I came here thinking, "what kind of foolish take is James going to have? " Then you said, "they threw everything at the wall just to see what sticks." And you're completely correct. The game would have been better without half of the mechanics.

One character KO's actually is okay for me. Just to give people who never got to know X Tekken some context... To this day, X Tekken remains to be the ONLY major fighting game from capcom that has made me question if they even tested ANYTHING. Sure maybe the direction that SF5 or even SF6 took may not be your cup of tea, but those games at least have a vision and went out to fulfill their goals. X Tekken on the other hand made you question if the game WAS DESIGNED TO BE PLAYED IN THE FIRST PLACE, and I'm of course refering to the biggest criminal in the game, the one thing that will forever bury that game into oblivion more so than the supid gems, the stupid pandora, the stupid chain mechanic that has literally no reason for existing, and even the stupid walk-up jabs plaguing the game on release. I'm talking about time-outs. When the game came out, everyone who was trying to enjoy their new game quickly found out that the rounds would always seem to end in a time out. This was mainly due to the fact that each player had two separate health bars, one for each of your characters, and the round ended obviously when one of your health bars dropped to zero, but since characters had individual health bars, you could potentially just tag out for the first time in the round and suddenly your health is back to 100 again. And btw did I mention that characters had gray health that was healing in the background too? It was like nobody thought anything through, and the thing that baffles me to this day is that developers did not seem to account these factors on the timer for each round, so people would simply never die. This was such a fucked up problem deep within the game's core design, cause honestly how the hell do you even fix this????? This is problematic down to the FREAKING CONCEPT dude. Well they did release a major patch but did they fix it? Eeeehhh, sort of. They made it better, but not nearly enough imo. I'm not gonna go through the whole list of changes, but go watch some games and you tell me how many rounds come suuuuper close to time even today. Also, the patch came a year later. The damage was already done, and even if you didn't think this core error in design was enough to curse this game, then one of the other 100 things did it for sure.

10:20 - GOING BACK I expected SFxT to just have Tekken characters play like they were from Street Fighter. I expect(ed) TxSF to just have Street Fighter characters play like they're in Tekken. Tekken 7 came and *almost* foreclosed this in all kinds of directions, except that Akuma and Geese were nearly impossible to balance in that game, and it would really be a different beast without those two in it. The Heat System and Drive System aren't an accident, they're a deliberate attempt to meet somewhere in the middle - and I honestly expect a 3-way Capcom/SNK/Tekken crossover game where you can play with Heat Mode, Drive Mode, and Max Mode.

With pandora, I think they wanted to create hype moments for epic comebacks and it's really there to push out the social marketability of the game "look at this crazy comeback" or if you're watching a tournament live it's a moment. And it's not there because it's good, it's because they wanted to push the eSports hype moment to moment. Same with gems, what's going to happen!? Moment to moment, just have something happen that could be exciting. But I think the Tekken cast had some really interesting movesets and I'd like them to return in some form in the future.

If by some miracle an SFxT2 was ever greenlit, they could EASILY make it the most epic game ever. That it really fizzled is a good indication of just how little appeal the game had in the end, not to mention it was out at the same time as SFIV and wasn’t different enough of a game to warrant that.

As much as I love the game, some adjustments to stage size and shortening of super length would have gone a long way towards making it more enjoyable for me. Hell maybe even making the screen itself a bit shorter so the max distance between characters is less? Either way the game is gr8 but it gets so slow at high level. Combos do not feel snappy or fun to perform or watch and supers are just such absurd pacebreakers even if they look nice. Gem system could have also been a bit more intuitive.

It was a night and day difference compared to Tekken Tag 2 at the time. I flat out ignored the Gem and Pandora system. If I could say one thing that was a hit, it's the trailers for SfXT. I didn't bother looking at gameplay, the story set up from the trailers were all I was interested in. But the story and atmosphere ended up being nothing like the trailers suggested. Even then, SFxT isn't something I'd go out my way to trash talk every chance. That would go to BBCTag. From the dumbed down mechanics and characters, reused assets as DLC and the practices. I'd never pass up a opportunity to trash talk that game.

