Nothing beats an Umphreys show! Could they make AMAZING look anymore easy and free form? Thank the lord they found each other.
@sneakonproductionz9 жыл бұрын
heyspeed its not as free form as it looks.... they use ear pieces to talk to eachother and the light dude and count it off.... they cheat I have met them and they told me... still love them and they crush but you can kinda tell when its really jamming.... they used to say that their jimmy stewarts were sort of written then they stopped saying that.... either they stopped or didnt like the way it sounded in the jam community

sneakonproductionz I've heard a number of time it's based on signals. Watched the Jako interview for Miles of Music with Bob Miles and he talks about their hand signals and all that. I'd like to believe that they've developed enough chemistry over the years to jam without using ear pieces, and I do.
@sheltma15959 жыл бұрын
sneakonproductionz explain how that is cheating exactly? Even in jamming, if you are going to change chords or keys, you have to let everyone know, or its a train wreck. Sometimes you can do that within the music with a scale climb or a known transition sequence, but not always. Some kind of signal is needed, weather a hand signal system or verbal. It's not cheating. There are no rules, and in music there is no such thing as cheating. All that matters it what gets delivered to the audience.

I was literally quoting joel when I hung out with them backstage in NY

sneakonproductionz I have also read/heard the same thing, but it's still 95% improvised. The only time its usually written out is when they want to test a new song in development, like they did with Cut the Cable and Ocean Billy for years and years without naming it as a song.

A set for the ages. 1348 from the first set is the best jam of the night imo.

Man all this 20-20 silliness makes me wish I showed up to everyone of my 57 shows early and didn’t take too much too fast at some of them! Can’t wait to be immersed with all of you maskless umphreaks once again 🤘

At the show I thought Bayliss ever the joker seemed to be actually teasing 80s smash hit 99 Luftballons by furry armpitted German one hit wonder Nena at 31:10 - 34:30ish? I still hear it as well...Bueller???
