I love ultrakill. It reminds me of first learning to do rocket jumping and trimping in tf2. It’s hard to get the hang of and takes some amount of time and effort to get down. But once you get it, it’s some of the most fun you’ll ever have and it sticks with you every time you decide to replay it.

I love both games so much! As you say, although both games have many similar gameplay mechanics, the things they set out to do are so different. Interestingly enough, although I personally enjoy the ULTRAKILL gameplay loop more than DOOM Eternal, it was due to my time playing ULTRAKILL that I honed many skills that in turn made me a lot better at Eternal and therefore enjoy it so much more. Playing ULTRAKILL is legitimately the driving factor that has helped me with completing all of the Master Levels... except for Taras Nabad's Ultra Nightmare, because I seem to be cursed to never complete that one hahaha

what I love about ultrakill is like a protest from staples and bounds that gaming industry made and are abusing, it's like a island of freedom where nothing is holding back a player. Nothing slows you down, nothing stops you from shooting, you are not obligated to fight in certain way or be near something to be effective and nothing stops you from abusing a weapon if you want (except exploding maurice which is imo a bad decision and it annoys the hell out of me). You are so free to the point that you want to improve, be creative, experiment

In highest difficulties you are not obligated to kill enemies in only one possible weapon or synergy, only thing you are obligated is to remember that maurice is explosion proof. What do you mean by “playing correctly” anyway? Killing everyone with piercer revolver? Fist only or what? Plus not taking the easier difficulties or auto aim. Nothing is holding you back in Ultrakill, even dumb unintended ways of playing are possible in violent like mayo% or fist only, you are not obligated to play the “right way”

Little bit off topic, but I want to give a recommendation: If you feel like you've stuck and can't progress - try P-ranking older levels. I know this sounds like a big challenge but because of ultrakill's mechanics and pacing it's really fun. This helped me personally in my first playthrough: I've been stuck on Gabriel, gave up and started P-ranking. After this I came back and beat his ass first try

Hey Midnight I do have a few tips. For P-Ranking Gabriel you might want to slow down. He’s more reaction based than anything. Kinda like the Marauder. Obviously you may know about the Ultra-Rochoshot where you throw two coins in the air then one behind target then walk backwards and throw your last coin but quickly shoot the coin behind the target with your railcannon just before throwing the last coin.

Tip for Gabriel, he is much faster than you so he can catch up if you try to dash backwards, but he is horribly inaccurate. Just moving sideways is a good way to dodge his attacks, sliding is the best bc it doesn’t consume stamina. And *never* let him get behind you. Also when he taunts you he won’t attack for a second, giving you a chance to unload on him and regain some health

I think it's hard to compare the two games as they appeal to 2 similar but different playstyles. Doom I think appeals to more tactically minded people, you have to know the gun combos to kill particular demons and properly manage health/ armor if you want to succeed. Ultrakill is much more fast and loose, appealing to players who like improvising on the spot and making health and ammo simple to let the player focus more on improvising at a case by case basis.

heres a tip for beating gabriel 1. try to have constant erratic movements, this will make him miss most of his attacks 2. nailguns and magnets, they both go great together and a fast way to drain hp from him, you can also use the green railcannon 3, shotgun swapping, it deals a ton of damage un short and quick bursts and great for his fight 4. stacking coins and the railgun, stacking 4 coins can deal alot of damage especially combined with the electric railcannon which is a fast way to drain his health and finally, 5. ALWAYS try to parry his attacks or projectile boost your shotgun thank you for reading.

Honestly, these two games being so similar yet so diferent really goes to show how a couple little mechanics can completely change the feel, gunplay, and even aesthetic of a game. In one you are a ruthless killing machine; No forces, heaven or hell, not even GOD can stop you. In the other, you are an unstopable force, enemies who in theory should be fighting eachother to the death stop dead on their tracks to go after you. YOU are the big danger, not the immesurable forces of hell, heaven, or banks trying to wonder how you're producing this many coins.

Doom eternal and ultrakill, despite their surface similarities have always felt very different to me. Doom is more of a fast paced puzzle game with some resource management mixed in, whereas ultrakill really nails that devil may cry emphasis on style and chaos. Both are awesome in their own right

Funny thing, I didnt like the excessive weapon swap in Doom Eternal, but because Ultrakill lets you chain weapon utilities in such a good way, I now love to do it. But you are right, Ultrakill is damn sweaty game and its almost impossible for non fps veterans. In terms of being "better", I would say Doom is the "better" game, it has like all of its aspects great vs Ultrakill having gameplay a tad bit stronger, but the graphics and sound sfx might be a minus for some.

If you are struggling with Gabriel so much, then there is no way you will be able to beat Minos Prime. That is if you can reach Minos Prime since he is located in the prime level. And to access the prime level, you have to get the P Rank on all prologue levels and act 1 levels.

to be honest, if were talking who has the better game, its mostly varied of what people like to play, in doom eternal you're a powerhouse who can kill a fucking god, while in ultrakill the only moments when you feel like a powerhouse, is when you do something very stylish. How to kill Gabe: gabe has 3 attacks patters sword, spear and axe. In order to kill him you basically need to do a ballet dance with him. Sword: This stance has a higer chance to triggered when he swaps wepons and v1 is close to him. The attack consists of 2 slashes that arnt too hard to evade and a throw witch can be parried. Axe: He trows a heat seeking axe at you wich can also be parried as far as im aware. I normally just dodge it. Spear: Now the secret to killing Gabe.. For this attack he teleports above you and does a ground pound attack. This attack is the most bullshit attack in the entire game, it CANNOT be avoided, but Hakita got you covered. When hitting the dash key you are invulnerable for about a quter of a second, so if you here him teleport wait about half a second (quater of a second when he is enraged), then dash. He will then throw the spear at you, it can be parried. I would reccomend using the green ralcannon (people shit on it but it is very helpful against bosses), Green and blue nail guns, green shotgun (blow yourself up if he corners you), and alt green pistol for the damage buff.

I find it quite interesting the duality of man between midnighthalo and underthemayo. Midnight got roasted for his gameplay, took that and learned to improve at the game. Mayo got roasted for his gameplay, doubled down and got shunned by the Ultrakill community for being a bad game reviewer. I do not dislike Mayo, but he is pretty turbulent and could have handled that backlash better.

tbh, I'd strongly have to say that Ultrakill is better, Don't get me wrong, I LOVE doom: Eternal, but I just personally prefer ultrakill, and I think that boils down to two things: Gameplay, And replay value, In Doom Eternal, I rarely came back to that game after beating the campaign, since the only real content after that is the EXTREMELY dull Battle-mode, and then the Ancient gods, with Ultrakill, I still often come back to the prelude chapter just because of how fun the first chapter is, and then pair that with both games gameplay styles, I just find ultrakill to be the better game Overall

I feel like DOOM Eternal is objectively the better game, it has a much netter skill curve, enemy variety is great (I am sure UK will catch up when it is fully released) and there are lots more elements which make it more strategic like ammo, shield and health. However, UK is more fun for me. The way weapons chain into each is so satisfying, and the game is just so addicting.

The games only share shooting at incarnations of evil. Ultrakill has less weapons, but more weapon variation. Combos, style and no hitting is much more important in ultrakill than in doom. I haven't played doom eternal, only 2016, so i cant really speak on the newest game. But from what i remember, doom is more glory kills, rescource managment and such. More weapons in general too.
