Testing factory shot count and removing the EPS system and testing shot count again.
Factory hammer spring adjustment, 11.76% increase in shot count at just 1000 psi of air used.
Not spectacular but it is 11.76% at over 30 fpe

I haven't had time to watch the whole video but I will. The big attraction to the Origin for me and others is its hand pump friendly and comes with one. It's very hard to hand pump after 3k. I'm getting 30 shots from 3k down to 2k. (About 60 pumps to get back to 3k) I can go 40 shots and it drops to 1650. (That takes about 75 pumps to get back to 3k) so for a lot of us it's all about combination of shot count vs effort to refill. Just more food for thought. I appreciate you sharing your data and can't wait to watch it fully. Fwiw I'm completely happy with my origin and shot count. One of the best 300$ I've ever spent. I'm about 700 pellets in just the first 2 days getting to know it. It's extremely accurate. Hole touching hole groups at 30 yards and that's just crosman 14.3's. Can't wait to try air arms and jsb. They're about 3 times tighter groups in all my other guns vs crosman. If I wasn't a handpumper I'd be using way more than just the 2-3k psi range more than likely, or turning the power up some, provided it didn't hinder accuracy at the higher speeds as sometimes happens.

After removal ES doubled. Only 2 extra shots. Better ES and SD at stock setting. Should see that in groups when you get to that point. Should see better groups with stock gun. Extra shots not worth it .

What Nova Vista out of Macau China has been doing for the air gunners industry is mind blowing especially at the price point they can deliver them at. From the ATI Nova Vista Liberty, Freedoms, Seneca Aspen, Avenger, Origin, Leviathan, Alpha, and so on....these guns...all of them shoot exceptionally well. Great value and features across the board. N.V is a company I am keeping a very close eye on in the future. Accurate, dependable, easy to tinker with a, modify, and get after market parts for...super awesome bang for the buck. Good video. Thanks to this video. I was able to increase my shot count above 50 for my Origin 22. It dropped to 25 shots within less than 2 weeks out from the box. It would cut off after 2000psi. My EPT piston was stuck and holding a large unusable volume of air on the other side of the stuck piston. I bleed the check value and left piston still in the tube. I will removed the piston if I plan to keep it or return it for an Avenger 22. Please give feed back on Origin vs Avenger. Thanks.

As far as the current Avengers go I would pick the Origin largely because of the stock. The Avenger had about as many problems with the regulators as the origin did with the EPS. The new model of Avenge X is supposed to have an upgraded regulator and a composite stock that's not hollow sounding. It has many more upgrades also however it is like $800 MSRP

Well this video covers the removal. You would need a "vent free" regulator like the one Alteros makes for a 3/4" air tube. Lastly it will not fill from the fill probe anymore and you would need to work on the end of the airtube where it says "not a fill port" to put a foster fitting in it and fill from there. If you're not already a member maybe go check out the Origin Facebook group one of the members there Randy Koga has kust done this with his

Worth checking with those companies to see if they are willing to give up some parts. Short of that you could make one fairly easy but getting those holes the exactly distance apart would be a little trouble without one to go by. It's a shame to have a gun down for such a little part

Definitely a pump failure. It's common with the Umarex pumps. They were supposed to have this sorted out with the later batches but who knows if they have an early or later model pump. It comes with spare orings to rebuild it and those that have say they work great afterwards. Some have even said they took the pump apart before they even used it to clean and lubricate it and it worked perfectly afterwards.

Potential Origin purchaser here….it would be my first PCP. How is everyone’s Origin holding up? I feel like I’ve read quite a few problem comments regarding leaks and other issues. One was something about if the fill probe leaks, it’s not something you can repair yourself and the gun has to be sent off, is that the case? Im looking for something reliable and preferably self serviceable when the inevitable does happen and something fails. Also, possible to delete the EPT system and add a regulator to the stock tank? Perhaps add a fill connection at the end of the tube like an avenger?
@kidpellet6544
@kidpellet6544 2 жыл бұрын
The fill probe can give you a little trouble but comes with spare orings. That's just the nature of airguns that use a fill probe instead of a quick connect. Now the check valve inside the housing for the fill probe is a different story. I removed mine when I was doing some work on it and it never sealed up again. It's just a small hole in the aluminum housing with a steel check ball and spring so it's very easy to get a leak there. I got mine to seal up with a really small oring under the check ball and another guy got his to seal up with a small engine carburetor needle valve that has a rubber tip on it. Other than that the whole gun is often replaced under warranty. The EPT is easily removed and if your handy with a drill and tap you can put a quick connect on the end like so many other airguns, it even has a check valve in the end already. Then you just need a regulator for something like a Benjamin Maximus that fits a 3/4 inch ID tube. The tube on the Origin is a little irregular shaped inside so you may have to sand the OD of the regulator to get it to fit. I went a different route with mine. I put a 25 cal barrel on it and a carbon fiber 4500 psi regulated bottle. Lots of power and shots now. I have another one that's destined to be a 30 cal and hoping for around 100 fpe

