UNBELIEVABLE Home Makeover for Injured Teen & His Resilient Family | George to the Rescue

In this episode of ‘George to the Rescue’: a thoughtful kitchen, living room, and bedroom renovation for Isaac Lima - a remarkable teen with unwavering perseverance who sustained a spine cord injury while performing a flip during cheer practice - and his loving & supportive Brazilian family. So much gratitude for all the experts who poured their time, energy, and hearts into this project, including Magnolia Home Remodeling, Campbell Minister Design, Kitchen & Baths by Anthony Pagano, and Mobility Works! These necessary upgrades, which includes two vertical platforms lifts to allow Isaac to enter and exit with ease, will not only make the house more accessible to him, but also offer him newfound independence and a better quality of life as he continues inspiring people around the world with his kindness and can-do spirit, and training with Project Walk in NJ.

How Isaac came to be in a wheelchair is tragic. But he is not bitter, rude or angry. He has a plan for what he wants to do in the future. He wants to be a productive member of society. And I couldn’t imagine him not reaching a goal. He is so fortunate to be born into the family that is his. His parents have raised smart, polite and compassionate children. Well done to them . Raising children is the hardest job that you will ever do right. Clearly they have the blueprint on lockdown. They are all so deserving. And so greatful. This video makes my heart happy. Did you redo the bathroom? I would think it would also be hard for the young man to get in and out of the bathroom. The kitchen and the living room and the bedroom are gorgeous. Thank goodness they got him a better lift for coming and going. Great job George and crew. God bless.

That's a kid with drive!!! (No pun intended!) It's great to see such generosity, with the way the world is often portrayed these days. 1 million %!!! I am not trying to knock what all these people did for this family; however, I will make a few points which, perhaps, could be considered by this program, in the future and/or by anyone planning to do a remodel for a residence that has someone in a wheelchair: I have to wonder why the microwave wasn't installed at the countertop level? Additionally, there are upper cabinets available which can be lowered electronically. Using this type of cabinet would have enabled Isaac to reach a lot more; remember he is still improving. All the lower units would have been better as drawers. Not only would it be beneficial to Isaac, but it would also allow the maximum use of the space with better access to everything for everyone.

I am always conflicted about retrofitting a home not designed for wheelchairs. As much as a family may wish to stay in a specific house or neighborhood it makes so much more sense to move to a single floor home where it can be truly barrier free. Cannot imagine that this house is a long term solution which may be why the rescue was relatively mild in this case. I hope it was done with the idea that Isaac will soon move out on his own or that the family will transition to a more practical home in the years ahead.

It’s a “Master Bedroom.” The Sears catalog, in the northern city of Chicago, first called it a master bedroom 5 or 6 decades after slavery. So, there is no PC reason to call it a primary or principle bedroom.

In house plans, it's labelled the Primary Bedroom. Simple, and has no PC reason behind it. Doing away with calling it a Master bedroom has nothing to do with slavery, but everything to do with reality. Historically the Master of the house was the male, the person to be obeyed. Well, the head of the home can be a woman, and a functional family takes all people into consideration as decision makers, so get rid of the master idea and label it as the primary, as in the primary owner of the home.

I remember when Hurricane Ike came rolling through. In Galveston we did not have power for 3 weeks. People need to be calm and let Center Point do their job. Storms like these cannot be prepared for. Those huge towers holding the lines- I am sure there is not a facility big enough in Houston to house a few hundred towers waiting for that one storm that rips it all up. Center Point can only be prepared with manpower and parts to put the towers back together. All those complaining about the heat.... think about how it was for those of us that grew up without AC. Maybe all the air conditioner babies need to relive the days of no AC so they can prepare themselves for the days that the storms hit. Houston and surrounding areas will come through.
