

Also those of us on disability mean by not costing a fortune something different than average person as most of get less than $14k a year US before anything comes of so yeah please think about when stating value if you do.
@c.w.20003 ай бұрын
The median annual household income in the US is over $70,000, and the individual median is $38,000. I’m sure it is extremely challenging living on a small amount of money, but I don’t think you can expect a general show to specifically address a small group. Maybe there is a program or support group that can help you (I live in Canada, so I don’t know if you have services available). Possibly you need prepared food because of your disabilities, but it will always be cheaper and healthier to make a batch of soup or stew in a CrockPot and freeze it than to buy it prepackaged.
