[ULTRAKILL] Hear! The Siren Song Call of Death // "Flowers for Death Machines" Piano Arrangement

Some parts of the original composition reminded me of waltz - a reminiscence of peaceful days, accompanied by howling sirens and militaristic triplet rhythms. Despite the whole thing (not including the intro) being written in a duple meter (6/8) I think certain parts do capture that feeling. A melancholic waltz being played by someone who wants to find rest in the sound of melodies long forgotten.

The hidden Gutterman diary in 7-2 reminded me of a quote about the film The Iron Giant, directed Brad Bird, whose original pitch for the film was this: What if a gun had a soul, but didn't want to be a gun? Throughout the game it has been hinted that the machines are truly self-aware beings. From V2's mannerisms before dueling with V1, to the terminal entry of the Mindflayer implying they take pride in their physical appearance, and the P-2 terminal implying that even the terminals themselves may experience boredom or excitement. The Gutterman's diary outright confirms this, by showing that it felt pity towards the tortured victim trapped inside its coffin, being drained of their blood for eternity to power the war machine, with it eventually resorting to ending the person's life out of sadness. The machines are not only alive, but they are also capable of complex emotions and deep thought on the same level as humans. This brings me to what I find most interesting of all: the Earthmovers. Their terminal entry describes how after the Final War had concluded, thick ash from the debris of crumbling cities blotted out the sky, causing the Earthmovers to slowly die off one-by-one as they could no longer generate electricity from the sunlight. This begs the question: if the machines we see in the game are coming from the surface to invade Hell, why are the Earthmovers down there with them, if they should be dead? It's because they are. I've seen people speculate on this, theorising that the Earthmovers were brought down to Hell while they were still alive for its entertainment, but to me the real answer is quite clear: The Earthmovers are as alive as you and I, and for the horrific destruction they brought about during the Final War, they were condemned to Hell and judged for their sins after death. They are husks, just like the countless human fodder we slay throughout the game. They were seen as acts of violence against God himself, and so they were sent to the White Desert, a.k.a. violence against God, Art and Nature. This is why they are held down by the roots of the Trees of Suicide, and continuously fire at one another for eternity, undamaged due to the shields that protect them - this is their eternal damnation, fighting forever amongst themselves just like the other human sinners in Violence. This may be what Minos describes as he mentions the crimes committed by the machines against mankind, as he himself was likely given the burden of judging the machines as they were condemned to Hell. And if the Earthmovers were seen as crimes against God himself, perhaps the very idea of these monstrosities capable of such devastation is what made him leave for good. Sorry if all that rambling wasn't well written or interesting, or if you've seen many people say it before.

If ultrakill had an epilogue, heck, a cutscene where you just go back through hell from the very bottom to the top, and a walking simulator, but this time everything is painted with blood, and the corpses you left on your path laying down, I can totally imagine that playing, showing how you purged everything that crossed your sight. No more war, no more death, no more blood to be spilled, only rotting remains. Every being who before walked through hell was free of their suffering called life. Now there are no more sirens playing the song of death.

Beautiful. Heart-wrenching in its oh so fragile peacefulness. This piece is the rain which falls upon the carnage, slowly but surely cleansing the remains, 'till even the mere memory is dead (and this arrangement being, too, the ode which plays for the world -- a memory, the very last). Such a melancholic and haunting arrangement compared to the battle frenzied and pulse pounding original. This adds a note of silent and haunting true horror of the Final War. Like Humanity and even the machine slowly realizing they're fighting a pointless war. Watching their brethren, man or machine, die cruel deaths and the worse part, they died a meaningless death. Worse only to those that still live, some suffer crueler fates than death.
