If you're interested in more from the franchise, I'd personally reccomend: Shin Ultraman, a 2022 movie headed by Hideaki Anno and is a retelling of the 2nd Ultra season, Ultraman with some Ultra Q sprinkled at the beginning. Ultraman Tiga: one of the more critically acclaimed seasons with a heartful story that even got a "remake" season a few years ago. Wouldn't reccomend the Fox Kids dub; a lot of the heart was gone in place of being more Americanized. Ultraman Z and Ultraman Blazar: the more recent seasons that are avaliable to watch on KZbin and were given a simuldub.

There are two Ultraman origins In the original Ultraman is an alien whose ship accidentally crashed into a human ship while chasing an alien criminal and accidentally accidentally killed the pilot Hayata. He felt bad so he merged himself with Hayata to save him. So the two are now one, and other shows in the Ultra franchise follows that too The other one is that Ultraman is the alien who just took on a human form like Ultraseven. As to which one the dad is I'm not sure, I think it's the second one because of when he said "she showed me what it means to be human".

It seems the second one indeed. The interesting part is when Onda, the commander of KDF calls the Satos, he mentions Emiko first, means she was the heroine/love interest KDF female member trope of Ken's dad Ultraman. Onda knew her first as his subordinate. This movie is more like what if Ultraman ends up marrying the heroine and having a ultra-human hybrid son

14:40 - they don't EXPLAIN per se, but they drop some heavy hints that later were confirmed by the creators in an interview: professor Sato's words about his wife "teaching him to be human" aren't a metaphor - they're LITERAL. Old man Sato didn't GET his powers, he always had them - he's a native of Nebula M78 (the one mentioned in the stinger), aka Ultra World. He's a freakin' alien - his REAL form is the giant, not the mustached dude. And the reason Ken can go Ultra is because it's in his DNA as an Ultra hybrid.
@danielgudinojuarez67297 ай бұрын
Not gonna lie, even with all that anticipation this film came out good. Maybe not a masterpiece compared to last year's Nimona, but this was an improvement from Thelma the unicorn where so many people cared about the legacy of Ultraman. While true it could've used one more rewrite and act one feels like a total downer, eventually acts 2 and 3 improves and that final battle scene left me with chills. In addition, the animation, score by Scott Stafford, and voice cast does give the feature life as what was promised. But overall, I am okay with the final results. Plus, this was Shannon Tindle's passion project for many years and he finally got to finish it all the way through. Kudos to him and co director John Aoshima for their hardworking talents!!! 🚀🚀🚀👏

Spoilers ahead: I love how the main antagonist of this movie, Dr. Onda, isn't just some one-note evil villain and he's actually complex and sympathetic with redeeming qualities despite his extreme goal. When his right hand man Captain Aoshima was questioning Onda's goal, I expected Onda to threaten him into submission or straight up kill him as an example so his other men don't question him. But no, Onda was nothing but patient and rather fatherly to the captain as he explained to him why he is doing this, and he brought up the captain's kids, not as a manipulation tactic, but as a way for the captain to understand what is at stake here, as Onda genuinely believes eradicating the kaijus will protect not only the captain's family, but all of Japan. After all, Onda did lose his own family to a kaiju attack and he doesn't want anyone else to go through this pain. And in the final battle, Onda ordered all of his men to escape so they wouldn't have to risk their lives, with the loyal captain refusing to leave Onda until he insisted he leave for his safety. What makes Onda a villain is not his goal on paper, as again, he believes it is necessary to protect Japan, it's the brutal extremes he is willing to go through to achieve said goal, as he is perfectly willing to order his men to kill Ultraman despite the latter insisting that there is a peaceful solution. Not to mention that later on Onda straight up orders his men to blow up Ken's house, nearly killing his dad, and then, when Onda loses in the final battle and activates the self-destruct mechanism of his mech, he neglects to realize that the explosion will take out the whole coastline and kill the thousands of people he was trying to protect in the first place, as he was THAT far gone and consumed by his hatred and bitterness. But as soon as Ultraman uses his powers to shield Japan from the explosion, Onda just...... calmly accepts his fate. No anger, no seething hatred, just..... acceptance.

