Seth, it was a rare treat to meet you and the DGR crew in person in Zurich. Hauling your tired self and video gear to Europe days after Pikes Peak made me clear just how much dedication you put in as a citizen runner AND vlogger - every single day. We should not take your endeavour for granted. Thank you!

So sad that the runner lost their life. I believe they were Czech from the reports coming out. Condolences to their family. It is a stark reminder that races in the mountains can never be taken lightly. Although TDS is slightly shorter than UTMB it's a more technically difficult course.

My bucket list race would be Western States. I grew up around the sport since my own father was an ultra runner. He’s a 10x WS finisher and I have many fond memories as a child and adult crewing him. He’s now the cutoff coordinator for the race and I volunteer at one of the aid stations.

I LOVED this vlog!! Remember to stick to the right lane unless overtaking or people get a little peeved. Haha ;-) I really hope you can get out of the city and up, up, up into those mountains at least a little bit. It's epic up there. I love our mountains! Little tip: don't take the touristy Aiguille du Midi side up, but the Brevent side.. run up or take a gondola part way, regardless, it's astounding. Coffee up top at all these places. Hope to see you on Sunday if I can find someone to help with the kids!

I would love to do an epic mountain ultra (Leadville, Hardrock, Rabbit) but I don’t feel it would be wise to do so unless I move to a mountainous area (I live in Michigan at about 850ft above sea level) where I can get some altitude training in for a few months at least (likely won’t happen). I may consider doing something in the Appalachians since altitude is not near as much of a factor (though the trails are extremely rugged/rocky compared to the glaciated smooth trails here in Michigan), but we will see.

QD: Placed myself for UTMB next year by landing the Val d'Aran by UTMB some weeks ago. When it comes to the atmosphere, UTMB is magical and second to none. 10.000 trailrunners that participate in one of the races give Chamonix a brilliant vibe and the finish in the centre is something you never forget (assuming you don't finish in the middle of the night). However the huge number of runners on the single trails means also queing for at least the first 20K and there are definitely more beautiful races when it comes to nature. Therefor I'm a bit ambivalent when it comes to UTMB and though it's definitely on my bucketlist, I would not say it's nr.1 on my wishlist. I would like to do something remote like Hamperokken or something in Patagonia. I'm also considering the TOR330

My ancestors cames from France as they crossed the Atlantic in the 17th century to establish in North America (called Nouvelle France at that time). so definitely UTMB is in the bucket list…when money and time will allow. Other race would be ring of steel, in Scotland I think and Leadville 100 in US.

QoD: It is kind of masochistic, but the race that I'd love to do is the Badwater 135. There is something that draws me to running from the lowest point in the continental United States (Death Valley) to the Mount Whitney(8360 feet). With the extremes of temperature, it would be an awesome test of my endurance (135 miles) and my abilities to fight through massive the 130 degree days. Someone once said, "Be wary of what you ask for" but that would be an amazing test for me.

: It's gotta be the Western States 100 for me. I was introduced to it by Dean Karnazes in his book "Ultramarathon Man", and ever since I've thought about what it'd be like to compete in such race.

Dean’s a great guy-generous, gentle, intelligent, and humble. I loved his book “Road to Sparta” if you haven’t read that one as well. I got to hang with him for a week at place where I perform music and he was a guest fitness presenter, Rancho la Puerta in Tecate, not far from San Diego. He inspired me to do my first marathon, and inscribed “See you in Boston” when I asked him to sign the book. I did a marathon several months later and am bound for Boston in

You should be careful with the drone in Europe. You need permits, a license, so on. And it's different state to state.

2021 is the last year for the "old" UTMB, with a new Ironman partnered one coming in 2022. So enjoy this last bit of history!

No, UTMB is out of my league. I have too small mountains and don't want to invest so much time in running. But my goal is indeed a backyard where I want to finish with more than 24 hours (= 100 miles) and a 100 mile-race in Germany with not so much elevation as UTMB - there are some.
