Interesting video as always. With the gas I always weigh the full can and write its weight on the bottom with a marker when new, then its easy to see how much gas is left when you get home. Never get caught out.

Good shout that! I usually work it out based on the brand of gas canister and some guesswork 😂 I’ve written down the different brands empty weights in the past and then lost that at some point.

Thats a great kit. Would love to see how you use it, if you dehidrate/cook food in same pot, then you need to wash it every time and need to boil another time to brew a tea. I use larger pot, (msr 850ml) just to boil water, and another large mug to dehydrate, this will give me ever clean main kettle where I can brew a tea with water remaining (half of it goes to second bowl to dehydrate). Hopefully this makes sense :)

Hey 👋🏼, glad you liked the vid. Your method sounds good. With this setup I use dehydrated meals, where I add water to the food pouch. So I would do a first boil for my food, then second boil I’d have my tea/coffee in the mug. I wouldn’t use this setup for cooking anything more than some noodles at the most really. It’s very weight and size focused. ☺️

That 570ml Evernew pot is the ideal solo pot for coffee/porridge/dehydrated meals. I've been using one for 2 or 3 years now, no point in carrying anything larger.

Couldn’t agree more, it does seem to be the perfect solo pot! Thanks for watching.

Love the Soto windmaster, mine is 5 years old now and the piezo is still working. I’ve seen a remote canister stove that weighs about the same as the Soto + canister stand at 98g, I’ve been tempted but as you say the windmaster just works even in the cold and if it ain’t broke….
@OutdoorIntrigue3 жыл бұрын
The Windmaster is just such a performer and a work horse isn’t it! My piezo igniter died so long ago I’ve forgotten when, impressive that yours has done 5 years. I think I like the 8g saving 😉😂 What is this remote stove you mention?? Hand warmer under your gas is a great trick for very cold conditions, I just did it this morning on snow as it happens.
@mikelambrou44623 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorIntrigue great tip on the hand warmer - thanks! The stove is from a small German brand Eifel which is sold by Valley & Peak in the UK. It’s certainly the lightest remote canister stove I’ve seen but I suspect it would need a windshield to work as well as the Windmaster. I guess if your cooking inside the tent a lot it might be worth a look, with your low profile Evernew pot it would make a very stable cook kit with no weight penalty, even more so when you’re taking the bigger pot with Megs?

@@mikelambrou4462 I will take a look at it for sure, I know Valley and peaks site they do some good bits. The windmasters simplicity is so nice though right.
@mikelambrou44623 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorIntrigue it sure is. My only small gripe with it is it’s quite a tall stove, I use a Toaks 550ml pot and combined with the WM it can get a bit unstable if not completely level. Sounds like a good enough excuse to get an Evernew pot like yours!
@OutdoorIntrigue3 жыл бұрын
@Mike Lambrou Perfect excuse for a new bit of kit 😉 Do you use a little tripod for your gas canister? That does add a lot of stability.

Thanks for this, was thinking of switching to fuel as works better in lower temps, but will probably now stick with gas. I’m a big fan of the old charcoal fuel rods and pocket warmers, but you just don’t seem able to get decent rods anymore, just cheap ones that don’t work. I’ve ordered some of the pocket ones you suggest but they seem such a waste for the money. Great tips, many thanks.

Glad you found it useful! I have a fuel stove but honestly because of its inefficiency and faff I rarely ever use it. Gas is just so much easier and more convenient. Agree that the disposable pocket warmers are wasteful compared to a reusable, I just haven’t found a genuinely good reusable option that’s versatile and easy. Appreciate you watching!

I take the handles off my Ti pots and mugs then slide a 5mm vacuum tube over them. Insulates them perfectly and weighs almost nothing.
