Great products and awesome video, thanks for posting it up. I have the Amp annealer but just can’t justify the Amp mate due to multiple calibers and the setup time just isn’t worth it. I could see it being worth it if you were processing 500 cases of the same caliber at once.

The AMP biggest shortfall is the 1 by 1 manual human method it was designed around. Would be better if they redesigned it with automation as the forethought, not as an after thought.

Your remark about watching the automated system brought back memories of P Chem lab. We automated a system and stood and watched it function. The prof looked at us and remarked, the greatest part of automating a system is being able to stand around doing nothing while watching it function. I can venture a guess that logic carries over to wiring a lathe and a mill in a one-man shop to the same breaker telling yourself, it's only me and I won't be turning a part and milling another at the same time!

I have an AMP Annealer and an AMP Press ... and love them both. Considered this gadget, but honestly, unless you're shooting a whole lot of the same thing, or maybe running a commercial reloading operation ... it just doesn't make sense for me. I typically anneal 20-to-40 cases at a time, maybe two or three calibers from range work or a competition ... and I can have 80-ish cases already annealed before the intricate setup for one caliber is complete. It's a wicked cool piece of gear, but the ROI and PITA just doesn't work for me and the volume of cases I anneal in any given month.

I can see the appeal of this, especially for comp shooters. When loading for a match, I'll usually load 120 rounds per match and if I can, I'll load for as many matches as I plan to shoot that year once I've found a good load. The price is what gets me. Almost 2k for the whole setup 😬

The amount of steps it takes to dial in the ampmate to do ammo I wonder if there is a better way to design this so that once you set up for a specific caliber you just swap the piece for the caliber conversion out. if it takes you 30 minutes to setup for each caliber is it worth the investment in time and money. If you only do one caliber like Erik Cortina then yeah it is worth it.

Salt bath annealing sadly does nothing to the hardness of the brass. The whole purpose of annealing. It is proven in multiple videos on youtube.

You have too much time and money on your hands. All that is fine but for around $200 one can do an induction annealer and actually touch the equipment they’re using. This may be fine for someone who is going to be going through thousands of cases on a weekly basis. I agree, another mousetrap.
@wannabe466810 ай бұрын
2500 bucks just to get started both machines and case feeder and all necessary parts to make it work. REDICULOUS!!
@christoph833311 ай бұрын
Very nice. Still missing the quintessential answer... what is the hardness of the brass .... new brass, fired brass and annealed brass. I test these values and can assure that a simple self build automated torch annealer does the same for less money, space and hassle. Test the hardness, otherwise this is a waste of time and money.
@lynnjustesen63911 ай бұрын
So if you don’t test its a waste of money? The AMP test the when you calibrate it. Can a torch anneal yes, i would argue the repeatable on multiple brass types and calibers is the key with the AMP. Consistency is the key in annealing the brass and the AMP ensures its the same time after time… IMHO
@christoph833311 ай бұрын
No doubt the amp is best there is but you rely on what a machine tells you. If you don't have numbers to compare it is worthless
@lynnjustesen63911 ай бұрын
@@christoph8333 so I assume you have tested your system against the AMP then? If not how do you know it’s worthless? Also building an open flame automated torch annealer seems like a hassle to some…
@christoph833311 ай бұрын
Noone questions the performance of the amp. All I am saying is, if you don't test the hardness of your brass before and after annealing you don't know if it did anything to your brass. I tested the hardness the hardness of new, fired and annealed myself and I know how to return to factory new brass hardness. Do what you like but without takeing measurements you are stepping in the dark.
@lynnjustesen63911 ай бұрын
@@christoph8333 I have tested hardness and in my experience the amp performs as advertised…. Additionally returning brass to a consistent place each time is the key… factory hardness is not necessarily the best IMHO
