Lot of good recommendations 👍but two pieces of gear thats always in my gear is a halo sweat band and a “buff” , and maybe a 3rd cheap and low tech is a small micro towel always in a pocket. Wishing everyone great running in 2024. 😀🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Prescription glasses wearer. Halo performed excellent during this past summer’s heat dome. Only gripe, gotta wear a hat with early morning runs as headlamp will slide on Halo.

Some of my favorite 2023 gear: Shoes - NNormal Kjerag (amazing for trails and road up to marathon distance) Winter socks - Sealskinz Cold Weather (very warm and waterproof) Winter shirt - Gore Windstopper Thermo Turtleneck Half Zip (warm and totally windproof) Summer Shirt - Compressport Trail Half Zip (breathable and soft fabric) Shorts - Gore Ultimate 2in1 (good compression, lots of usable pockets, no chaffing) Half tights - Nike Trail Lava Loops (super comfortable, lots of usable pockets) Headlamp - Nitecore NU43 (bright and with lots of modes) Running belt - Instinct Belt (tricky to get the right size but ZERO bounce even when loaded to the max) Running vest - Salomon Adv Skin 12 (aka the king of running vests) Jacket - Gore Shakedry Trail (still the one)

Love the Saucony Kinvara Pro as well but am noticing big gouges in the outsole from running on a gravelly road. The small pebbles were actually embedded right into the rubber. My personal favourite shoe for the year is the North Face Vectiv Pro. You really need to try this one. The whole Vectiv lineup are winners. Have a great 2024 🇨🇦

I run on a gravel road all the time with the Kinvara Pro and haven’t noticed any issues with mine. I’ve heard great things about the Vectiv line.

Lots of favs pending on distance. Sal advakin12 is amazing. UD tights & compression shorts, Patagonia tee, removable sleeves, UD Gloves. Love Boco Hats ❤, Arcteryx wind shell, UD Venturi JKt, buffs, Ftwr, oh boy….short- kjerag, mid- Topo mtn racer 3, long- sac Xodus Ultra 1, really long Speedland GS:PGH or Brooks Caldera 6, watch? If I could mash up looks and screen of Apple Watch with Coros Apex pro2 I’d be in heaven.

I wear alot of Salomon too, but the Hoka’s just fit my foot better. My favorite trail shoe of 2022 was the Salomon Pulsar Trail. I would love to try some NF stuff.

What NF clothes would you recommend? For reference, I’m in very south Texas and always seeking breathable duds-just don’t see any on their website or while cruising REI that appear appropriate. Favorite shirt is an at least 6-7 year old NB D2D shirt-breathable, still reflective. Tried Janji, Rabbit-not on par. Thanks in advance.

Can’t do without I guess watch , COROS apex pro. Favorite shoes up to 50k maybe 50 miles Salomon sense pro 4 just two narrow in the toolbox or any thing really farther than that actually that’s kind of pushing it. Now that I’m thinking about INOV-8 trailfly g270. 2024 Thrills in the hills 50k Cruel jewel 50, really 58. Then end of year 100 maybe Georgia jewel or pinhoti or something else.

@@UltraTrailSteven thanks, that product category has huge upside potential. Salomon belts are sold out, only a few left from Hoka, and people are still using fanypacks! Hydration vests are good for the hot summer weather but these days I need something simpler

Thanks, Steven, for covering so much in an informative, 15-minute video. Although I'm not new to the trail and ultra scene, it's always fun (and appreciated) to discover new products from an expert! Haven't tried the Mafate Speed 4, how does it compare to Speedgoat 5 and do you have a recommendation? Been running technical trails with Torrent 3, which doesn't do well in wet and slippery conditions (not Vibram sole). Happy holidays and all the best to you and your family in 2024!

Great video Steven. Love that water filter insert! Does it impede the flow when you need a slip? I've been looking into the Pocket 3, but I was worried about the durability. I might be moving away from the GoPros, have you considered switching to the Action 4? I use those Baleaf thermals on the road bike, I agree the are amazing. Happy holidays to you and your family!

Thank you, Sage! Yeah, you have to squeeze the flask with the filter in to get a good flow. I’m not too impressed with the Action 4. The one that really intrigues me is the Insta360 Ace Pro. I’m hoping to test that soon. I hope you have a merry Christmas!

Hm it depends on what I am running. I like cushioned shoes for the road, and cushioned trail shoes for long stuff, but sometimes I like more ground feel.
