When you do the frame protection film, use a coin of some sort, and an exacto knife, and on all corners of the film, trim out a radius. Having the rounded corners will help keep the film from lifting off later.

Awww man, I have to get a thread lock. Although it's not MTB related: On my last Europe tour (from Austria to Spain) the bolts of my baggage porter came off and my bags -left and right- were sliding along the asphalt behind me, leaving some holes in my waterproof bags. Some thread lock would have saved me a lot of trouble back then. Funny thing was: Because I couldn't find the original bolts on the street and for lack of any spares, I had to remove other bolts from my bike, which I thought were not THAT essential; just to use them for the porter.

@partyongarth06 жыл бұрын
My shimano Deore disc brakes seem to have lost a lot of their bite, they were great for about a year but then i had a long spell off the bike and when i came back to it the brakes were terrible. I've tried bleeding the brakes and replacing the pads which has helped a bit but they don't feel half as good as they used to and i can no longer lock the front wheel, even when pulling hard on the lever. Once they're warmed up they feel slightly better but especially on cold rides they can be pretty useless. I've tried cleaning the discs with white spirit and sanding the pads with sandpaper and also adjusting the callipers but nothing seems to get them back to how they were. They used to be great, but now they suck! Any ideas??
@gmbntech6 жыл бұрын
Have you considered sanding the disc instead of the pads? That's the actual braking surface...if you've changed the compound of pads it could have become semi-glazed and therefore a bit polished (less grippy). Give that a go...if you've run the same rotors for a number of years you may want to consider a replacement!
@partyongarth06 жыл бұрын
GMBN Tech no I haven't tried that but I will definitely give it a go! Do you recommend I go straight in there with a rough sand paper? Is it possible to damage the rotor?
@gmbntech6 жыл бұрын
It's taken a lot more abuse in it's life than a rub with some sandpaper! Stick on a medium grain (you don't want to scratch/gouge the surface) but put some effort in to it for sure ;)

..How important are 'Jockey wheels'..do they need replacing ever,...are they just a guide for the chain,are aluminium ones better than the stock plastic ones?...cheers Doddy..#askgmbn tech..
@mattferdinand2746 жыл бұрын
Jockey wheels are an important part of your drivetrain. Dirty and/or worn out ones can add resistance and can affect shifting. However you can, just like a cassette or chainring, make them last an incredibly long time with proper cleaning and maintenance. Most jockey wheels are made of plastic (some are alloy) and some have bushing type bearings, others cartridge ball bearings. Regular maintenance should include removing them from the derailleur and giving a good clean and new lubricant. If you do need to replace them, aftermarket or original parts are not hard to find and are generally inexpensive.
@TopseyKretts6 жыл бұрын
thanks for that advice Joe...So how do you know when they need replacing,i.e worn out ?(i do keep mine very clean,and lubed.)..would you say metal ones are better,harder wearing?
@TopseyKretts6 жыл бұрын
I,ve just had a quick look at some,and to confuse me some more,some come with a different number of teeth??
@spencermurray43786 жыл бұрын
Topsey kretts be awawre that getting one with more or less teeth won't do anything with your gear ratio but will impact your chain tention. Also, you might be limited on size from your deraillur. I'd go as big as possible because it will last longer, and just lengthen my chain a bit. I'm not sure on this, but I'd assume metal ones will wear your chain faster where as plastic ones will wear themselves out faster.
@TopseyKretts6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Spencer...only like the metal ones,because they come in snazzy colours,lol..like a bit of bling,but didn't think about it wearing the chain faster,so thanks...not sure though if mine are worn,as i don't know enough about them...they wobble a bit,and not sure if they are supposed to do this,or they are in fact worn out?...

We get ours from various online builders merchants...whatever is cheapest! It tends to be around £20 for a small roll though. Expensive...but when you compare it to the cost of the bike and think that it's still going to look great in a few years...

Buying a service kit (seals and foam washers) for my fork (fox) is nearly as expensive as giving it to a shop. Kit is minimum 30€, a service at my shop is 50€. Count in other materials (grease) and my time that service is something i would love to do myself but it's actually more expensive than giving it away. Is there any way to get at least the foam rings for cheap? Also some say, do wash them and reuse, others say don't. Classic situation...
@gmbntech6 жыл бұрын
Are you sure that €50 is parts included? Sounds to us like that's the basic fee and it'll be parts on top...so once you add the €30 yourself it could be beneficial to do it yourself if you want to try! We'd just replace the foam rings. We wouldn't bother re-using them!
@bernhard22696 жыл бұрын
I don't remember the exact amount, but i was surprised how "cheap" it was. But i always had it done with some other things done, so just the fork service could be more. Thank you for your answer, though! Fork service should be up this summer so i'll probably give it a go, i sure know where to find the right video to get the basics right ;)

do i need to put lacquer on stone chips on an aluminium frame
@mattferdinand2746 жыл бұрын
You can! While aluminum won't rust, it does oxidize. Also, once a chip is in your paint, it leaves an edge for moisture to get trapped. This can degrade the paint around the chip which just makes more of it come off. Plus, if you get a color match, your bike looks better! :D

Can helicopter tape be removed safely and easily after a long time? Or even a short time, without destroying paint or other bike finish?
@gmbntech6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely can! If you wet it as you peel it off it comes unstuck a little easier. It will leave some sticky resin behind but there are wipes and products that get that off and don't damage the paintwork. Think similar to isopropyl alcohol :)

@gmbntech6 жыл бұрын
If you really know what you want out of your bike and how adding various degrees of adjust will change the feel then it's a great option to do so! Such as if you're riding a DH bike in a bikepark with nothing but long flowy trails. If you've just heard it's a cool thing to do though it's probably one of the more expensive ways to change the feel of your bike!
