I’ve got the Cold Steel Drop Forged knives to throw. I haven’t thrown them yet as they’re still new to me. I have to Drop Forged Boot knife, Survivalist and Hunter. They’re cool Cold Steels. Solid as a rock too.

I like opening packages, especially if they contain Cold Steel stuff. And I LOVE their Tanto Point blades! All 3 of my machetes, 4 of my folders, and 4 of my fixed blades are Cold Steel Tanto Point blades! I did own a Kobun, but I sold it. I now own a GI Tanto, Recon Tanto San Mai 3 (made in Japan), 5 1/2 inch Warcraft Tanto 4034SS, and a 12 inch Warcraft Tanto XL 4034SS. I enjoy them all! From a fellow man from the country, good video!

The Recon tanto is my favorite camping bushcraft knife. It is a great batoning knife and after a year of use on lots of wood It is still sharp! I like it even more than my SRK SK5. I also have the magnum Tanto in CPM-3V which is absolutely stunning but it isn't 4 times better! Good choice and happy bushcrafting!

By the way, I filed down a bit of the spine to remove the coating and get a sharp square edge for ferrocerium rod fire starting. But it wasn't necessary because the spine came already sharp even with the paint. I also found the Recon spine great for scraping fatwood for fire starting.

I'm like you waiting for the delivery man after ordering on line. I love the Kobun and that was my last purchase as a replacement to one I gave to my son. SRKs and the SRK-C are my other favorites. Cold Steel sells great knives. Merry Christmas.

Sounds like you're like me and really appreciate Cold Steel Tantos. I would like to suggest for a folder, the Voyager XL Tanto. It's a very good pocket carry. I really like mine. I've got a Recon Tanto in Carbon V steel from the 90's. That is equivalent to the SK5 steel. Awesome blades.

I've had mine since the early 80's. Back when they where still made in the USA,and made out of Carbon V steel. Its a great knife.

Seems like a great knife for stabbing and slashing - the challenge is carrying it. I have a 12” machete that I made pointy, that is my big knife for driving out of town and being outdoors. Otherwise my knives are smaller like a Mora basic. I wonder about having a big knife for when I won’t carry the small machete.

Super strong knife. I couldn't brake it after beating the heck out of it. Just needs a better grind angle to slice better. It's more compact that the GI tanto

Cold Steel puts grease on all their carbon steel blades to prevent rusting of the exposed edge. I usually just wipe it off and not worry about any residue getting in the sheath. Love the Cold Steel Tanto knives. The American style Tanto was developed by Cold Steel decades ago. I don’t think there is a better Tanto on the market than the ones made by Cold Steel. I was actually carrying my Magnum Tanto II today. I really enjoy your excitement for Cold Steel Tanto knives. It took me quite a few years to get to the point that I have the luxury to spend money on the knives I’ve always drooled over. I hope you can get to the same place a lot sooner than I did.

Morning buddy. Being as thick as it is, it will likely do the job of your hatchet in many cases. I'm curious how it stacks up for camp tasks. Hacking down saplings, splitting firewood etc. I know you said you want to avoid abusing it, but that's exactly what it's made for to my eye. There's no reason to have a spine that thick unless you intend on beating the snot out of it. I'd keep the smaller tanto in razor blade condition for tasks that require more control/smaller blade. Like dressing game, whittling etc.

Sk5 is a Japanese low/mid-range Carbon steel. It’s used in a wide range of tools (Razor blades, utility knives, scalpel blades, long edged tools, cutting tools) due to its workability, hardenability, price, and other features.

Merry Christmas!! Nice catch!! Fyi, it's a High Carbon Steel. Please be sure to wipe the blade clean after use, high carbon tends to rust. It's a trade off for Strength and durability. I love my Recon Tanto!! Brothers, Victornishimoto2020

One thing you can do is add an Ulticlip or Discreet Carry Concepts pocket clip to make it even better than the Kobun sheath. You’d just have to take off the original belt piece

You can break those knives. But not under normal use. JOEX destroys ColdSteel blades and other high end names. Even Cold Steel CPM3V blades.

Yep ole Joe is the nuclear torture tester haha. It’s been a while since I did this review and I’ve come to quite another few of the cold steel recon. The over molded handles come loose and I’m not a huge fan of that
