Nice review Ben. Been looking at the Inov 8 lately. Looking at the G345 & G400... Getting sick of wearing heavy boots in the summer. You still wear Inov8? Some good points about durability. Seen other reviews about them getting wet easily and taking ages to dry out. Especially if their gore texed lined. 🤔

Hey Kev! I haven’t had any Inov8 bits for a while actually. I do like the grip on their stuff and the graphene is pretty interesting. Megs had a pair not too long ago and it was the same story the sole lasting amazingly and the upper not lasting very well. I’d say all Gortex boots take ages to dry, but that’s one of the sacrifices for hopefully 🤞🏼 having dry feet. I’d highly recommend the la Sportiva ultra raptor boots, they are all I use for lightweight (non stiff) boots most of the time. I’d honestly say their grip and comfort is the best around. They do also suffer a bit with lasting annoyingly. I always find the waterproofing in lightweight boots is the first thing to go. It’d be good to see you and Robin again btw!

Great review. And also, great view! Where is it? I recognize it but can't remember. Anyway, I am slightly less confident on my feet these days. Can you recommend a good hiking boot sole for wet rocks? I have tried several but nothing really grips as I would like. Many thanks!

Thank so much for watching, glad it was useful! It’s looking down onto Loch Eck from the hills above Loch Goil ☺️ wet rock is a tricky one, would recommend something designed for Via Ferrata as they tend to have the best grip on rockier surfaces. Otherwise, Vibram Megagrip, especially when it’s new, has worked incredibly for us. They don’t work perfectly as it’s a difficult surface to stick too. Let us know what you end up going with and if it works out!

Interesting stuff, ive been looking at inov8 myself. Currently rocking the speedgoat 3. I had the same issue with the uppers on altra timps on my thru of the pct. 200 miles and the uppers were trashed. Looking forward to seeing your review on the speed goat 4 and if it matches the 3's. Keep on keeping on.

Cheers for watching! I bet you chewed through some shoes on the PCT? Inov8 have some really good features, and love the aggressive treads on some of their models for off trail and generally crappy ground. So far the Hoka’s are my new go to, the cushioning really makes a huge difference comfort wise, and to the knees on long descents. So wet here on the highlands that I have Gortex socks on 80% of the time 🤣 Hope to see you in the comments again!

always love a good shoe review! shame about the uppers.. and waterproof trails hoes are just not worth the hassle. the speedgoats are great although pretty narrow (the US have a wide option we don't seem to get) but the tread disappears way too fast. i've had a number of inov8 trail shoes and they do seem to suffer from upper wear.. i'm currently trying the terraultra 260's (grip) purely to test the robustness of the upper before i shell out for the graphene variant.. what's the point of a sole that can do 7-800 miles if the upper is shredded?! thanks for a great review and look forward to seeing more of your adventures

I am partial to a show review myself 😊. It really is a shame about the uppers, as I like the boots overall. It’s frustrating with waterproof options, as I much prefer the breathability and quick drying of non waterproof options. However sometimes I don’t fancy wet feet instantly on ever hike, and in Scotland it isn’t exactly dry ground 😂. I have found Gortex socks to be my best and most versatile option. I do still fancy something decent for and waterproof for early morning runs/walks so I don’t always have to don Gortex socks for short outings. So far I like the speedgoats, particularly on trails and long descents where you really feel the benefit of the cushioning. You do get a fair bit of ankle roll in them on tussocky hillside or more technical ground it seems. I did actually get the wide version, they seem to now to available in the U.K. and the extra room is great 👍 Be interested to see what you make of those terra ultras. Take care and appreciate you commenting 😊

How would you gauge the sizing ? I go half a size up in my Salomon traoil shoes is this the same with inov-8 ?
@OutdoorIntrigue3 жыл бұрын
Hey, the problem with Inov8 is they rate their different shoe models differently for fit. So it will depend on which model you go for. With the inov8 model in the review I would say they are basically true to size though.

I've never got on with traditional boots. Since I found the vivobarefoot tracker fg I'll never buy anything different.
@OutdoorIntrigue4 жыл бұрын
They do look interesting those vivobarefoot. The lack of any cushioning troubles me. I am currently loving my Hoka’s, will get a review up soon. Trail runners are definitely the way for most things I find.
@JamesWaddington864 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorIntrigue I was worried about that but haven't had an issue so far. Being able to feel whats under your feet is great. Because my casual shoes have a lot of cushioning I find that when I wear them now they feel a bit unstable like I'm wearing platforms. Agree on the trail runners though.

That’s cool, I like the idea of walking more naturally for sure. I can imagine it feels weird at first and when you change shoes like you said.

they don't care about the longevity, I had some innov8 when they first started 14 years ago and they still quickly wore out in the same place, it's a known thing, apparently 2% of world pollution is from the trainer industry....who'd of thought !

That is sad, hopefully the industry changes based on consumer demand for more sustainable products.

Well that sucks! I was pretty disappointed in the longevity of the upper, particularly when compared to the tough soles. Have to say I have been happy with inov8’s in general though.
