I completely agree with you about the Harmony Elite remote. It is by far the coolest and flexible of all the smart home gear I have. There is literally nothing you can't control with it. I just bought a cheap Chinese-made LED strip and it now can even control that. The remote really should be talked about more.

Great vid. You should see my basement. Is completely hooked up with all this stuff. I also have it controlling my air conditioner upstairs and front door lock. Only issue is when you have 2 Hue bridges, Alexa only sees one at a time. The issue with harmony is that it won’t power on the PlayStation 4, but there’s a $30 adapter that will help with that. Other than that it all works great.

You should include the Lenovo Smart Display with Google Assistant as well! Awesome new gadget that Lenovo and Google made, the screen adds so much more features to the assistant than any other smart home device. I would consider my house a smart home, since I'm using the Lenovo Smart Display as like a main console, and have other Google devices connected to it. You should definitely make a review about it!

And then there is the remote door lock (or confirm door is locked) and changing of temperature on your smart thermostat. Smart ceiling fans and a front door cam showing on your TV! I definitely use the motion sensor for the front door light and closet light. You can even program it to change channels. Like watch CBS but who watches TV that way anymore. Lol. It will even program to a receiver. So tell it to turn on Xbox or Apple TV and it puts everything in the right input via macro.

You can also add the Lutron light system and use it with say a six light bathroom so you don’t ha e to buy 6 bulbs. And then you can say to Alexa turn off or on all the lights or the bathroom. I have both Hue and the Lutron wall switch and they work seamlessly.

Great video, I like how you incorporated both the Google Home and Echo into into your setup. So many of these videos just talk about Alexa, when the Google Assistant is just as good in my opinion... I have both too and I actually prefer Google Assistant. One thing for homeowners is lights that are controlled by a light switch work way better with a smart light switch than they do with Hue light bulbs... Because when the switch is off you cannot control the Hue light and try telling your wife she can't use the light switch anymore. In my opinion Hue light bulbs are best for lamps or if you want to change colors. Or apartments where you can't swap out the switch.

@cadencebs91036 жыл бұрын
Hi there, nice Video! Iam with you, that the logitech harmony system isn't talked enough about. But the way you described in the video is only a smal part of that, what the harmony can do. 1. Activitys can activate multiple Devices, set in- and output of them and map them right. For example. If you have a receiver, a soundsystem and a TV, you just create an activity using all three of them. If you now say "Increase the volume", the volume of the soundsystem increases (not the one of the TV, if you mapped it right). If you say "Change to channel 7", it will change the channel to 7 on the receiver. The basic idea is, to add all devices you need for an activity to one activity. In your example maybe the fireplace would be nice to add. (i also have an audio switch to change optical input which is also changing based on the activity) 2. Harmony also supports Phillips HUE. So you can also add the HUE to your activity. Lets just say you add the activity "TV", it will start receiver, tv, sound system and will switch to the right scene on your HUE. 3. HUE supports Osram Plugs. So, with Harmony, HUE and an Osram Plug, you can create activitys, that include power on, devices on etc. and will switch power off, when you close the activity. 4. The Harmony remote also has 2 buttons for Powerplugs and 2 buttons for Lights 5. You can change the activation settings for your different devices. For example, if your TV needs 15 secs to boot, there would be no use if you send the "TV on" signal and right after it the "Change Input to HDMI 1" (For example, if you want to alternate between different consoles and TV. So in Harmony you just configure the boottime of the TV to 15 secs and the signal to switch input will come after 15 secs. 6. If you have a HTPC, you can controle it with Bluetooth and Harmony. I try to configure nearly all routines with my Harmony, because my girlfriend likes to use the remote. But that way she can have her way and i can have my voice commands. But in theory, you can do nearly everything with the harmony elite alone.

How do you configure al this? I can image that you have a certain schedule active when home or away, controlled by time and sensors. On top of that you have the voice commands or remote controls that override this. For how long is this override then? Any info on this would help alot!

In addition to all that was shown you can use the Harmony to control an Xbox One (and X) too. If I say “Computer Xbox on” it turns on my Xbox and goes to the home screen... if I say “Computer Xbox Last” I added a script in the Harmony app to wait 15 seconds for the Xbox to boot and then press A so it starts up what I played or watched last... simples.

Awesome setup sir. I recently purchased a Harmony hub. I went to Lowes and bought a pack of puck lights by Energizer. Set them up, went to teach the commands to my Harmony hub and no luck. I did a little research after I noticed my puck lights control uses a RF signal. Based on my findings, you need the control to utilize an IR signal for the Harmony hub to learn the signal. If I am wrong, please correct me. Once again, great system.

Do you know anyway to turn dumb ceiling fans into smart ceiling fans? Would you recommend smart wall switches to automate a dumb gas fireplace? Is buying into Phillips hue light bulbs a better idea than trying to turn your wall switches smart?
@TEQREATION7 жыл бұрын
Wow, great questions here. So to start, for a ceiling fan I think a simple smart plug like this will get the job done amzn.to/2H1ZVGV Works with Alexa, and Google Assistant. To be honest, I would mess with anything the word GAS attached to it haha, i'm unsure how real fireplaces work. If fire is activated by a simple ON/OFF, then I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use a smart wall switch. Just be careful. Lastly, your last question is exactly what I did. I rent this space therefore, i'm not getting too crazy with removing outlets. I just leave the light switches fixed to the on position, and installed lightbulbs all over the pace. It's just much less of a headache for me, unless you're into electrical work. I hope the info was useful, good luck!
@clintroberts16 жыл бұрын
There are smart ceiling fans that work with Alexa. I think Hunter. You can get Lutron switches and hub that work with Alexa and work seamlessly with Alexa and the Hue bulbs. I have both for those areas like the bathroom that has 6 bulbs or the fan that has those small bulbs (although Hue makes those now but are expensive). Essentially get both of you want some color (Hue)

Great and very useful ideas. I especially liked what you were able to show how the harmony hub and remote can be set up to control dumb devices that come with a remote as there are so many now that do and are very affordable on Amazon. I’ve actually been looking at those same battery operated stick-up lights but to be sure they are the same can you post a link to the lights if you haven’t already. I didn’t think they would be as bright as they looked in your video with only 3 led’s but they looked nice and bright. Can you confirm that for me please and also let me know how long they stay looking that bright before the batteries need replacement. Thanks so much! UPDATE..I JUST SEEN WHERE YOU HAVE THR LINK TO THE PUCK LIGHTS.. IF YOU COULD PLEASE JUST RESPOND ON THE OTHER QUESTIONS THAT WOULD BE GREAT OF YOU..THANKS AGAIN!

@TeQreation what happens when you’d like to turn off one activity while keeping another still active (using Harmony)? Does it not shut down everything?

Hey bro. Nice video. How did you get Google Home to control your tv without Chromecast?