@@argntoys4709 with a little testing you can find a softer hammer spring and slow it down. It's also going to depend a lot on pellet weight also. If you have a chronograph you can probably fill the gun to 3650 max and back the hammer spring tension all the way out and get pretty close to that velocity for a few shots. When the pressure drops it's going to pick up velocity. So you just need to know how many shots you can get before it starts shooting faster. As an un regulated gun it has a shot curve

Sorry to be a dummy but what does EPS stand for and what function does the EPS cylinder perform? The Origin is advertised as unregulated so how does pellet speed increase when cylinder pressure drops? I love my Origin PCP and would like to know a bit more. The sticky EPS cylinder might explain the non-linear pressure build up when pumping.
@kidpellet6544
@kidpellet6544 7 ай бұрын
It is a valve or rather a sliding plug that prevents you from running the air cylinder from running all the way out of air. That makes it faster to pump back up. It really has nothing to do with the "shot curve" which is the whole pellet velocity changing with air pressure. That is caused the air pressure in the valve is high enough that the hammer and spring have a hard time opening the valve. As the pressure drops it gets easier to open and releases more air to push the pellet. The "curve" is largely affected by the hammer spring setting. This is common in non regulated airguns of all kinds. As for the "Ever Pressure Sustem" I've found the inside diameter of the airtube to be a little irregular especially when compared to other airguns I have. I'm sure this is why the valve seems to stick in one spot for a couple of shots then sort of jump. Sometimes you can hear it do this when your filling it back up. If your not hand pumping or you pay attention to the pressure gauge so it doesnt run really low on air then you don't need the EPS and you can even gain a little air from the space in the tube it takes up. Hope this sheds a little light on it for you
@Andrew-oh2nr
@Andrew-oh2nr 7 ай бұрын
Thank you for the explanation and additional insights into the Umarex Origin. I now understand how the power curve works based on the pressure resistance against the hammer spring being too high at first, then perfect and then too low air pressure. It sort of makes sense that the EPS cylinder makes it faster to pump up because it separates the cylinder into two halves. I can think about this some more while plinking on my Umarex Origin! @@kidpellet6544

You can try degassing the gun with the screw under the forend and then releasing a little pressure on the EPS side. If it picks up a few shots repeat until the shot count is normal again. Haven't personally had it happen to mine but that may be because I didn't leave the EPS in long enough. Several have mentioned this in the Origin group and a couple have remove the EPS and say it's fine now. Others just return it. It appears to be air getting past the orings on the EPS and building up on the other side of it which affects the volume of air you can actually use. You could use the method I used to release a little air from the end of the airtube and see how it does. If it's better but not where you want it just repeat until it gets down to maybe 1800 psi? People report several different pressures before dropping off all the way and there is no information available on exactly how much it should be. I made an adapter to refill mine but haven't done any testing yet

