Yeah, I run. I’ve always run, but not like this; with a plan, bags of Tailwind, a beeping watch, and the looming deadline of a race that’s happily called the hardest 100k race in Australia. That means proper training, taking it a bit more seriously than some of my antics in the past, and likely means I can’t just eat bananas. That, and I’ve lined up for this bloody race twice and not finished (yes, there’s films on the way about that). This holiday has many themes, and one of them is running. Run you bastard.

G’day folks! Secret Screenings are back for 2024. beaumiles.com/screenings/ I’m touring brand new (half baked) films around the east coast of Australia. On the night, I’ll also be telling you a bunch of excellent stories that may or may not have anything to do with what you've just watched. Goodonyas!

0:27 What a happy baby!🤩 You look good with short hair and your wife fabulous. 👍 Always keep your hair shorter than your wife's or baby's hair. Please refrain from the Robinson Cruso style. 😱 One video made me so worried that you had spent ten years on a desert island and were now running for your life to find your way back to civilization. But now I see that everything is fine. 😅

Great work Beau. As a now 46 year old father of two, the comment about contributing nothing while out there resonates with me, but I also know myself well enough now to know I'm a miserable bastard if I'm stuck in the house. Getting out is never a bad idea, and as you say, even a mediocre run, ride or walk elevates the mood and makes me a better man, dad, husband, manager, employee and all the other roles we play...

Look up the Tabula Peutingeriana, it's like a proto map used for roman travelers, it's fun to compare it to modern maps because you can still have a vague idea of what the different places are meant to represent and some still have similar sounding location names

@@CuriousFrog will do. I also like old railroad maps, pre interstate. There is a place in tehachapi California where trains do loop going up or down the mountain pass to either gain speed or slow down. If the train is long enough it actually goes over or under itself in the loop. Pretty cool. The wife, kids, and I went out and watched it years ago.

“I contribute nothing”. I’ll bang on this gong too. You inspire adventure and creativity with your pursuits. We were made to tilt at windmills and do things for the sake of doing them. In a world where we seem to place a high priority on things that are instantly gratifying, it’s refreshing to watch someone from the “make your own damn fun” school of thought. There is nothing as satisfying as taking nothing and turning it into something.

“I contribute nothing” hit hard. This is something that I feel with every long run or training block commitment as a father of three young boys. You hit the nail on the head with the juxtaposition that is presented when we commit to doing something that doesn’t have a direct benefit to those that we care most about. Yes, taking care of ourselves allows us to take care of others but there certainly is diminishing returns when you ramp your mileage up beyond a certain point. Thanks for the entertaining video - I found it to be refreshingly light

What a beautiful video. I'm saving it for a rewatch. I'm an ultra runner married to a non runner. It's all about balance, which can be tough with such an extreme sport and hectic lives. For my husband and I, it's not hour for hour, 50/50, but I do make sure he gets HIS time. And, like many spouses so used to giving giving giving, he often says he's fine and doesn't need it. FYI guys, they're lying, to themselves and you. Make sure your partner gets the same sense of freedom, independence, or peaceful time every week that your running gives you, or the frustration and resentment WILL grow over time. If you can't manage it weekly, then give them a night away at a location of their choosing once a training block/race is over. Sometimes this crazy life, and this crazy hobby of ours, demands creativity. 😂

I feel that to be able to take advantage of the moment and do what makes you feel alive is paying tribute to the negativity in the world by giving it some meaning. I mean, If everything is going well in a moment, a person ought to be able to enjoy and experience it, otherwise what's the point of it all? A world full of war and suffering is also a world full of peace and gratitude. Live your current chapter to it's fullest in honor of those who can't. Well composed video as always mate!

I love your attitude towards family and life. You can have adventures while building a simple assumption of an adventurous and observant life with your family. My daughter is a new grad ecologist rapidly becoming over employed conducting bird sweeps and rare plant surveys. My son is going to be something geological, and something that enables sleeping out under the stars while taking mountain star photos. My wife and I are planning back-country bikepacking trips while the kids go off and have lives. We might be a big step below your level, but the attitude fits. Your kids are going to be absolute stars.

From the deep breath at 13:18 to 14:42 I felt very connected to you.. I too feel like the luckiest bloke I know, not even money wise, we don't have much but man do we feel wealthy. I have never commented on your videos, I've been watching for years, I don't really comment on anything. Anyway, I'm almost 28 and I feel the "rot" or as you say "niggles" start to set in, I have a little girl (shes 3 in December)I feel very similar to you in a way, you're the only thing I every re-watch, I don't even really re-watch movies. You just feel relatable, I don't even run. My motox bike is my non-contributor to my family, I can escape for a couple hours and my beautiful wife fully supports that, I live in Balranald (her home town) so its a good place for sneaking out bush from my driveway. But I always explore as you inspire me to do so, always take in the little things, always stop 5 minutes past the hour to make a cuppa tea or just have a look at whats around. Anyway man just want to say in a weird unnecessarily long-winded way that if you see this I just want you to know that I love you, I admire you and you keep be the best I can be. Also, I don't think you need to worry about the little things, film making, being the best you can be- just be you and that's the best you that you can be. Much love my brother

Oh my goodness do I ever love this! As a long time trail runner I've felt this but not had the words. You perfectly summed up trail running for me. Thanks mate!

I wish, so truly deeply, that I felt even as much as half of the enjoyment which Beau feels. I enjoy watching his videos, and especially this one because I enjoy seeing happy humans, enjoying their short lives on this planet. I hate my life and hope for death most days. Thank you for creating these videos, Mr. Miles. These create a pleasant albeit fleeting moment of escape from the hell that is living inside myself. Love you.

It’s comforting to hear you express the feeling of not contributing anything in the midst of everything that is going wrong, a feeling I often share. The way I get myself out of that is that running is an investment in myself that helps me to be a better husband, father, citizen. Hope that helps anyone that might be sharing what Beau and I apparently have in common.

I don't think you contribute nothing when running. Even without the camera. You're trying, really trying, and that makes the world a better place. We can feel it.

Australia is breathtakingly beautiful. Also I see Helen had a run in with Edward Scissorhands 😄 Thanks for the video, Beau 👍

I was once told, ‘you never regret a run’……..I’ve thought about this a LOT……and it’s has always, and always will be, true.

Hey Beau. I've been watching your videos for a few years now. Recently I was out for a few nights at a local park. I stopped at one of the picnic tables and someone had left half of a perfectly good clementine. I didn't think much of it at first but suddenly I remembered you. And I thought what would Beau do in this moment. So I picked up that clementine, and a few hours later in the heat of the day enjoyed it very much. Your videos have definitely left an impression on me, so thanks. Happy trails from the USA

Sounds strange, but I think watching your videos each month and listening outlook on life and taking in your quotes brings me back to earth and almost makes me appreciate the world more. Love your work Beau. See you at your show 🤙🏻
