A Texas farmer continues the fight to eradicate wild hogs and save his crops using an AR-15 and thermal night vision scope.
Wild boar, or feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of disease and injury to livestock.
Wild boar compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes. www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourf...
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year. Some of these methods include large round traps with remote trigger capability, hunting with dogs, and helicopter hog hunts.
Recently, with the increased availability and affordability of night vision and thermal optics, farmers, hunters and citizens alike have access to new weapons/tools to aid in the fight against feral hogs.

"Feral Pigs" not "Wild Pigs [sic]", dunces! No "wild pigs" in the Western Hemisphere; all are domestic or feral exotic species. And the javelina is not a pig however much it looks or behaves like one--different genus.

Wild pigs, feral pigs, wild hogs are all the same. People use slang all the time, these are not like pure bred Collies or something. I lived in Texas and visited a protected wildlife area and there are few if any pure Javelinas since Javelinas interbred with other hogs.

I used to live next to a nature preserve populated by wild boars. Of course they were safe when they stayed behind the fence but some didn't and were dispatched with a rifle. When outside the park they ripped up peoples backyard gardens and generally made a mess. A strong cage was constructed and baited. It worked on several occasions. I was amazed out how aggressive and powerful a grown male hog could be. Once in the cage they were disposed of with a .22 pistol shot to their cranium. Nothing sounds better than a pig squealing after taking on a rifle slug properly aimed as demonstrated in some of these hog massacre videos!

my uncle lives in NW OKLAHOMA and the hog problem is so bad even if you went out every night for a month and killed this many the population would recover in less than 6 months. it has come down to trapping, shooting and about any other legal means to eradicate them. most of the people that shoot them up there won't even eat them. they have harvested so many they are tired of the meat. but a few laid out make great coyote bait. and helps keep the mountain lions off of domestic stock.

That's the Thermal scope I've got, I like the fire & Ice setting myself. Swap it between AR-15, AR-10 and SBE with 3.5" 00B. Works well on All 3, but the Hogs hate it! Dear Anti-firearm nut jobs, this is just 1 reason for 30 + round Mags! Good hunting Guys!

Just busting your balls as long as it is cook to a safe temp, it is perfectly fine...been eating it all my life and don't know a single person who has had any issues whatsoever. Sows are great just about any way you cook them, and even the boars can be used for sausage and such. We generally mix it in with domesticated pork or other game in that case.

Would it not be more effective to have a silencer? That way you could pick them off one by one without them running around.

You must mean suppressor, no such thing as a silencer.. It certainly would benifit the shooter, the pigs not so much.

I thought I had seen the worst of the pig pest problem in the Jager trapping systems. This video clearly shows that the problem is a whole lot worse for farmers. Out of curiosity, would trapping these feral pigs before culling them not make more sense for a more effective cull rate?

we use some to make our own dog food. skin them a bit get a 55 gallon drum and get it full of boiling water. buy a butt load of cornmeal. after it boils down put the ingredients in a big baking pan put it in the oven and soon you'll have a feast for your dogs. you can use bones and all.

I keep coming back to these videos. Why? Because I enjoy them. As I learn more about guns and stuff for fun, and I'm trying to study and memorize hunting rules and regulations before I renew my license to hunt in the state of missouri, I see you guys are doing your best to hit them in the vitals for quick clean kills as opposed to treating them like the pests they are and shooting them anywhere you please. It's a good thing too, because i learn with every shot. Hopefully going to go hunt small game later this year with my pea shooter and a few cousins. Keep on doing what you do! I know the video is an old one, but I had to throw this out there. Good hunting!