Again, love your stuff. Hope this didn’t sound combative. 😅
@UltraChenTV5 ай бұрын
Well, obviously they want it to still be a fighting game. I always tell them I’d turn it into a tag fighter and then ask if they would be okay if it didn’t play like an older Rival Schools. That’s all I meant they’re saying. And having a vision of what your game should be would prevent random Chain Combo mechanics. Of course you have to worry about the details, but having a vision means the details fit a goal or a theme. The thing is for SFxT, I couldn’t tell you what they were going for with this game. Was it meant to be more offensive or neutral heavy? Was it trying to make Tekken characters feel like Street Fighter characters? Did they intend to just make Tekken characters feel like Street Fighter characters? Etc. As I said about SFxT, just feels like they just did whatever because they really weren’t sure what they were going for at all.
@shinfitz5 ай бұрын
@@UltraChenTV I’ll just gloss over the implication of Power Stone and Smash not being a fighting game. Different debate for a different day. 😝 But who’s to say SF vs T didn’t have a vision? Perhaps it was to create something different from Street Fighter and different from Tekken (and clearly micro transactions 😝). Street Fighter making a game with Tekken is a once in a lifetime kind of event. Perhaps Pandora was meant to be something you’d see once in every thousand, or ten thousand games. But when it happened and it worked it would be really exciting. Kind of like the idea of SF vs T happening. I guess I’m confused about what you mean about not “worrying about the details” and that the “artistic vision is most important” then saying the vision would prevent a detail like chain combos. You going more in depth about artistic vision vs game mechanics would be a video from you I’d love to watch. Thanks for reading and replying, and keep up the great work.
@UltraChenTV5 ай бұрын
Oh Power Stone and Smash are Fighting Games. I just mean the more traditional style as opposed to Playform and Arena style Fighting Games. So there’s not debate there at all. Hell, I called the original Virtual On a Fighting Game. What I mean by artistic vision is trying to make a game feel a certain way. Everything about SFxT conflicts with itself. Like if you try to describe the game as it is, most will tell you it’s a very Neutral-based Fighting Game. But looking at everything in the game, it was clearly intended NOT to be fundamentals heavy. But they went that way because that was the easier way to try and salvage the timeout mess of year 1. I guess I can’t really explain it, but the game just “feels” off. Not in terms of gameplay directly, but in terms of what the hell the game is supposed to be. And I can tell you with some confidence that SFxT had no vision. Outside of it being a way to try and make people spend money on Gems and other such things. You’ll just have to trust me on that one. Haha.

SfxT was perhaps not ideal for tournament. But in terms of gameplay and accessibility, it was a good product. Good, not great. Is the game fun? That's the only question that matters. To me, it is. And a lot of that has to do with its accessibility. Chains are easy and intuitive for about 70% of the cast, as is the partner switch mechanic. VS style super inputs are very much appreciated. I actually consider this one the more dpad friendly fighting games out there. Super easy input gem makes the game playable in the laggy online environment. The cast in games like TvC are MvC protoypes and you have no incentive to pick the actual Tatsunoko franchise over Capcom, or Vice verse. But in SfxT, I could not just pick up someone like Kazuya and play him like Ryu. Or even chain characters like Guy. If you never played Tekken like me, you actually have to learn some mechanics that's unique to their franchise. That kinda does give the game an identity that I don't find in most Capcom fighting games. The boost gems are essentially TOP meter from Garou or N groove from CvS2. It's nowhere near as broken as X factor in UMvC3, which is genuinely a bad, BAD, broken game. Some assist gems do provide an edge, but they often come with a penalty. Tournies will ban them anyways. I think everyone should just play the game for themselves before being influenced by the crowd. To me, all the Evo hype can't mask the fact that MvC3 was trash. This game was universally hated, but I personally find it enjoyable.

Some of the SFxT characters from Tekken were awesome. But that's why it makes me mad. They Street Fighter-ized the Tekken characters which is cool... let Tekken X Street Fighter Tekken-ize the Street Fighter characters. But they tried too hard to make Tekken characters an amalgamation of both systems and it didn't gel. Or do the CvS thing and craete Grooves. Make a Tekken Groove and a Street Fighter Groove so we have the best of both worlds. And not even necessarily make it a Groove, make it more like Bust and Slash where you have two different versions of every character... different moves, different chains, etc. I think that would have been far more interesting.

MvCI was a game that never got a proper chance. It's budget was obviously super low and Marvel was way too hard to work it it seems like. Gameplay-wise, the game was actually really well conceived: the active tagging was fresh and really allowed for a lot of craziness. But obviously, package-wise, they had nothing. Menus were ugly. Character models were ugly. Roster was questionable. Etc. Had it had a budget, it might have been a much stronger product. Whereas it appears that SFxT had ALL the budget, but the game turned out a mess. Perhaps having the budget to do whatever they wanted might have been the reason the game came out as bad as it did. Regardless, it's not a contest between SFxT and MvCI. So I'm not even sure why bring up MvCI in the first place. It can be true that both games suck and that both games are bad. To me, SFxT was just an extremely misguided and failed project for reasons that COULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED. Whereas MvCI was an extremely unpolished game that never stood a chance.

