I always used to pick my outfit for the next day, and before bed do a single spray on the front and a single spray on the back of my shirt/jacket/whatever and let that sit overnight (usually stuck with milder, non-aggressive scents for work). Doing that would allow the fragrance on the clothing to soften, get milder and skip to the dry down. Then in the morning after my shower, I would get dressed and do a single fresh spray aimed at the very top of my head. This would allow the mild smell on the clothes to mix with the fresh notes from that morning to mix as I warmed up and moved around at work. Maybe it worked, maybe not, I dunno, but it made sense when I did it.

Wow. As a perfume nerd, you actually gave me new information. I want to try my old favourites in different places now. I wonder if the perfume quality would affect how it differs on different parts of your body. It would be nice if all perfumes had such well developed 3 stages to be able to experience different facets in such an interesting way. More and more perfumes have alluring top notes and really boring and common basenotes and not much of a mid-layer. Which is why it's good to invest time in sampling to make sure you get something you truly love at every stage because perfume prices can be ridiculous. I often buy a pefume based on how good the basenotes are but that's a nice tip about spraying in the hair to have more time with the ephermal and fleeting topnotes.

Love your channel and the content you are sharing, Dacob ❤ I have 20 bottles of perfumes and tons of samples. I am always curious to sniff what’s new and fun out there, but honestly, there are only a handful of perfumes that I feel completely comfortable and happy wearing them. We need much lesser than what we want. Yes, it takes time to wear a perfume through and through to experience different facets of it, to truly understand one. Time is precious, we don’t “own” the perfumes, we only own the experience we have with them.

Thank you, Dacob, I needed to hear that unread book analogy. I am only pretty recently started on my perfume and fragrance discovery and reconnaissance process and I will admit I was a touch... enthusiastic right at the start. I have no regrets, because if one were going to take up painting, it makes sense to at least get a few different colours to start with, but when my last order arrived, I got a bit of the feeling when you are walking back to your table at an all you can eat buffet and you look at your plate and think hmm... What have I done, exactly? I don`t think I went too too far, but I absolutely have to make sure I figure out what I`ve got on my plate before I go back for more.

I spray perfume in the back of my hairdryer in the vents and wait for the alcohol to evaporate and then dry my hair for a heavenly scent that stays for awhile

@Dacob:Thanks for sharing your thoughts about how to buy and appreciate perfumes. I will confess when I buy a perfume, I will search your channel and see if you did a review of it. I appreciate your knowledge of this topic. For me there is nothing worse than going to a perfume counter and the SA does not know the product. When I asked the Louis Vuttion sales person about the top notes she looked at me like I was crazy. Said Louis Vuitton doesn’t really go into top notes. Why does it matter?! I said oh my goodness… However, I asked to look at SLGs and things and she pulled out the whole drawer. So I guess that made up for it?!

After major buying spree of 2 years, I realized that the best smells for me are the ones used by my husband, but chosen by me. The note of vetiver, nice spicy composition or a gourmand patchouli are my jam. To the point that I don’t really care what I wear on myself, it just has to match with him

Love this, Dacob! So useful and very educational! By the way, I was watching your other vid about the giant beautiful bottle of no. 5 EDP when i was stuck at the airport in Dallas for 12 hours when i was traveling last week--that airport happened to have all the Les Exclusifs there, at the boutique near my gate. I got to smell and sample Gabrielle L'eau and fell in love. Thought of you! Hope you are doing well this week.

Hi Dacob. I admit, I am FoMo-ing for a few fragrances. My curiosity is tweaked by Middle Eastern EDP's and perfumed oils. I keep yearning for the perfect vanilla-honey-cigar smoke balance. Or something like Chai spice-burnt sugar...I keep searching. I may just wing it and try a few. Oh, I also have FoMo for a bottle of good old beautiful TABU. ❤

Hey Dacob, loved loved loved this video!💯 You definitely make a point: I know that certain perfumes that I enjoy wearing are not automatically those that people appreciate on me and vice versa!🤣 Some fragrances are sold to us like "men catchers" or whatever, and this doesn't make sense!😅 You can stink and attract people, and you can literally splurge perfumes on you and not be noticed at all. I'm team "wearing perfumes for ourselves", this is extremely personal, and if I'm not feeling comfortable with a scent, dispite publicity, I won't consider it a catch! I leaned with time to listen to myself and only to go for things that I'm absolutely sure, will fit me in the end. Maybe, this is why I don't get the niche market right now...🤔 To me, every thing looks the same, smells the same, and prices are insane. Plus, They're desperately trying to make us think we're unique, but we are not! Any "hot on social" stuff is a bluff! I'm feeling nostalgic about the 80's when women started to invest in cosmetics, and would have a signature look, with of course, a signature scent...Hugs 🤗💝💝💝

This is so interesting and I completely agree. Some personal anecdote that sort of relates to the topic on your video; my partner has allways stated that I have a "cinammon- y" scent about me and weirdly enough I tend to like how fragrances with cinammon, star anise qnd liquorice notes blend with my body chemistry. I do think there's some truth about choosing a fragrance that aligns with how you already smell
