Vanity Fair is the perfect medium to document the rise and fall of H&M's life. Thackery's novel is all about the social climb and all the shallow people involved. I hear her voice every time I hear you. Being an isolated island in the North Atlantic ("the rock" they call it) they retained the old English and Irish accents and phrases. Harry's court case ended in a standard out-of-court settlement, with NGN giving a little dramatic flourish to all the things they have acknowledged, and been held to account for years and years ago. Just to make him feel better - 'oh look, I got a public apology!". Sherbourne trying to look like he's accomplished anything, other than a large payday for himself by exploiting the desperate fool that is Harry for public profile and money. It was always all about the fact that William's case went ahead, and his didn't. Honestly, what an utter idiot.

On the other hand I don’t blame him for what she came out with in that interview - ”The top job would bring enormous limitations to him”. How very dare she. His mother was the first person to set example of tipping off the press, and then claimed to be a victim of being hounded by the press. And until now still plenty of Britons fell pity on her. Lets just be real, it was all pity party because she died too young and Charles wasn't there to show his side of his story along with receipts thanks to the old adage of no complaint, no explain. If only she lived that long to show the British public her true colors. No wonder late Duke of Edinburgh called her a trollop.😂. Wake up Harry, dont sniff glues too much 🤣

Coupled with the LA fires fiasco I think Harry thought it best to just take a settlement ("Judas coins" - I love that) and scuttle off. The legal bill must be astronomical. The only winners are the lawyers. Of course you are correct that the ONLY reason Harry and Meghan generate any interest is due to Harry being who he is. I have no sympathy for Netflix and Spotify - they didn't do their due diligence and there's only so many times the Harkles can return to the well of trashing the RF, crying racism, unconscious bias, Diana, mental health, silence is betrayal, blah, blah. Hello River, I love your new surroundings. As one who grew up in a flat with very high ceilings and had a rental place or two since, they are lovely to live in, there's all that feeling of air and space above you. We also had a fire place in our last flat, they refused us permission for any type of working fire, so we got a faux stove. The heat, seldom used came from a blow heater under the unit, but was very effective. It sat, with fake flames (there are better available) and gave us a cozy feeling. We were surprised by the number of people who were fooled by it, thinking we had a real stove. I've seen people do candle arrangements, huge round glass vases with either coloured glass stones or a string of lights or even both. I think it all depends on the room's aesthetic, some looked tacky, others looked good. The only real thing that matters, is how it makes you feel. When we finally moved aboard our barge on the Grand Union, we had no fireplace, but we had our working stove and it is cosy, as well as extremely effective, we don't bother using the central heating. We put our fake stove in our daughter's aft cabin, which does get very cold, the heater only needed a couple of minutes on to fully heat the cabin and the fake flames were on pretty much all the time, it made it so cozy. I love that you referred to the Harkles as "couple of berks". I so rarely hear original Cockney Rhyming Slang, when I do, it reminds me of my uncle Charlie, a genuine cockney who worked on the river his whole life and that's all he talked in, river cant and Cockney Rhyming Slang. It also reminds me of my late father, who called everyone a berk when teasing them, until I told him it's Cockney meaning, I wish I hadn't told him in the end. It still echoes around my mind, his brief chuckle followed by "you berk!" I have oft described the Mendacious Montecitans as a pair of berks, safe in the knowledge that most wouldn't know what I was really calling them, and those who did, probably agreed with me. They are indeed a couple of berks. I love your cushions from Camden market. It is a shame that the old antique and bric-a-brack stalls are long gone. The ones along Portobello market, going south towards Notting Hill Gate, on the right hand side have never failed to provide something unique. Some are happy to barter, others not, I'm sure you know them, they are shops rather than stalls. There is one, owned for decades by an Indian gentleman, Sikh if he's still there. It looks like a cheap, tacky so seeking cheap, tacky Indian goods, until you dare to walk into the abyss deep in the back, where the good stuff is. Several shops are worthy of perusal, I'm sure you know that already. My mother always had silk flowers, unless someone bought real ones for her, she got hers from a shop called Shaukat on Brompton Road, maybe Old Brompton Road, towards the Earls Court end. Their flowers were so realistic everyone was fooled, I ended up with some and loved them, but I got most of mine from amazon and they were cheap but realistic. I really do like your open space, cozy as your corner was, we all need room to grow and spread our wings from time to time. I have no doubt you will develop your preferred place to broadcast from, and that you will add and tweak it until you feel it's right. I am just very happy you are back. Forgive the length of this comment, I wanted to give you all the information in case you didnt know and found it useful. Until the next one dear River, take care. ☆

Hi River. About the droopy roses. It's air bubbles in the stem causing the droopiness. As soon as you see them starting to droop, cut an inch off the bottom of each stem and sit them in boiling water for 5 minutes and return to vase. The boiling water forces out the air bubbles and allows the water to reach the top of the stem. This works for me 95% of the time. I have revived many roses over the years using this method.

