Look at the Fisher Horizon series. They are designed around VW engines.

Buy a certified airplane all metal for the same price and performance. Annuals still have to be done, engine maintenance still has to be done. This BS about cheaper is a myth. Wood gets old. it rots, 2 stroke engines are short lived, fabric has to be sheltered and does not last more than about 9 months out in the sun and about 5 years in a hanger. So, unless you just must build your own airplane go for it. You do not save anything on a uncertified airplane and a used one is shear stupid.

Darrell Grisham what are you talking about LMBO a cub is fabric and I have seen them outside in Alaska 30 years and fabric still great it is all in how you deal, prime and paint it and in experimental if you build the airplane you can get a special certificate from FAA to do your own maintenance and annual so you don't know what your talking about, you better stay on the ground.

you can have your apinion I work on super Cubs, citabrias and taylorcraft for over 40 years I know how to treat the wood and do fabric and building a Wag aero trainer same as J3 cub with 0-290 Lycoming no plane I have built has never crashed so I must not be to big a doush or stupid, I have worked on B-17, C118s, DC6s and C46 have fabric control cerfaces .

You, sir are an opinionated ass. I own a 1970 Bellanca viking. Wood, Steel tube, and fabric. Yes I did have it recovered, in 2010, after 40 years and over 3500 hours of flight. No Nothings like you should keep your uninformed opinions to yourself.

WTF are you talking about? Experimentals can far outperform certified aircraft as well. Good luck making a shortfield takeoff in your C152 or PA-28-140 on a hot humid day out west.