The movie is littered with Easter Eggs from the franchise, which does make it worth at least one rewatch, especially the references to the United Artists 1966 American dub of the original series by mentioning the intro in the movie. This is the second time that Ultraman has been animated in America, the first being the doomed Hanna Barbera cartoon from the 1980s that was supposed to be a full Saturday morning series but ended up being a TV movie because the network didn’t want it. It is actually the third overall if omitting the OVA spinoffs and Ultra Nyan, the kitty Ultra., as Sunrise in its infancy before becoming the Gundam/Super Robot studio made a 1979 anime. As a veteran tokusatsu fan since 2008, I feel the complaints about action are a little bit overblown because Ultras don’t always kill the monsters. Some entities like Cosmos were about teaching children that there are more peaceful ways to resolve a problem that don’t involve violence or to find balance with the world around us. This franchise has been through a lot of rough patches, to see its current era where it has life on Netflix, toys displayed at Comic Con, simulcasts on KZbin and has a crossover with the Avengers in comics is nothing short of incredible. There was a dark age in the early 2010s where Tsuburaya was too broke to even make an Ultra Series and a crooked scum bag stole the international rights to the franchise from the Tsuburaya family through a forged contract, preventing them from making money by selling DVDs of their shows to the rest of the world. It almost seemed like the Giant of Light’s Color Timer would go dark, but then they got a new president from Disney Japan of all places and the company came roaring back to life with new lawyers to get back the rights, an aggressive push to get the DVDs available in the USA and merchandise and branding deals to make the Japanese icon known and visible to the public.

Also not to mention the Manga for Ultraman was actually originally a Kamen Rider Doujinshi that got Cease and Desisted by Toei; only for Tsubaraya to swoop in and offer the mangaka’s the Ultraman license. Essentially a similar story to Rising’s development.

And now that I think of it, Baby Emi does have a similar trait to Upchuck, also from Ben 10, but with the adorable face of a barn owl. And the style, now that I see it, does remind me of Kubo and the Two Strings. Saying that, Shannon Tindle and Sandro Cleuzo worked on both films, which is a coincidence, since both animated films have a Japanese cast of characters. Oh and Andrew Chesworth, who worked on Big Hero 6 and also created the Brave Locomotive helped design Baby Emi.

❤️💖 This movie 🎬 marks the directorial comeback of Shannon Tindle and Marc Haimes, the same writers and creator of Kubo and the Two Strings and it been 8 years since these two worked on animated film for so long. I was exited and optimistic for Ultraman for two reasons where one considering the fact it will be directed and written by Shannon Tindle who wrote Kubo and the Two Strings and two is going to be released in my birthday. I do praised the Spider Verse style animation, the action scenes and the voice acting. Although I do have criticisms would be the story and it reminds me too much of E.T., the Iron Giant, Bumblebee and maybe How to Train Your Dragon where you have the main character befriend and found his supernatural creature, makes friend with the creature but then you have the cliché generic evil government agent villains who are going after and chasing the creature either to experiment on him, caged him or doing something awful the protagonist has to protect and saved his friend and protect him at all cost from the evil corrupt government. So yeah it's basically E.T. and Iron Giant but with kajiu. I will give this a watch. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️

A better movie to watch is Shin Ultraman. It's more faithful to the original 1960s television show as it is essentially a modern retelling of it. All the monster fights are spot on and the message in that movie is something greater than being a parent. It's pretty much your typical superhero movie without the parent-child element. And might I add, it does things that Man of Steel fails at in terms of showing the more vulnerable side of a superhero. Shin Ultraman successfully demonstrates the more superhero and eastern cultural aspect of the character in ways I think Ultraman Rising lacks at. Still this was a pretty good movie. Now for anyone who doesn't know a lot about Ultraman, it is essentially like what we have here in the West with Superman and the Lantern Corps, where Ultraman has other members of his kind called the Ultra Brothers. They are all alien humanoids from a far away region of stars called Nebula - M78. The Ultraman series was the first to do a long running tokusatsu series where every new season or series follows a new character and theme but it's just the same repetition of giant superheroes fighting Kaiju monsters, long before Super Sentai (aka Power Rangers). Every new series follows a new variation of Ultraman sometimes given certain surnames like Ultra seven, Ultraman Jack, Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Dyna, and so on. Just like the Power Rangers and Kamen Rider, Ultraman is still running with new TV shows and movies to this day. One of the OGs of Tokusatsu (Japanese practical and special effects) right next to Godzilla. RIP Eiji Tsuburaya (1901 - 1970).

The movie is good, but you are right about one thing. It's kinda generic, especially when it comes to those tiresome messages about the importance of family in all the shows and movies you've seen before. Another issue is that they don't explore the Ultraman mythos very deeply since no one outside of Japan is a fan of this series. And don't get me started on Kamen Rider, since it got its chance after Saban's dreadful adaptation back in the mid-90s. Speaking of which, why didn't they think about making an animated movie of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers since they want Japanese superheroes fighting giant monsters ? Not to mention, both live-action movies from the past were... well, flops.

Next is Despicable Me 4. Oh boy is this gonna be the seal of garbage time? Like Ice Age 5 and Trolls 3 since their previous movies didn’t get that seal but the newest one will. I really hope it will get a high score though.

Yes, it will get the seal of garbage. Just like the wild robot will too.
