Mini ITX user here. Case: Coolermaster Elite 130 Motherboard: Asus 797i-PLUS CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 overclocked to 4.6GHz RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB single channel kit, CL8 Power supply: Cougar 750(I think. I don't remember >_>) STORAGE: Boot drive: 60GB Kingston SSDNow General storage: Some Toshiba thing, 3TB Dedicated broadcaster: WD Scorpio COOLING: Deepcool Gamerstorm Maelstorm 120 closed loop sandwiched between two 120mm fans, push pull configuration. Overall it's a really nice case. Really nice and small, and hellishly quiet too. At the moment I'm running on onboard graphics (Buying a secondhand 6950 from a friend soon) and the CPU peaks at 65c. One thing that I BEG anyone building in a Mini ITX case to do, is to use a modular power supply. Your cable runs will just be so much neater if you do, and you won't have the rats nest next to your components looking like shit and impeding RAM and chipset cooling.

I made my bitfenix prodigy a year ago and I couldn't be happier. It happily fits an intake 230mm front fan, two 120mm out top fans at the top, a full sized gfx card, and a AIO water cooler with single 120mm out the back, room to spare for a couple of HDD's.
@Slim11 жыл бұрын
what about the rvz01, imo that looks like the best gaming mini itx case.
@iNViSiBiLiTi10 жыл бұрын
That's one of the coolest cases ever, but it's a SFX power supply; the largest power supply i could find to fit inside is the Silverstone Strider 450W gold :(
@SheepInACart10 жыл бұрын
Chr0n0s1nvisible Remember that 450w of power is actually plenty for a mITX system, you only have one CPU and graphics card, and even then the higher wattage CPU's like the 6 core i7's and AMD's FX9xxx series will not fit as you basically can't get motherboards in those sockets. Thus 125w of CPU and 300w of Graphic card power, with the remaining 50w running hard drives, optical drives, wifi and generally acting as a buffer. This will allow a reasonably overclocked I7 and any single GPU graphics card available, with a fairy large overclock on anything but a R9 290, R9 290x or titan black. So really 450w is plenty of power for any small form factor system, especially when you take into account the fact the silver-stone SFX units are built rock solid and will preform at full rating (or even slightly above) for full 24\7 operation even a realistic case temperatures. Its true the extra 50w of rating in the Hadron air inbuilt PSU is nice to have, but they are both quality units that are more than up to the task of running a fully loaded system, so don't let there small stature put you off.
@SheepInACart10 жыл бұрын
Alexander Edwards I agree it should plenty of power, but where did you get the 50% every year idea? Nvidias high end cards have always been in the 200-250w range (excluding duel gpu solutions), sure Maxwell aims to "dramatically reduce power consumption" but I doubt it'll achieve real worlds 50% savings, let alone getting similar savings the year after. Also if you don't mind me asking, whats the cpu, gpu and case temperatures in your configuration with the RVZ01? its a case I quite like the idea of and have been considering for a while now, but I'm worried it'll get too hot inside to sensibly run a 3.5" 4tb 7200rpm Seagate Barracuda HDD that I intend to use for bulk storage.
@SheepInACart10 жыл бұрын
+Alexander Edwards Thanks for that, sounds well within safe limits... which is good because being currently in sub-tropical Australia I'd also describe myself as in a hot ass climate. I'm probably going to go with a higher end CPU simply because I do render work ect on my computer, but I agree the newer i3's that pack hyper-threading are great value for gaming. ***** I'd say the fx6300 is about the sweet spot for AMD gaming, as it'll handle any single gpu on the planet no problems. However the issue is that there are still no mITXAM3+ boards, and no good mATX ones. Having said that if you can live with ATX the fx8350 is still my pick cost\value wise out of any CPU for other tasks, for similar money to a i5 it packs similar punch to the older i7's, overclocks well and with 8 real threads doesn't slow down badly when your recording or live streaming. However if you need mITX gaming, your still going to have to go intel, the haswell i3 is much better for the money, especially because you can upgrade to a i5 or i7 later if you need to, while AMD still lacks a high end FM2+ CPU.

