If I dropped $160,000 on just the privilege of being able to buy all the parts, and then waited like a year for them all to come in and then spent another half a year building the damn thing. You better believe this things being passed down from generation to generation.

I elected every possible option from Ultima, and have the last LT5 in captivity being rebuilt by Katech right now (20k+ for motor, then 18k to completely rebuild it, validate the 1000+RWHP and break it in) @@speedychris8562 . Yes, it will be as special, but blue, and a 2023 model. Gotta match my gt4rs 🙂

Beautiful car. I am building an RCR GT-40. It’s going slow because I am too busy. Your car turned out great. It’s a track beast. Mine will be for local trips (day tripper) and tracking. More comfortable than a pure track car. Your power to weight is insane. I just used an LS3. 435HP versus your 1,200HP. How insane is that? It would be fun to run yours.

Usually these come with different parking positions, not sure if for this car though. I had this in a previous car, having it in the middle like a DTM race car was kinda the point of even getting one though back then. :)

@@thai6670 : How do you know it was sold. The eBay listing indicates the auction ended without the reserve having been met. Starting bid was 100K. So, do you know something others don't know? Beyond that one point of sold or not, this is one bad ass ride. Not really my type of ride, but I'd be willing to make an exception in this case. Maybe it's the color. Or the whine of the supercharger. Or the uniqueness. Or the speed potential. There's really only one thing preventing me from pulling the trigger on this beasty. I lack the cubic dollars. Oh well, just have to buy a few more lottery tickets.

This entire saga proved many things about car building and performance. But the biggest lesson of all of those is that no one ever gets out of such a car what they put into such a car, whether it’s money or time or any other factor. Huge project. Huge fun. Huge monetary loss. So it has to be worth it all to someone, and if it were me I’d keep it forever rather than take the $ hit. (And it wouldn’t be orange or any other Skittles color.) Good luck on the next build, whatever it is.

*3:15** When the car is overheating, you don't add fans, you add cores to the radiator. I've been able to hit 1700hp with a Griffin 3 Core, and a single fan.*

The problem was that there is a heat exchanger for the intercooler in front of the radiator, essentially blocking it. All those cores are great but if no air moves over them, then very little, if any heat will be exchanged. Bigger, more powerful fans allowed air to be pulled over both the heat exchanger and radiator, maximizing their efficiency.

We are in the early stages of chassis 161 build. I want to put in a 4k dash cam rear view mirror. Could you tell me which brand and model you bought? Are you happy with it?

I’d recommend the Wolfbox G900. Make sure to run all the wires before installing the side pods. I’m very happy with mine and it makes rear visibility a nonissue.

I used an 8” Lenovo android tablet and it is mounted with a strong magnet. It’s nice because it can be quickly removed, or turned to portrait/landscape. I wired a USB outlet under the dash to power it.

Can’t overlook the fact that the car was BUILT by the engineer(builder)/driver(owner). IMHO that’s the most impressive aspect of the car. There is a unique duality here. Driver comprehension of the mechanical dynamics and the feedback to engineers is the way it goes in the tuning process, and in this instance it’s one person, and what looks to be a team of support who possesses the right skill. Cars like this aren’t for everybody and rightly so. It’s striking and dramatic, sure. It’s meant to drive; valet histrionics an afterthought. Fortunate buyer will likely know their way around a Snap On box and the sense to know where the edge is; you f*k up and there is no save-your-ass-systems, you’re on your own. Thank you for sharing the journey and inspiring me to commit to a full build.

The Podium is better all around for sure, though the Tillett is surprisingly comfortable for being just a carbon shell. Can’t go wrong with either, really. The Podiums are just stupid expensive though.

@@ryanmccreery5162 i haven't been keeping up with the developments at SLC. At the time (2010) the Ultima suspension was better than the SLC (which was all Corvette). Eng/Trans choices were better with the SLC. But, that's not really an issue. We were able to stuff a nice transaxle and 700 ponies of Elan Ford in it, but never well-sorted. Based on what I know, i would probably still select an Ultima. I did like the 1-piece body of the SLC. Fewer alignment issues.
