Less Lethal defense using the Umarex Glock 17 gen 5 .43 caliber launcher might be best done up close and personal. So I put that to the test in this video using aluminum rounds at 20 ft. 6 ft., and point blank range. My previous video using these rounds remains my most watched video ever on the channel so I decided to revisit them and use lube as many have suggested. Did it solve the barrel scratching issue? How effective were they against a hard target? Watch and let's discuss.

Good video. Nice shooting my friend. If used at close range hitting sencitive parts it should be enough power. Bet it will hurt as Hell 🤔. I just tested my PPQ with aluminium balls. They blasted through a tincan at ca 1,5 meters range with ca 7,5 joule energy. Think its enough if hit in the right places 🤔

I agree with you. I previously have thought only about deterrence from 20 ft. but in reality up close is where these shine. I will do some more with this tool to see what it is capable of. It's compact enough for EDC and might have a niche.

Nice test. I keep the Walther PPQM2 launcher in the side pouch built into the arm of our sofa. All three emergency magazines have the modded valve spring and are loaded with aluminum balls. Across my backyard at about thirty feet it will break a soda bottle inside a foam coozie. The fifteen feet to my front door makes really easy shot placement if someone tries coming in. My wife has small hands and arthritis so this is the best option she’s good with.

@@bryancantrell1138 Thanks. These are certainly the most compact and handy little launchers around. They aren’t to be underestimated. Nobody wants to be shot even with 7 Joules.

It may be a .43 caliber launcher, but with good placement it can definitely be an effective deterrent since most engagements will be at 10 feet or kess. I'd suggest trying it on a piece of steak as this would simulate human tissue pretty well.
@ScaredyCatTactical
@ScaredyCatTactical Ай бұрын
Interesting idea. I’ve never tried biological tissue before. Point blank is a whole new level and is fairly realistic. I’m definitely going to try more targets now that I’m not worried about the aluminum ammo harming my barrel.

@@ScaredyCatTacticalI tried it with both my Byrna SD and with the HDX as I wanted to know how well they would hit on a more realistic target from 10 feet and I was impressed by the results.

Great video. It actually has the same 7.5j as the Byrna. Just the pay load is less. I think with a .43 cal pepperball one would really benefit. Lancer makes pretty decent pepper rounds. A couple of face shots up close will definitely ruin someone’s day

I dabble with ammo's very interesting, I'm a big believer with bore matching .I believe that the ammo is stronger than the barrel metal ( cheap material) aways great video, and love your approach .😊
@ScaredyCatTactical
@ScaredyCatTactical Ай бұрын
I have some videos specifically on bore matching. For power a good bore match and a longer barrel are the easiest ways to get the most out of the air and still maintain reliability.
@Outrider74
@Outrider74 Ай бұрын
Are those bores blued? BTW, that's not bad power for a 43 caliber. Also... nice Strat!
@ScaredyCatTactical
@ScaredyCatTactical Ай бұрын
I don't think so. The aluminum barrel on this T4E is one of the cheaper parts in it. The outside aesthetics are great though. I can see why 7 Joules is the limit in parts of Europe. It is non-lethal but could be a deterrent when used up close on sensitive body parts.

You should use ice as a target i shot through about an inch of ice using 11mm steel balls from close range 3-4meters.

try the 5g 0.43cal stainless steel ball bearings for comparison to the aluminum. The added weight might get you closer to 10 joules.

@@robertstevens9656 I keep getting that suggestion. RastaFish Ballistics did the comparison and the aluminum was the best overall in several comparisons so I haven’t pursued it. Maybe I will reconsider for up close shots.

@@ScaredyCatTactical that’s true, but at the close range you were shooting at the ice for example, might have a significant impact. Worth a “shot!”👍🏻😉

Rubber balls with crushed steel compound sounds interesting. If they are lubed rubber probably fires ok. I usually try to go with slick surfaces for the best FPS. There are also some PVC/steel core rounds out there that I haven't tried but I think they are a little too heavy. These aluminum rounds are probably at the sweet spot for this launcher.

Could you coat the ball bearings with a softer and a less brittle metal, or nylon (that was smart, you mentioned it in the video.) so it eats into the barrels rifling grooves Does the Co2 gun even have rifling?
@ScaredyCatTactical
@ScaredyCatTactical Ай бұрын
Good thoughts. This one has no rifling. I know there are ways to coat them but I haven't looked into it carefully. There are some PVC coated steel rounds on the market that are pricey but some like them. I just think the steel ammo is a little too heavy for this launcher and that the aluminum is just the right weight.

Agreed. There is a video out there by RastaFish Ballistics where he took these aluminum balls to the body. Yes they hurt but it wasn’t enough to stop him from advancing. Head and neck is something no one will be willing to take especially at point blank range.

@@NathanPayne-z2p I like that aluminum still hits hard from 20 feet, at least hard enough to put nice dents in hard metal. But going from 1.8g to 5.4g is a big jump. I would probably have to use point blank shots but I'm sure steel would win there.

I enjoy your videos, but this particular launcher, I don't think it will do anything to deter home invader thugs wearing hoodies with tshirts underneath, gloves and surgical masks. On a side note, I just purchased a glock 34 today and will pick it up after 10 day waiting period. I just tried out my Mossberg 590 Retrograde last week at the range with 00 buck, it has a serious kick lol.

I want to get another Glock firearm or two, especially subcompact models. Just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I agree the T4E is mainly for muscle memory and practice but there are lots of people outside the USA who are limited to 7 Joules and they want to see this launcher. So I do a little bit of everything. Up close it is a non-lethal alternative.