I think it's important to figure out which case provides the best cooling for a graphics card. In my book that would be a prodigy with a vented side panel and of course the 250D. The 250D though has an air configuration that has air being blown OUT of the vent that the graphics card would actually be trying to suck in air from... While the prodigy can be set up to have negative pressure in the case, and put a magnetic dust filter on the side and block what few vents that are left.

I fell in love with this small form factor. I ended up buying a 250D, putting a Maximus VI Impact inside with an i5 4670k cooled by an H100i, 16GB of Vengeance Pro RAM, and an EVGA GTX 770; all of this powered by a Corsair AX 860i and running one SSD and a 3TB hard drive. It's a beautiful build, but was hard as crap to put together. It's hard to build in these small cases.

Spasibo Dmitry for excellent review and advice on the Mini ITX cases. I decided to go with Corsair Obsidian 250D based on the information you provided me with about the length of the GPU and it's compatability with Obsidian case. MOBO: Asus MAXIMUS VI IMPACT CPU: i7- 4770K GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 GDDR5-4GB RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB PSU: Seasonic X-850(SS-850KM Active PFC F3) 850W 80 Plus Gold (Fully Modular) STORAGE: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB & WD Black 3TB Performance Desktop Hard Drive Cooling: Corsair H 100i, two Noctua NF-F12 PWM fans as well as one Noctua (NF-A14 PWM). Fans were purchased to replace stock fans. CD/DVD Drive can't remember the brand. Ended up taking it out because there was not enough room to breathe for the system with all the cables in it. Overall, I am a very happy user. It was my first build and it went quite smoothly. All the planning and research payed off in the end. Thanks HarwareCanucks!!!

I bought the Fractal Node 304, since it seemed at the time like the most understated and discrete. I fitted it with an i5 4670 (not the K version) as well as 8GB of ram, an 840 EVO and a 1TB HDD, along with the GTX 760 Twin Frozr edition. However after using it for a while I wish I went with the Bitfenix Colossus, I had no idea it existed alongside the Phenom and the Prodigy and I wish I'd known sooner. It looks just as nice as the Node, would fit my components with less fuss and cable mess and it'd have support for a 5.25 inch drive (which after a while I've noticed I depended on more than I expected.
@HardwareCanucks11 жыл бұрын
You could always go for an external slim optical drive with USB.
@GingerChristmas11 жыл бұрын
I could but that'd go against the discrete and understated look I wanted. :c Plus it'd perform worse and it'd be loud as hell with the vibrations.

The Corsair Obsidian 250D is my choice of case. The air-flow design is just unparalleled. CPU, GPU, and PSU all have their own exclusive intakes and exhausts. With a water-cooling options for the CPU and an Nvidia reference design card, none of the heat of any of these components gets sent to any others. Throw in extra room for cable management in the basement for greater airflow over the motherboard from the front-intake, and this looks to be the best small form factor case to push as much power as possible without worrying about heat.

Silverstone SG10b is IMO the best almost no compromises small chassis around. Matx support (so SLI/CF), only 23 liters, full atx PSU support, Slim optical, up to 6 drives, great cooling (180mm fan, two 120mm and 3 80mm), mostly dust proof (exhaust isn't) and you can fit giant air coolers in it (even the NHD14 If memory serves). About the only real limitation it has is no 240mm rad support but that's not that big of deal. I mean you can jam two 780ti's, a 4770k and a ton of storage in a space that's only slightly longer and wider (but shorter) then the hadron air.
@Skooteh11 жыл бұрын
Thats something i really think should be considered when comparing SFF cases. The ones that aren't ITX. Seriously it's kinda stupid that the 250d is so much bigger and yet still being compared to the other small form factor cases in spite of being much larger. Also, the lian li train case. This review requires 100% more trains. It's just so well executed.

Node 304 and 250D take the cake for me, thinking of actually buying them both here's why: Node 304 for NAS, HTPC and allround media to gaming beast with good performance: can mount a 140mm rad AIO in back for silencing, could be mentioned in review guys :). And for people who are afraid they are getting a "microwave" it's also available in all black with with white drive mounts and fans(inside); 250D for high performance/ high end gaming SFF just love all the features: airflow, 240mm AND 120mm rad, bigger atx psu AND long gpu card, great layout; Both have great airflow, dust proof options, sleek enough design for me and good pricing.

