Thank you so much for sharing your journey! I’ve had both knees replaced since October of last year, and just had my hip replaced 3 weeks ago. I did have a blood clot with the last knee replacement. I'm seven months out. Sprinting, box jumping, squating, deadlifing, yoga. Ran for 30 minutes at 8:00 per mile, no pain. You are walking far really early. Take it easy! I didn't worry about walking workouts for 4 weeks. After six weeks, I was able to walk as far as I wanted. They pulled you apart like a string cheese on that operating table. Those ligaments need time to recover.

Total hip replacement in July ‘22. I was 58 at the time. Couldn’t be happier. Was back at my office job in 3 weeks. They warned me it takes a year for full recovery but 80% happens in the first few weeks. Hang in there. It is NOT a super fast process, especially if running on unstable dirt paths is what you want. But it WILL be amazing eventually. PS: Eloquis is a good example of what’s wrong with healthcare in America. My parents were in their 90s and trying to afford Eloquis for both of them. Many seniors take it and it is impossibly expensive. Very sad that seniors on small fixed incomes must struggle this way.

I had a total hip replacement on September 23rd 2024. I stumbled upon your KZbin videos about your wife’s surgery and recovery this last July when I thought what was wrong with my left hip was going to be a simple fix possibly bursitis and I was looking for exercises to hopefully help with the pain. After pushing for an MRI with contrast, I found out it was AVN requiring a total hip replacement. I don’t fit the profile for AVN so doctor unsure my blood supply was cut off to the femoral head, causing it to die and collapse. I will be 60 in November and I have always been extremely active, so this was quite a shock. I did not realize until today that you and I had surgery very close timewise and I am surprised that you drove yourself to the hospital and then you drove you and your wife home after finding out you had blood clots😳…. Man, I’m sorry to hear that you had to go through the pain of blood clots aswell on top of hip recovery. The doctors prescribed Eliquis for me aswell when I left the hospital, I need to take them for 3 weeks, 2 times per day and then switch to Aspenter for one month, hope I won’t get any blood clots as I’m also wearing the compression socks. I hope you won’t have any more problems with blood clots and wish you a fast recovery!

It's great to see that your doing so well. And also you taking the walks. What I noticed was if I sat around to long I'd get stiff which to me was a step backwards. I hope your coughing isn't anything serious. I thought maybe at first it could be the coughing from the gases given, but that's just a theory. I'm not an MD, I'm just someone that's been through some stuff. Anyway, continue on with your recovery and best wishes to you and don't forget your focus, Running!! Take care!

Sadly know what you’re going through with the blood clots. I had DVT #3 this spring and it’s been the slowest recovery yet. 🥴 Dr. Monticelli at RMCC here in the springs is a FABULOUS hematologist if you need one. I hope you recover quickly. It took a good 6 months for me to feel somewhat normal again after mine. 😬

Hey Steve watching your follow up video, sorry to hear of your set back. I can tell you a long story about DVT, pulmonary embolism etc. I had both, not due to my hip surgery but I am on lifetime warfarin (blood thinner) because I had to have blood work to test for clotting issues and I do have antiphosphlipid syndrome which is an autoimmune disease. I have to follow a specific protocol before I have any surgery. Will have to do it again when I have revision hip surgery. I did not know I had this until I had a DVT and PE 11/12 years ago. I hope your blood work comes out negative. Take care.

I was told 3 days ago that I need both of my hips replaced. Plus I injured my spine when I injured my hips. I fell when the 4' ladder I was on collapsed and I literally bent over backwards. The ladder collapsed on my right toe, I fell backwards hitting the top of my head first and the ladder had collapsed on the floor and I landed my back on top of a box of cleaners. This was a year ago this month. Anyway they finally did MRI's so I screwed myself up pretty good. My right knees been replaced and then modified. Right shoulder is torn and already has a metal plate and screws, left shoulder has a bloody broken plastic plate and screws and is also torn again. I ended up with gastro parisis from Trulicity shots so I can't take pain meds because my intestines/stomach is paralyzed and I have diverticulitis so I'm on stool softeners and Linsess to survive eating on the TMI side.... I won't have anyone to help me. I have my own private cat rescue and have 37 cats, 16 with FLV...6 dogs, plus parakeets and chickens to care for. I can hardly walk so darn it I'm scared to death....I hurt 24/7 and sleep after exhaustion maybe 2-3 hours broken up a day. Any advice will be more than welcome. Thanks for the videos... GOD BLESS You 🙏🐈⬛🐾

So sorry to hear of your complications. Hang in there! I wanted to offer my two cents on using the ice machine. I had knee surgery (actually 3 of them in total) for meniscus tears and used the Ice Man brand cooler for my icing. My doctor recommended using it around the clock for best results, and it was amazing. Nothing like having a hip replacement, however. We bought bags of ice for convenience until someone suggested using bottles of water. So, my ice machine held 6, 16 oz (I think) bottles of water. So we had a total of 12 frozen bottles and when it was time to refresh ice machine, we just had to swap out the bottles for the 6 frozen bottles. So very much easier to do. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery!

