This UmeNice umbrella is a vastly superior quality brolly supplied packed in a lined case and is a complete contrast to most of those available on the High Street. It feels chunky, sturdy and solid and it looks good too, especially with its polished wood-effect automatic opening/closing button. The chunky, silicone-rubber coated handle is comfortable to hold and easy to grip, even with a wet hand and it felt warm to the touch.
The umbrella is fully automatic with a fast and smooth mechanism which, when pressing on the up-arrow shoots it up with a speedy whoosh and it locks into position ready for use then, pressing on the down-arrow collapses it down again. The last step of re-engaging the stem has to be completed manually - a quick push to lock it back into position taking a whole 3 seconds and then it’s ready for use again.
It collapses down to a compact 29cm and weighs 410g. Compared with the telescopic brollies of the High Street and supermarkets, this is neither the most compact nor lightest-weight umbrella and probably not one to carry in a handbag - but it is a quality umbrella which offers real protection from heavy, driving rain rather than just a light shower which is all the typical flimsy handbag brolly can cope with. Instead, this umbrella is going to keep you dry and comfortable while the others fail or fall apart.
The materials used are a superior quality too, with its canopy formed from a fine, soft and smooth polyester coated in Teflon along with steel and fibreglass ribs for strength, rigidity and support. Should it ever blow inside-out in a gale, which is less likely that with other brollies, then bringing it down by pressing the down button will enable the ribs to correct themselves then the up arrow will open it out again.
The umbrella opens out into a large 97cm canopy, large enough to keep both you and a companion dry. It also provides rain protection not only for the user's head and shoulders but the full body right down to the feet. Also, because it is suitably domed in shape, the rain lands on it then falls off in contrast to some of the more flimsy High Street brollies which are relatively flat so the rain pools on the top, dips and then seeps through! Anyone using this won’t care if it’s raining, or how heavy it is because they’re not going to get wet.
Build quality is notably good too. The push-button mechanism which sends it up with a whoosh is powerful and, once up, it is sturdy, supported by 9 ribs rather than just 8 as seen on many other brollies, and these often quickly reduce to to 6 or 7 as the ribs become detached from the flimsy fabric, then serve to poke those unfortunate enough to be nearby. This umbrella is far more polite, user-friendly and in a different league to the rest and this will be seen the first time it is used in real, traditional Great British rain!
I doubt anybody really enjoys going out in the rain, particularly the amount of rain we've been seeing in the UK this winter, but knowing you're going to stay dry makes it a less miserable experience.
This is a really good quality and well-designed umbrella and one which is going to enjoy a lot of use year-round in the UK climate!
