It's as "original" a Macintosh as you're gonna get without finding one "new in box" forgotten in the back of the storeroom of an original dealer. The Macintosh not only changed text-based computing to graphical interface computing and put the mouse into public awareness, but it also introduced "the rest of us" to the wonder of a variety of fonts! Before the Mac, we were all stuck with whatever had been established as the "system" font. These could occasionally be modified through low-level program control, but such modifications usually couldn't be reproduced in another program.

I love the personal take on this one, Joe! These old Macs are always *personal* to those who own them. I have a "European" 128K (M0001P -- 240V), built in Fremont, CA in late May 1984. (As far as I've been able to find out, shipments to Europe began in April, so this is an early one). The board is completely unmodified and also has the "Macintosh" only badge on the back (not Macintosh 128K). Happy 40th Mac! :-)

I got a Mac Plus after having an Apple II. I got an educational discount plus I bought it during boxing week for additional savings. The one megabyte of memory was mind blowing for the time. Later I got a scsi hard drive & the speed was incredible!

I saw the 1984 Mac commercial in a movie theater once in the mid eighties before the movie ran. I think the movie was “Oh God You Devil”. It was so strange because I thought the movie had started. Then the voiceover said “On January 1984, Apple will introduce Macintosh” which shocked me because the family had an Apple IIe at home that I loved and it was already late 1984! I had never heard of this new computer! It was so hard to get any information back then as a kid. 😊

"One classic Mac is all you need." I thought these were like any other vintage computer where you employ the Pokémon thought process: "Gotta [get] 'em all!" j/k Great video, Joe!

Great story. I bought a 128K Mac in February 1984. I subsequently upgraded it to a 512K, added a third-party SCSI port, and finally upgraded it to what by then was a very expensive Mac Plus (around $4500 counting all the upgrades on top of the original $2500). I sold it to a friend in the late eighties, so I have no idea what became of it-or for that matter the original back when I got the Plus upgrade. It's easy to understand your difficulty getting an original back. Question: How were you able to shoot video of the screen without any flicker?

Thanks! I got rid of the flicker by using an app that allows me to change the exposure time and frame rate.

@@JoesComputerMuseum So it's a post-processing thing that fixes what you shot?

@@marklsimonson Nope. It's recorded properly in-shot.