Yah, the numbers for this one time test are a little misleading. If you've ever done chronograph work you know you can do 3 shot strings and none of them will be exactly the same. This video only represents a certain fill pressure start to finnish. I recently did a shot count and watched the vertical string on target without the EPS. I got 74 shots from 3625 down to 800. The vertical string on paper at 30 yards was covered with a Crosman pellet tin lid. Now I know that's not exciting news in the world of precision shooting however, if your a backyard shooter that's shooting cans and spinners this is a huge difference in shot count for usable shots. It actually shot a pretty good group up till around shot number 65. The last ten shots landing lower and lower account for about an extra inch drop. Also the drop is very predictable and you can see the impact getting lower so you could adjust your aim to compensate for it and keep on hitting spinners and such easily. Now I'm not saying everyone should remove the EPS and avoid the warranty BUT, that thing has orings on it and you can bet they will wear out. Some guys in the FB group for Origins are already reporting problems with it. Dont know how but it seems that air pressure is building on the closed side of the EPS and they are losing half the shot count. I think at least one guy removed his instead of sending it in due to the long wait to get it replaced and is happy with it. I've also made a fitting to reinstall the EPS and air it back up with a hand pump but have not had time to do any testing with pressures. My primary reason to remove mine was to put a regulated bottle on it and a 25 cal barrel. I had the first 25 cal Origin and regulated. 40+ shots at 70 fpe. Posted it on Umarex FB page several times and now you can buy one in 25 cal right from them. I guess a 30 cal swap is next for me.

@kidpellet6544
@kidpellet6544 Жыл бұрын
Lastpro, yes. Its actually a little cheaper than the kit for the Avenger. The valve block is a little different since it doesn't have a regulator in it so I don't need to add a plenum hanging out the bottom. I leave about 6 inches of the airtube for plenum space and attach a bottle adapter like Archer airguns sells for under 50 bucks. The guys with the Crosman 22xx pistols been doing it for years. The big deal is you have to use larger screws to hold the bottle adapter on the tube because the regulated pressure is quite a bit higher. Mine is at 2200 psi and that's way more than the screws that come with the Archer adapter comes with should be holding. I think those selling the Avenger kits are asking 300 or more for it and your still left fitting the stock for the plenum which hangs down in front of the trigger. Then they buy a printed barrel/bottle band also. I have 3 Avengers I planned of doing something with but after I modded my Origin I just kinda lost interest in modding the Avengers. Instead I spent my time making a barrel tensioner to stiffen the barrel and it paid off. It shoots good groups out to 60 yards at 70 fpe. That's kind of a big deal when you consider the weight of the gun. It's really light for that much power and that can be a problem down range. My FT rifle weighs 13+ lbs to make it very stable and it's only an 18.5 fpe 177. In a gun that weighs a few lbs less and shoots a 43 grain pellet at a little over 850 fps there's a little more movement during the firing cycle. For me, I just like the Origin better. I like the stick better than both Avenger stocks. I like that mine has a paintball type regulator, nothing is better I've found and they are cheap. Remember, even that even the dual regulator Avenger setups that cost so much use the Avenger regulator as the final regulator and that's the one guys are having problems with. Here's a news flash for ya, when I'm done playing with the EPS pressures in my 22 Origin for the guys in the group that want to know, I'm going to put a 30 cal barrel on it and go for broke with power. Just not enough hours in the day ya know

It does take more air to fill from empty. But once it's full it's no harder to maintain air. If you got 30 shots before it was low with the plug then you just simply stop shooting at 30 shots with the plug out.

@kidpellet6544

Lastpro, that's about how it works. I removed mine to put a regulated bottle on my gun and just made a video to show others how to do it. Turns out there are a few in the Origin FB group that are having problems with the EPS and have either de-gassed it or removed it. Seems like the air pressure on the usable side of the EPS is able to get passed the orings it has and build up in the non usable side. This means that the EPS gets to the end of the cylinder faster meaning fewer shots than they had previously gotten. Also means less pumping to get it full again. It does what its supposed to do but it does have orings and they will eventually fail. The orings in a regulator onle move a millimeter or so and wear out fairly often. The EPS moves at least half the length of the air tube every time you fill it and shoot it back down. Mine was pretty oily inside the airtube but also had a little debris which would make the orings on the brass EPS fail a little sooner than if it were spotless during assembly. I still have an Origin that's not bottled and have made an adapter to recharge the EPS. The idea is to recharge to several different pressures and report the results to those that are interested. Then tear that one down and put a regulated bottle on it too. I also have the first 25 cal Origin putting out 70 for with a 43 grain pellet. A lot of people say it's not economical but I had all the parts laying around so it really didn't cost me that much and it gets 40+ shots at that energy and shoots really well with a tensioned barrel and no added barrel band. I'll be adding some content pretty soon and my Origins will be part of it

