Is there a reason for using a baitcaster for such small lures compared to a spinning outfit? Or is it just to show the castability?

@@StonerCreek74 there's many reasons. Bait casters are more efficient as you use less movements to complete a cast. For short distance casting, you will end up casting way more times end of the day than a spinning reel. Spinning reels also got issues. They create line twists for slack line fishing, some light lures also suffers from line twists on spinning for that reason as there's not enough tension as you reel in. This is not a problem with Baitcasting reels. Not to mention, BFS reels are generally faster and it's lighter.

@rawrfishing I usually have 5-6 baitcasters as well as 5-6 spinning setups with me when I hit the water as each one has different lures. With the spinning having soft plastics and lighter lures or drop shot rigs etc. While the baitcasters have cranks, spooks, spinner baits, etc. I just always go with the spinning combo if using lighter lures. Also, I use high-end lines and install it a certain way, so I really don't have any issues with line twists. I suppose each to their own and what works for them.

Yes but you do know there are baitcasting setups to cast lighter lures? Some folks simply don't know they exist. Unless I need the distance or I need the most smooth drag ever... I personally will never use a spinning setup.

The fish I go after would ruin that reel pretty quickly but it would be fun. A nice redfish might trash it. But it could be good for flounder. I fish in the saltwater with light tackle but not that light.

Sounds like you don't understand how to configure it. If u wanna get back into it, my casting tutorial Is different than any others on the internet. My lesson teach you how to explore a reel braking system. This process will allow you to find the sweet spot setting for your skill level and you can adjust from there as you get better.

Wrong.. there's so many issues with spinning reel. especially when throwing light lures and fishing slack line. it's a completely line twister causing wind knots and more. no bueno!

You can find reels like these for amazing short distance casting with precision, efficency and they are generally lighter than UL spinning reels!

although i support and love these videos my spinning rod with 20lb test can cast a 1gram spinner pretty fine so i dont get why he spends abunch of money on baitcasters when you can just use a tele rod & cast a good 100-140ft with a 1 gram & 2-4lb fluro or mono or maybe even 4-6lb braid or omni

Just use a spinner lol. Itll weigh a bit more but theyre objectively better for casting lighter weights. And they wont need to cost $350 like this reel

@rawrfishing yes really, line twists is a rookie mistake when not manually closing the bail and leaving slack.. there's a reason you had to buy a bait caster specifically made for finesse, it's because they're not good at it. The kicker is, that's now all you can use this reel for whereas a spinner could still be used in a much wider variety of weights.

While not closing the bail manually is a rookie mistake, there are fishing styles that would naturally create line twists even if you close the bail. Since you seems so smart... You would know exactly what I am talking about. But as you see, you can do what u can to reduce line twists, at the expense of inefficient fishing. I can cast more than anyone using a spinning setup for short distance casting. I have multiple setups, all setup for how I wanna fish! So it doesn't matter what variety range or not. Pretty much everything you said are subjective! But if you need distance, sure spinning reel is superior... But not for short distance light tackle fishing. If You wanna be versatile for mid range, fine... Have at it. U do u

That sounds like complete user error to me. if your skill level isn't up to par and you don't want to practice and get good... then sure.. go for the easy route. at the end of the day, everyone should enjoy fishing the way "THEY" want to. and baitcasting reels, no line twists. 25 dollar spinning reels are known to have line twists. especially when fishing slack line. i choose to use more skill required reels ANY day over line twisting machines
