There is so much awesome happening with this LT1 Camaro. First off - its running an OLD SCHOOL LT1 from back in the day! Secondly, a rear-mounted, 88mm turbo has been added, allowing A/C and power steering to stay with the roomy engine bay …and Thirdly - its capable of MID 7’s at 185mph!!! WHAT?! We NEED to see this beast on Drag Week next year! Hats off to the owner!

Nice to see another non LS powered car. As an owner of an gen 2 LT1 powered Impala SS I know the potential these motors have. The early Optispark design and location gave these engines a bad rep. Once you fix those issues, it's as good as, if not, better than any other SBC.

I have an N/A stroker lt1 and it runs solid 11's. people are always surprised that it's so fast 'for an lt1'. People give these motors alot of shit but once you open them up, they're actually very powerful and dependable. I've have a few of them and they definitely feel and sound like old school motors. The absolute worst design flaw with them tho is the opti.

A lot of people judge Lt1, always about there opti spark or vacuum leaks. There good motors as any ls1.. Its much more easier to build if you are on a budget. its nice to see people still build them
@yamahondarider
@yamahondarider 8 жыл бұрын
I like the LT1, but neither of those statements are true. They are heavier than the LS1, the heads on LS motors are far superior as are the internals and fuel/ignition systems, and the cost of LT1-specific heads make it more expensive to build. But thats just technology progressing as time went on, you can't fault the LT1 for that. the LT1 was out of the box superior to the majority of factory stock gen 1 SBCs and you can still make good power with them. I'm going LT1 in my '88 Trans Am over LS because fitment is easier and I only want around 350whp which is easily done with a fairly aggressive cam and bolt ons with stock heads and intake on an LT1.
@carlosavalos4900

Where i live thats all we see is lt1 its rare to see ls1 but for us its cheaper to build and plus its much easier to work on, already doing a semi build on my formula v8 just have a cam with spring valve and rockers and headers with cai and im beating ls1 and 5.0

Maybe loose a little throttle response or you know, it might take a little longer to build boost with so much charge pipe to fill but it seems to work ok my guess is mainly to save space under the hood it seems to be popular with Nissan 350Z's the DOHC V6 in those does take up a lot of room and there's a few rear mount turbo kits that are common in them.

King Pleb didn't see any lag in this cars set up; did you hear him say it's good for 7's in the qtr. mile @180+💨💨💨

Ethan Knight it's about the same amount of pipe that most people run when they have an air to water intercooler, all turbos need time to spool. take a straw and blow through it. now cut that straw and blow through it. the amount of air is still the same.

I have spotted a Camaro with a rear-mount turbo in my home town (hi, gearhead on Pippin!) and nearly slipped a disk doing a double take. One day I'll see the owner outside and stop to bother.

My 97LT1 Z28 has 152K miles and the opti never failed and owned it since 98k miles. It only fails if your water pump goes then it pisses on the opti spark. It is the original one!

1995 to 1997 have vented optispark. 1993 and 1994 have sealed opti. 1993 Camaro LT1 also has batch fired injectors. 1994 to 1997 have sequential fired injectors. 1996 to 1997 also have OBD 2 which is nice. I have 2 1994 6 speed LT1 camaros. Summit racing has the 1993 and 1994 sealed optis for $169 dollars. It is the best opti I have ever owned and there is not a core charge. www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-850059/overview/