@@kidpellet6544 Ray, I have been posting on the FB Origin page about my pressure gauge. I had been in contact with Umarex about sending it back, which is what they at 1st suggested doing, but I have not heard back from them in the last couple of weeks. So, again as some were suggesting, I was going to get my own non Umarex gauge and replace it, to avoid sending it back. But now, reading from your above post, "Seems like the air pressure on the usable side of the EPS is able to get passed the o-rings it has and build up in the non usable side. This means that the EPS gets to the end of the cylinder faster ", and I am starting to wonder if that is my problem rather than a bad gauge. My gauge keeps reading higher and higher when empty, even de-gassed. A couple of months ago it was 600, then 1200, 1400 and just today I shot down to empty and noticed it was reading about 1800. When my 2 pump gauges are both showing about 3000, my rifle will be showing about 4800 as best I can guess(gauge doesn't read above 4000). Does this sound to you like pumped/compressed air is getting past the O rings and into the wrong side, into the EPS side? If that is the case, I'd better forget about the gauge and contact them again to get this thing back to the factory. I guess it could just be the gauge, but why would the gauge continue to read higher and higher when empty? TIA for your thoughts!
@kidpellet6544
@kidpellet6544 Жыл бұрын
@@BillyBobTup two things, if the gun gauge reads over 4k but both your pump gauges are reading significantly less then I suspect the gun gauge. The second thing is, going by the pump gauge, if you were getting say 40 shots when it was new, is it still getting 40 shots? If the pump gauge says you it has 3k in it and it's only getting say 15 shots then the there definitely seems there is more air pressure in the unusable side. I made an adapter to refill the EPS but I have not tested it yet to see how much pressure will give you what results. It's on my list of things but unfortunately it's a long list and I'm a little short on time lately. If the EPS pressure is indeed creeping up then degassing the EPS and resetting the pressure with a hand pump and adapter may be a real thing with the Origin

I'm curious why you want to disable the EPT system just to get more shots. The thing that attracted me to this gun was the low number of pumps that was required to get full power shots. That accumulator is sort of what makes the gun special. Do you know if the gas you let out is just compressed air? I would have expected it to be Nitrogen, since it is more stable over changing temperatures. Will you be demonstrating how to recharge the accumulator? If so, what pressure are you going to shoot for? If the air tube happens to be made of aluminum, you could drill into the side of the accumulator's piston, the thing you're calling the valve, and glue a tiny magnet that would let you locate where the piston is at different tank pressures. That thing could be sliding all the way to the end, in which case, you'd only pick up the volume that the piston itself displaces. I always find your videos fascinating and admire your willingness to just tear into things to get the answers you're looking for. I WILL be watching as you go forward with this. Stay Safe.

Thanks for watching John, most of the answers to your questions are in the somewhat long, and boring video lol. However, I have no idea what type of gas the factory uses or if there would be any advantage in using nitrogen over air. As far as putting the EPT system back in I really have no intention but charging the system back up if I were to put it back in would be as easy as making a metric adapter for a foster fitting and using the hand pump the rifle came with to charge it. My best guess is it's got somewhere close to 1000 psi in that end because when I'm charging the gun from empty I hear the brass piece ping at about 1100 psi. I use a tank to fill and have never even taken the hand pus out of the box with either of my Origins. In the origin group there are one or two people that are only intrested in shot count for target shooting in the back yard and not power for hunting. One gentleman I gave the idea to is reporting 80+ shots down to 1000 psi with the hammer spring backed all the way out and another 20 shots after that. He says the cheap Crosman 14.3 pellets are still going through a one 2x4 for the last 20 shots under 1000 psi. I myself picked up about 3 or 4 good shots in my .25 cal Origin all above 50 fpe with 54 fpe being the highest. For me that was with removing the EPT system. However I'm not done with the .25, the bottle is going on tonight and I'm going to increase the transfer port a little more. A 4500 psi .45L regulated bottle should help shot count. Later on my .35L carbon fiber bottle should be here and then I can fit the stock. Keep your eye open for that video

@@TierNoneOperator I would just loosen the little screw in the side of the barrel band and tighten the airtube by hand. If it doesnt seal then it needs an oring. There are two that could be leaking in that area. One is between the airtube and receiver the other is inside the airtube sealing the threaded cap to it. That one can't be replaced without de gassing the EPT system. I'm not home right now or I could send you a picture of the parts disassembled.