A showdown between the CoolerMaster Elite130 and the Fractal Design Core 500 would be great!
@yziquamizzle11 жыл бұрын
I used to have the Sugo SG03 (20L) which is practically the same size as the prodigy and colossus (30L) which have m-atx variants. If you go looking for the SG05 and SG06 (~15L), it is like a smaller version of the Coolermaster elite 130 (~20L) but limited to 10" video cards which is a pity because that limits all the high end graphics cards like the GTX 780Ti unless someone makes a short version of the card.
@flemeister11 жыл бұрын
The SG05/06 is actually a bit under 11 litres. Also, if you don't mind a bit of modding, you can cut the inner-front-panel of the SG05/06 (leaving the outer front fascia intact), and allow installation of the GTX780/780TI/Titan: hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1039858840&postcount=1867 The reference GTX680/770 fits without modding as well (barely a mm to spare). =)

You are right, I stand corrected. The space between the motherboard and a push-pull 120mm aio watercooler is nuts in some of the builds that I have seen.

Hadron air on my desk now. some compatibility issues with r9 280x dc2 asus, but it will fit with a little modifications. for the cooler I've gone for a noctua nh-p12 it covers the mobo so the result is quite unspectacular, but it does a great job keeping the 4670k cool and happy at 4.5ghz.

I went with a Silverstone FT03B-Mini. I modded it though. I cut the floor to allow for a GTX 770 and also I didn't use the hole for the SFX PSU. I used the grille's holes to mount an AXi860 ATX power supply. When looking directly at it, it doesn't look very nice, but it is well hidden below the plastic "ceiling" where the power button and USB3's are located. ASUS M6I with I7-4770K and a slim radiator off center to allow for the GTX 770. The 770 started off life as an EVGA with the ACX cooler but I added an EK block to the GPU and EK waterblock for the M6I. 2 Smasung 840 Evos are double sided stick taped to the inside of one of the side panels. All in all it's pretty tight inside. But the whole thing is out of sight on my book case. I have a small USB female dongle that slightly protrudes out the top to allow for my Logitech wireless keyboard and trackball. All I need now is WiDi....

I'm building a new pc, and I decide to go the mini ITX road, I chose silverstone raven rvz01, asus impact (still have to check if it will fit) and I havn't decided yet on the rest. I would have loved to see, in this showdown, more cases from silverstone (sugo line), the new itx from xigmatek (NEBULA) and more from lian-li like the TU-100, and to close it off with style why not the IN WIN H-FRAME mini.
@Brent64349 жыл бұрын
I think the perfect Mini ITX case for most people would simply be the Cooler Master Elite 130 fully dust-proofed. That is the ONLY reason why I bought the Node 304 instead (which I've had for almost a year now and it has nearly no dust in it without cleaning). If they just put good removable dust-filters on the Elite 130 it may bring the price up slightly but overall it would still be cheaper than $70 at most. That's just my two cents.

I went with the Fractal Design Core 500, wanted an optical drive. A Gigabyte ITX mother boarder, Silverstone SSF, EVGA 960 graphics and two SSDD, Intel Processor 4790, Crucial 16 GB, thermal take CPU cooler, LG blue ray optical drive. I added 1 extra 140 mm fan. I like the case and debating getting a NCASE for my next build. We are wanting a HTPC for the media room.

I just got through one hell of a build. I was going to do mini ITX at first, but there were a few things I absolutely refused to compromise, the Titan Black GPU, and 120+240mm radiators+fans+reservoir+pump+gaskets on practically everything... In the end I had to go with a micro ATX compatible case; the BitFenix Prodigy M....yeah... It BARELY doesn't fit all that stuff... After months of trying to complete the Prodigy M build, I said screw it and ordered the beefiest Micro ATX case I could find, the Fractal Node 840. It is probably the widest micro ATX case you will ever see, but I don't care at all, that thing is sexy as hell in all it's blue UV reactive and custom liquid cooled glory!
@KeyvanKhademRavandi10 жыл бұрын
didn't they all fit in the original prodigy?
@nowmowcow10 жыл бұрын
Keyvan Khadem Ravandi Sadly no, and I actually bought both versions of prodigy before I got frustrated enough to get the Fractal Node... The original couldn't fit a 240mm radiator at all, let alone the extra 120mm rad, keep in mind that beyond the two consecutive 120mm fan mounts, radiators also need additional space for where you hook up your tubing, so the one 240mm mount in prodigy wouldn't even fit a 240mm rad...go figure

I hate how Mini-ITX cases still have large footprints. They should be designed better with a vertical top-down design instead of the traditional front-back design where the drives sit in front, and motherboard on the back. It should be built with 6 harddrives at the bottom and the motherboard on top, which would almost halve the depth of the case while making it taller.