Eliquis (expensive), Lovenox injections (expensive), Xarelto (mid-range), and warfarin (cheapest) are the best. They all do the same thing as thin your blood. However, you are susceptible to blood clots due to the high athletic level you are competing at. When I was a high-level pro-soccer player, I tore my Achilles tendon full thickness, and also found out I needed a full knee replacement needing surgery (same leg). I was put on Lovenox injections (quickest acting) at first because it is a stronger blood thinner and after a few weeks on injections I was downgraded to Xarelto (oral) for a while until I got more active and was then stepped down to Warfarin (oral) for a bit, then I was healed, and all blood tests were back to normal with no issues. I was very sick with 8 DVT's to 8 PEs, but I'm great now with no worries! Good luck!

The same happened to me, I was laying on my back and I slightly rolled to the left and then a big clunk, my left leg flopped over, I quickly stood up and it all popped back to normal but it was very sore for days. Now I’m scared of it happening again. When I get out of bed I hook my good leg under my bad leg and lower it to the floor. My physio told me it can happen after the operation but it was very scary and painful. I’m four weeks on from the operation now, still in pain but slightly better now. Hope you heal quickly.

I’m not sure what the super path method is. My surgery was anterior and they did not cut any muscles. If your incision is in your butt then you had posterior and they had to cut muscles. The posterior takes longer to heal from

I am 67 yrs old. I had my left hip replaced on August 13, 2023. I had difficult recovering as my lower back was causing a lot of pain while walking. I had surgery January 2, 2024 on my L4/5, L 5/6, L6/7 (I think that’s correct). It was a very difficult recovery, and I was having major problems with my balance. My surgeon saw me out in public , and he noticed I was quite wobbly. He asked if *we* ever looked at my neck. We had not, so the next day I was in for neck X-rays, and it was not good. So in August I had surgery on C3/4, C4/5. I’m still in my neck brace, 9 weeks down, 3 weeks to go. Sleeping with the brace on is the biggest hurdle. And I’m having hip replacement surgery in early January. Whew!

140$ for just meds is ridiculous. I am going to undergo hip replacement tomorrow at Sakra hospital in Bangalore city , India. Total cost quoted for me is around $450 for surgery including two days of ICU stay and three days of hospital stay. The amount is completely covered by the insurance with zero copay.
@UltraTrailStevenАй бұрын
OMG that’s insanely cheap! lol mine was about $30,000. More if you count my follow up ER visit that was over $16,000

@@UltraTrailSteven in india we have economies of scale because of 1.43 billion population. A good surgeon performs atleast 5 to 8 hip replacements every day or 1000 to 1500 per annum. So, the hospital costs gets amortised and also the surgeon becomes highly efficient due to the vast experience.

I had a total right hip replacement Wednesday, September 18 so I’m close to you in terms of recovery although everyone’s challenges are different. Unlike you I was in lousy physical condition. I’ve been suffering after a fall down the stairs on my slippery steps when my basement flooded. But to your point, I saw my doctor today and he said you “everything‘s growing back together you’ve got crazy nerve endings and muscles etc. everything I’ve cut through” He said it’s going to be challenging everything is mending back - he doesn’t want me doing any physical therapy - he wants me to use the walker or the cane at all times he said physical therapy is not gonna teach you anything except how to walk and he said if they try and push you and have you doing other things that could potentially injure you and I do not want them taking any chances. Just let it heal. I have to have my other hip done. We’re gonna talk about it at my 6 week appointment. I have been feeling phenomenal. My pain level is gone from a 9/10 to 2/3 but I don’t know what happened yesterday just like you. I was fine all day felt perfect. I was sitting in the chair having supper with my son and got up to go to bed and I’m when I laid down honestly it felt like the shank of the ball literally snapped, and was about to pierce my femur! I was in so much pain like you. I was wailing for my son who had his headset on and I couldn’t hear a word. I said I couldn’t get up. I couldn’t walk. I took a painkiller and aleve. Lots of ice and heat alternating it was bad. He said that’s gonna happen. I’m truly surprised, though. It feels like the muscles in my hamstring and my glutes are very tender and if I touch them, I can feel a shooting pain in my T12 disk. But I have to say I insisted that I had bad spinal issues. My sciatic was so inflamed. My groin was so inflamed, but after the surgery, my sciatic is all but gone, the shooting pains down my legs into my knees gone. It’s like a miracle God I never realize you caused that much damage they kept saying it’s just your hips. It’s just your hips, but we’ll do your hips and then we’ll play it by ear. Anyhow just wanted to let you know I’m in the battle with you. We’re both gonna come out of this on top. Praise God all the best to you.🤝
@UltraTrailStevenАй бұрын
Wow! Sounds like you must have had a posterior surgery if the surgeon cut all the muscles and tendons. That’s likely why he doesn’t want you doing PT yet. Hopefully you’ll be able to get in PT soon cause it has been great for me! Those random insane pains are ridiculous. No clue what happens. Man hopefully there won’t be any more. Wishing you a speedy recovery too!
