I love how it just flys around without a care in the world

FAI Event F1D, if anyone is wondering. It’s the pinnacle of indoor aero modeling. The models have a 55cm wingspan, weigh 1.4g, and are powered by 400mg of rubber. In low ceiling sites fliers will use mechanisms that respond to reduction in motor torque to change the pitch of the prop in flight. This allows the models to fly over 25 minutes, using only that 400mg rubber band for power. If you’ve any interest in free flight models, I highly recommend you give F1D a look. If it looks like it’s a bit too much, F1L is an excellent event, as is Limited Penny Plane. FWIW-I would start with the limited Penny plane, then F1L, then F1D. You’ll probably stumble across some other indoor events along the way, and want to try them to. Have fun.

Thank you! I could swear I saw a video by Destin from Smarter Everyday nerding out on the tension curves of different rubber types etc but i cant find it anymore.. Does anyone know what to search for to find it?

how is it that the rubber unwinds so slowly? My old balsa rubber planes span the props so fast for about 3 seconds, lol. whats the trick here?

Not exactly "burning up the sky", but beautiful nonetheless. Relaxing to watch.

My father did this prior to joining the RAF WW2.

How can the rubber turn so slow? It’s amazing
@vinznearby43156 ай бұрын
My question: is that real time speed?

That was beautiful, but you do not give any details!? ... Was this designed and made by you?... Is it sold somewhere?... Would love to know more.. Thanks and best wishes.

It would be nice if you turn the music off and just a little commentary. It seems a lot of people, including me are curious about how all this works.

Wow.. The reduction "gear", how? The propellers are so slow
@LUCKYWE2 жыл бұрын
Hi I'm Korean. I guess that rubber has low torque and propeller is big. So propeller is slow. If this pland has small propeller, It would be fester.
@ignacioxxi Жыл бұрын
there is no reduction. Spins slowly 40 to 60 RPM

why is the rubber being used with a weighing scale when winding?
@SKILFULLIFE2 жыл бұрын
That is a counting machine for the number of turns of rubber, not a weighing scale.
@ignacioxxi Жыл бұрын
The scale is turned into a device to measure torque. On the top of winder there is a device to count turns (original winder has a counter, seems broken). You need to get a numbers of turns (duration) and torque (climbing).

How is it steered?
@TheSquirrelRCchannel3 жыл бұрын
It’s free flight so it’s steered by a temporary trim tab which is changed pre flight. Hope this helped you