@mygetrichslowplan10 жыл бұрын
Kendric Choi That's fair, but to be honest, that only barely beats it, and in doing so will limit your graphics card choice as well as create a far less "media center" friendly shape. Something like the RVZ01 will slide in nicely on top of a blu-ray player or cable box, or stand up nicely beside your TV, the case you listed would look out of place, and would throw off any kind of balance in your home theater. IMHO, that is.

If you really want to build an awesome NAS, then check out the Silverstone DS 380... supports 8 hot swap 3,5/2,5 Sata/SAS drives, and 4 2,5 drives in a drive cage. Thats a total 12 drives natively.

DIY CUBE at USD 50ish. Removing top and side panels reveal that the unit is strong without the panels on. Takes ATX PSU, mATX or ITX motherboards. Radiators can be mounted front AND top. I will not be water cooling, yet, had to build for the heat of the Philippines.

I went the coolermaster 130. I like its no frills design, and it's at a great price.

Will the Mars 760 fit and work inside the Evga Hadron?
@MrYoursoup11 жыл бұрын
How hard is it to google it? No it won't fit. Why not just get a GTX780?
@asterisk442411 жыл бұрын
MrYoursoup Oh IDK, maybe because google didn't have my answer and I can't find any video of someone trying. You have any info to clarify it not fitting Mr.Google?
@asterisk442411 жыл бұрын
MrYoursoup Sorry if I was a little rude, your comment just seemed a bit rude to me.
@MrYoursoup11 жыл бұрын
It's a bit rude, but just looking up the length of the 760 mars and the length available seems arbitrary enough to me :)
@iNViSiBiLiTi10 жыл бұрын
MrYoursoup I think the Mars 760 also needs more power than the Hadron's 500 Gold plus power supply can provide.

Atm using Bitfenix Prodigy and am quite happy with it. I am however building Silverstone SG05 computer for my kids - just missing PSU and cooler atm :(

my personal choice would be the corsair 250D. it's best for 240mm radiators like the H100i. really great case. looks really slick if you have a matching color theme.

Why wasn't the ThermalTake Core V1 Cube included in this list? Or have you already done a video about it?
@Abrahamrengifo9 жыл бұрын
have you guys think in a new edition of this video dividing it in compromising like with the lian li pc tu 100 and no compromise like with the corsair 250d that will be amazing keep the great videos

Could you do a review of the Silverstone Raven RVZ01, and the Cooler Master Elite 110 mITX cases?
@Brian_Fantastic11 жыл бұрын
I had my eyes on the Elite 130, but decided not to go mITX for this build. It's my favorite of this bunch, though.

How come you did not add fan's or air flow as one of the variables,I would think that,that would be one of the biggest problems with a small case,or am I mistaken?
@JustinBone8 жыл бұрын
I think we should have a new one of these, featuring some of the newer ITX cases.

Cooler Master Elite 130 is the best, zero contest. Best case I've ever owned by far.

I think you made a mistake with the BitFenix Colossus because its linked to the Phenom.

sg05, sg08, ft03-mini. If you want small M-ATX, go with the TJ08-E or SG10. It would be awesome if Ncase M1 was mass produced (I have one :D).

my current build (also my first build) uses a Corsair Obsidian 250D case. it's not bad IMO. i'm going "budget" with an i3-3240 processor, Cooler Master Seidon 120 water-cooling, Geforce GTX 750 Ti GPU, Gigabyte H77N-WIFI mobo, and other components i can't remember right now. it runs very nicely even with the small form factor.

Silverstone Raven Z-01 is the best choice for compact yet powerful capability and $90 price point, needs to be in this list.