Thank you for speaking positively about silk flowers! I have a few arrangements (nothing overboard) but have received criticism for using them! I do buy myself cut roses from time to time as I love to put my nose in a rose when I am stressed, but they never last long. Perhaps too much sniffing!

@@vallee3140 It is lovely to be able to grow roses and I had a beautiful fragrant rose growing in my front garden. I would watch the buds form and look forward to them opening only to go out and find that someone had cut them and left me stems. It was so annoying that someone could be so selfish to take what I had worked and waited for without at least asking if they could take a rose. I found out that it was a neighbour up the street who liked my roses but couldn't bother growing her own in her own garden. I would happily give flowers from my garden if someone asked . I was glad that my neighbour moved away. I prefer flowers to be in the garden where insects and people can share their beauty.

River, to revive your wilted roses- cut about an inch off the stems. Then place them in the bathtub in about 3 to 4 inches of warm water (the blossoms too). Leave them for about 10 to 20 minutes, pull them out and gently shake the water off. Use 2 hands, one below the blossoms and one at the bottom of the stems. This will keep the blossoms from falling apart. Put them in a vase with clean cold water and they should be fine. When you buy or receive fresh flowers always cut the bottom of the stems off so they can pull water up to the blossoms. Same for Christmas trees, etc. When I cut the stems off I even cut the stem upwards about 1/2 inch to open the stem to the inside for better rehydration. I love your new furnishings.

River... roses seal their stems to retain the moisture in the stem. When you buy roses, you need to snip off at least 2-3cm at the bottom of each stem, dip in boiling water and immediately dip in ice water, then add a few drops of bleach to the vase before you fill it up. Only very rarely will you find that roses don't last for at least 2 weeks if it is a top grade cut flower, but even the garden roses last long this way. I have Iceberg bushes in my garden and they make beautiful table decorations because the stems are short and they smell divine. After they have flowered, I harvest the petals and have a petal bath with essential oils then I say thank you to the flowers, but these days I'm also learning how to propagate roses from the fat bottom of the flower. I cannot be without roses and lilies in my home, I buy every two weeks. Real girls have real flowers, my angel. Spoil yourself with orchids or something but never silk flowers.

The Vanity Fair article just drips with barely veiled sarcastic shade. Even tho so-called balancing positive aspects are really eviscerating the duo in subtle disguise. It reminds me of very much The Cut article on Markle , and the NY Times piece that totally exposed Elizabeth Holmes just before she reported to prison (deservedly- another fraud who really could have hurt people had she been left to continue) . I love it. Love your work, River.
@sandradavies78044 күн бұрын
Not altogether. The VF article still threw shade on the RF by talking about "Meg being bullied" and refusing to say "ALLEGED racism", and pointing out that Harry later said, to the absolute disbelief of his interviewer, "Meg never said, that, the British Press said that". The interviewer, when he'd hoisted his jaw back up, should have said "Well, when are you going to return that Kennedy award you got for fighting racism in the RF?"
@CuriousGirl24 күн бұрын
@@sandradavies7804 well, opinions may vary, but I read it differently...I felt there was deep sarcasm (not really the right word, I admit) in all the comments regarding the 'shoddy treatment' she received from the RF. Much was not sourced, and the duo were the only reporters that 'verified' this abuse. I didn't read it as shade toward the RF at all- rather the article author 'highlighting' the fact that the reports about the RF are unsubstantiated (without actually saying so). Very subtle, but there, to me. In any event, there is no question that the article is very damaging to our lovely couple. Your last sentence ---YES!!! What about that Harry????

Love your new set, River. About the fireplace, I once had an apartment with a fireplace of absolutely no use -- no electricity and no possibility of burning gas or wood. I stole an idea from a New York apartment decorated for Dustin Hoffman, featured in "Architectural Digest". I lined the interior with mirror panels and then put in a bunch of white/cream candles on various levels. It was really lovely with all of the candles lit. For total fire safety, one could even use those flickering flameless candles. So glad to see you back!
