Looks like a great tent and well filmed. I would have liked to see the bathtub floor a bit deeper and an ability to tune the ventilation on the inner door. Cheers.

I was a bit disappointed with the bathtub to he honest - I'm used to the big hilleberg bathtub, so it was a bit of a shock to see such a shallow one. I have yet to use the tent in heavy rain, so need to see how that works out.

Hi mate great vid, I'm looking to buy in sil poly, just not keen on the care needed with DCF, I'm thinking of getting a double door entry, as I rwally like the options in my other on man tents, how do you see that working? Cheers
@CraggyGoesOutdoors-UKАй бұрын
Hi mate - do you mean a door on each side of the tent?
@dannyknight8082Ай бұрын
Yes mate, Marc said it's possible. Just potential water ingress to consider with the placement of the inner. I'd be going for the standard 80cms inner so could mess around with the placement. He did confirm it would be in the drip line though at its furthest back position. So 10cms away from the door. Although must be similar for your double width inner. If any of that makes sense 😂

Interesting. I'll be honest and say I'm not sure I'd see the value in 2 entrances for a 1 man tent like the Saor. It's an interesting idea though. There would possible be a slight structural weakness in it too (though not much) as you're missing out on the back wall "pull out" with the guy... But it would be minimal and the extra venting options would be quite useful. Not that I've experienced much condensation so far. I'd be interested to see it if you do decide to go ahead though.

@@CraggyGoesOutdoors-UK Thanks, I have decided to go for the one door for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. Just deciding on whether to go for a storm flap over the zip or not. 🤔
@CraggyGoesOutdoors-UKАй бұрын
I haven't yet used my tent in the rain, but I know those waterproof zips are the first point of leaking on jackets... That being said, the water isn't likely to piss through - rather roll in slowly. Probably minimum weight to add a flap so it's probably can't hurt (except for being slightly more awkward to open and close.) What tin would say, is ask if he would be interested in swapping all the toggles for magnetic fasteners. Biggest point of issue for these tents is it being a pain in the arse to fasten and unfasten the door toggles - magnetic is defiantly easier and the way most tents are going now.

Nice review, thanks for sharing! Looking at this tent and the Hilleberg Niak.
@CraggyGoesOutdoors-UK2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Ive owned a lot of hillebergs - including the niak. I really liked the niak - but ultimately it was far too heavy to justify. Despite what the specs say - it ends up being just shy of 2kg (can't remember the exact weight) - but for a 3 season tent that felt too much... Especially whne you can get a 4 season Soar with 10mm poles for good few kg less. Hilleberg overall quality is superior though... You can tell the saor is made by a cottage company, despite it being well made.

Maybe I did something wrong, but after I removed the elastic from the inner tent loops and tried hanging them directly on the hooks, the additional tension may have tore a hole in the inner near where one of the loops is attached. Have you had any issues with using the inner tent like this? In any case, guying out the poles tightened the inner tent sag sufficiently for me.
@CraggyGoesOutdoors-UK2 ай бұрын
Hi mate, the sag in mine was ridiculous to be honest... The elastic is definately there to take some shock and tension away from the connect points, so removing them isn't ideal at all. The way I have mine configure only 4 have no elastic and the rest do. I haven't been out in bad winds yet though, so I can't be sure it won't cause a tear. Glad to hear yours is OK while guyed out... Have a chat with Marc and see what he can do to repair or replace the inner.

Marc seems like a very stand-up guy so I reckon he'd offer to repair it, he certainly was forthcoming with my modification requests. Although seeing as I live in Norway it'd be a long way to ship the tent just to repair a small hole, so I will probably see if I can find someone local to do it first. With that said, perhaps he could do a couple of other modifications if I were to ship it. The bathtub floor of my inner is also a bit saggy, I'd like for it to stay more tight and upright. And the only thing I don't really like with the tent is that I can't sit upright inside and look outwards, as the top part of the flysheet (above the door) blocks my view. It'd be great if this could be pulled or otherwise moved out of the way somehow, although maybe a bit late to modify this after the tent has been produced. Anyway, all in all, a great tent that I'm sure we will both enjoy for many trips!

I believe That the inners are £100 each - so if you need a few mods doing it may be worth seeing if he can make another at a discounted price to compensate for the damaged original. Saves 2 lots of shipping and being unable to use your tent while the repair is being done. I was tempted to ask him to make a slightly different inner for me Thst had a deeper bathtub and addressed the saggyness... But the inner is now usable after my mods. There is another mod that I did (but isn't on this video) which is I added a toggle in the middle of the back wall that attaches to the outer this keeps the inner bathtub more taught. However, I used sticky dcf to do it and it peeled off... I have another whixk I'm going to attach and then sew... I will do a follow up video I think showing this mod. If you want to see the mod, then my Y Garn video has that mod in place (you can see the black triangle on the back wall)

One wonders where one puts snow encrusted boots and gaiters overnight in a tent with no porch. Similarly, how is heavy rain prevented from wetting the inside? Surely a true four season tent would address such issues?
@CraggyGoesOutdoors-UK14 күн бұрын
Not sure about your concern with heavy rain wetting the inside - there's nothing in this design that differs from the likes of the hilleberg unna. Sure you might get a little bit of rain come in as you enter, but it's going to be major. (plus i would consider a wild camp to be at an altitude where it would be snow, not rain) A lot of people don't really see the need for a vestibule - it's a personal choice with pros and cons. As for snowy boots - most 4 season lightweight tents don't have vestibules (samaya, advance pro 2) - and ive never found I needed one (hence asking for the vestibule to be removed from. My saor). I just put my boots in a bag and keep them inside.

Thank you for remembering and saying kilograms. Most English say kilo, why i don't know.
