All these food companies are having our pants down with there inflated prices, poor products, also I've noticed on a lot of product that they've lowered the grams by 5-10% without saying a thing, if they increased it by 10% they would make a song and dance about it on the packaging.

This is one of my biggest pet hates a ton of packaging for not a lot of actual product only for the main product to be potentially cheeped out on in some cheap cuts with onion & other fillers. Although I am thinking of trying them but with most things I'm unsure if its just me with did taste buds or something else in trying to find that certain something in burgers from the supermarkets as I'm thinking of checking out one of the local butchers near me to see if they offer something.

For a start, the price. I buy Aldi Oakhurst brand frozen beefburgers with onion for £1.89. For that price you get 6 tasty burgers. But it was only near the end of the video that I realised that there is only 5% Japanese wagyu beef in the Iceland burgers. They are overpriced.

Another review I missed due to being in hospital. Wagyu beef is graded in the UK based on how it's bred. Proper 100% Wagyu would not be used in burgers due to the cost, it's very, very expensive. How can I explain it? It's like if you breed a pure bred Dalmatian dog with a Golden Retriever and the puppies have spots. They aren't really Dalmatians. The way Wagyu meat is graded is very complicated, so I steer clear of steaks in the UK claiming to be Wagyu. If it were really Wagyu, it would cost a fortune.

better bite from some Aberdeen Angus beef burgers me think. I got Wagyu burgers once and i had the exact same reaction. I felt that for the price they were a let down. Can't go wrong with a bit of Wagyu steak if you can afford it though but Wagyu beef doesn't make great burgers. The intermuscular fat is just too much so you pay for Wagyu burgers but like you said. You're likely getting regular beef with a small % of Wagyu otherwise the burget would just melt apart. Horses for courses and i think the Aberdeen Angus wins the burger race.

I think you have to cook Wagyu more delicately. With such a high percentage of fat, you're going to get a lot of shrinkage if it's allowed to render down. The fat content is the whole point of Wagyu, so cooking it off defeats the purpose.

10% fat mince, salt pepper( U can add Tabasco or Worcester sauce) roll some in a ball in your hands to get the fat to mold to the meat, then put some cling down and put the ball of mince on it and cover with more cling. Get a side plate and push down until u get the thickness u want. Always lift with a fish slice or spatula, never handle the raw burgers after or they will come apart and put into the pan using a fish slice or spatula. Cook on one side until slightly over brown and then cook a little less on the other side. The result is perfect burgers without the additives.

To be fair the selling point of wagyu beef is it's texture and taste as an actual steak, so the idea of selling it as a minced up burger seems like a way to cash in on the parts of the cows you can't sell as steak. It's probably pretty much the same as any other beef burger.

Additionally, you lose a lot of fat frying anything like that. Should keep beef fat to fry other things in or for roasting. Or eventually tallow candles if it gets too unpleasant to use for frying. Not difficult to render it so it keeps well

@@BaldFoodieGuy sorry I think I edited that after you replied, but rendering beef fat so it doesn't go rancid is very easy and worth doing if you don't do a lot of frying. Looking at this, i'm struggling with why Wagyu beef is considered to be a better quality than something like Aberdeen Angus. I've done the maths again and this works out at a 68.70% of the original weight or 31.30% loss in weight from raw to cooked. While i'm sure you could use the rendered out fat for cooking something, i can't help but think that even cheap 20% fat mince would be better value for money. I hope there is someone out there that can explain to the rest of us about Wagyu beef in more detail.
@danimayb

Wagyu is a breed of cattle native to Japan. The fat takes on a different texture with it's marbling through the tissues and is softer, has a lower melting point and contains more omega fatty acids which in turn gives great flavour. This is why it's considered a delicacy and carries a price tag to match! But god knows how you can call these burgers Wagyu with a very small percentage of 'probably' just Wagyu fat mixed in with cheap beef mince lol

I've never bought a pre-made burger that tastes better than just spending £2.50 on 500g of 20% fat minced beef, forming it into 4 burgers and generously covering them in salt and pepper. Cheap and tasty. Cheesy slices belong on a burger but use some Stilton if you want to make them posh

Shocking how much oil and fat that came out of them especially at that crazy price. I always buy the 4 pack 1/4lb Aberdeen Angus burgers 99% Angus beef very little oil comes out . Love your honest assessment

You should do the tinned burgers in gravy from Asda, they probably have more going for them than the £5 a pack frozen stuff😂

I've tried the Westlers tinned burgers once and they were disgusting. I didn't even finish the one I heated up and threw the rest in the bin.

Westlers are more well known for their range of hot dogs. They are remarkably unpleasant as well.

This is what we feed our dogs when we have BBQs, can't afford to feed them the real thing but it goes nice in a bread bun with a bit tomato sauce, they don't know the difference.

Found these in my local Co-op. Just picking up the box says it all. Not much more than half full.

Good video again. Think I'd have set the fat aside and glazed the burgers with small amount of cranberry sauce or ham. But really a high end burger shouldn't need anything adding to it. Not even for "slippage" 🤔🤔.

I’m afraid Iceland meat isn’t ever going to be premium . I bought two wagyu burgers from M&S last week and they shrunk a little bit but were a lot bigger and juicier than these. Personally, I am lucky enough to say that I don’t like to skimp when it comes to buying meat and sea food, I know it’s not always possible in these times..

I had them and found them to be far too expensive. They were yummy and I agree with you that normal Birds eye burgers have the same or similar taste for me. They are a treat but a once in a life time treat. I can't see me paying that much money again for any burgers. As for all the fat don't waste it. Add onions and bacon and add to the burger. Another great video.

I find with those type of burgers you have to sear them first then slow fry them. However in reality who actually does that. And it won’t change the cheap taste the onion gives it. Best part was definitely you fighting with the breaking in the pan. Good show👌

The burgers did look rather mushy looking, not very appetising tbh! Think I'll give these ones a miss. Hope you all have a great easter weekend Gareth. 👍🏻
