I understand that it's the club that have activated a year's extension that is part of Unai Emery's existing contract. So this isn't a new contract. However, I understand that a new long-term contract will be negotiated in the off-season during the summer. Either way, the club is showing their commitment to Unai Emery, and it stops the rumours of him going to Bayern Munich, or any other club. Anyway, this is obviously great news, which hopefully will get even better in the next few months. UTV

Fantastic news however... It doesn't really change much if a Barcelona or Real Madrid come in...The only thing I would say is, that Emery seems to prefer enhancing teams who aren't probably up at the top yet, unlike those two and Bayern. Hopefully, as we all think, he is an honourable man and wants to see the project through to its finale..... but football is a fickle sport

I bet there is a huge buy out clause.... I pray Uni stays and even extends over the next 18 months ....there will be several huge European teams wanting him and if we get Champions league and challenge next year or the season after it will be like a pack of wolves at the gates of Villa Park....if we clear the players out we don't want and get 2 or 3 players we need we can challenge for the title over the next couple of seasons....VTID