Nothing to do with this episode. I think there should be a limit to the amount of casual matches. You play without playing ranked. Not sure what the number should be, but I feel like the people who grind casual just feel good beating up on people lesser than them are unspoken villain of the fgc. I feel like something along the lines of every hundred matches you playing casual. You have to play 10 matches in ranked. Because nothing is worse than trying to learn a new character and casual, and fighting someone who has hundreds of hours and casual, but never played ranked. This is going to be my diatribe, I'm going to spam this on every video FCC wise I can. If you believe my plate is true. Reiterate this point, I don't want thumbs up, I don't want replies.

There is definitely something to be said about that. But I though casual matches do try at least a LITTLE to match you with people of your strength, right? To be honest, I never use it. Hahaha. I'm the opposite. Outside of Battle Hub, which I love. But more encouragement to play Ranked is a good thing overall, and games haven't figured out how to do that yet because, as I've said many times, RANKED IS NOT FUN. It's a grind, and not everyone wants to do that grind. So there has to be some other gamification of Ranked, another way to spur the endorphins for the player BESIDES just winning. And, again, see my Group Ranked idea.

I'd like her Sweep to be safer like it was in the beta (nerfed from -8 to -10), or maybe even better. She currently cannot punish standing characters much at all and that's such a HUGE component of SF6 (see crMK into Drive Rush cancel). Only getting Swept instead of DYING wouldn't make Kim too strong. Give her a wall jump or some alternate way out of the corner. Make her Teleport actually useful. Don't do ALL of these things, but one or two would go a long way. But those are all ideas that COULD work via some combination of only a couple of those. The goal isn't to make her overpowered. The goal is to make it so that her lack of OD DP and lack of damage (she starts at 90%) warranted. As long as a character like Blanka exists that does everything Kim does but BETTER *AND* he has an OD DP and no damage nerf, it doesn't make sense leaving Kim as she is.

@@UltraChenTV I never realized the similarities between blanka and Kim. He even gets a object to toss out for setups too. Great comparison. She also can leap onto an opponent but not bounce off a wall? Yeah you're right about the wall bounce for sure. I was thinking maybe Bison(from what I've heard) or Akuma would be better alternatives for her. I've been maining her since S2 started. Gotten her to master but been thinking about dropping her even though I like her because of how much easier half the cast(at least) has it. Thanks alot. For the video and your insight on Kim. I learned some invaluable stuff here.

I always found that sf4 to be very "uncohesive" as well. The focus system is a complete mess if you try to actually explain the rules. They just gradually improved the game over time.

Street fighter 2 HD Remix. A fan made remix of super turbo that was hyped a lot and got an official release. It had some questionable design and battle changes so the good parts of it like having rollback were overlooked. Then SF4 came out and the game died lol

Is it CVS2 that you don't like James? Cause I can't stand that game. I cannot STAND how that game is ALWAYS stanned for by people who have never TOUCHED the awful high level play of that game. I also agree that SFxT was bad.

It's not CvS2. I loved that game a lot, though I stopped playing when Roll Canceling was introduced because I thought it ruined the game. But it actually made it better in the long run. I just never wanted to learn it and I played C-Groove so I had to. Otherwise I had to switch to K-Groove or something.

Being cohesive is exactly the reason why SF6 is a bad game also, almost all the elements in the game contradict each other. They made World Tour as an MK Deception Konquest bootleg so it can be used as a tutorial for casuals but then not only you don't actually train with the masters but also the CPU just spams moves over and over. And then it got also a legit tutorial mode in Fighting Ground to help casuals even more to get good, but then they add the placement qualifying matches for Ranked which really ruined the skill gap, and when they tried to fix it with the MR system, all they did was to make all the ranks other than Master and Legend to be meaningless because it's the MR that gives you a more accurate skill level of the player and it only starts at Master rank. There are actually even more contradictory problems in SF6 but that should be enough to showcase this overall problem, SF6 is just one huge contradiction case.

What I hate about the game is that it is not available to be legally bought and buying physical copies is pointless because I don’t have previous gen consoles and my pc does not run discs
