There's no damn excuse not to wear a seatbelt. Anyone who knowingly says that they don't need to wear one is not getting any of my sympathy when they end up in a near fatal accident.

It's interesting, some years ago I would take a friend of mine to work a couple times out of the year and he would always ride in the back seat and never wear his seat belt even though I insisted that he did. He asked me why it mattered once when it's his life in danger, and I told him if we crash I don't want him killing me by flying into me. Would have been nice at the time to have a video like this showing exactly how that happens.

Definitely a wake-up call. I drive for Uber. I tell people to please put on their seat belts but never check to see if they do. I do listen for the click. But definitely will pay attention, especially to the person sitting behind me. Because people are money hungry. They will sue you for wrecking. But if I get hurt because you aren't wearing your seatbelt? You better believe I'm coming after you with a lawsuit. I have a camera so it is all recorded.

@andrewburgemeister6684
@andrewburgemeister6684 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of accidents actually happen pretty close to home or to a destination you’re going to on a road trip, people just don’t understand the risks when they say “Oh, I’m just ducking down to the shops” or “We’re nearly there” when they’ve been driving for more than 2 hours without taking a 15-minute break. Have a break every two hours and wear your goddamn seatbelts!

@andrewburgemeister6684
@andrewburgemeister6684 2 жыл бұрын
I heard it's common for little kids to do that (not sure if I did), a gentle explanation of how you can get in trouble by the police or potentially badly hurt others in a crash usually fixes the issue. I would also recommend checking if the belts are comfortable for them, they should not be too tight or uncomfortable to wear.

@@ric84 don’t do that in heavy traffic though as that’s dangerous to other road users. Just pull over and say “We’re not moving until the seatbelt goes back on and stays on.” Also carry through warnings of a punishment/something taken away if they still act up as you need to carry through with taking something away or giving time out if they keep acting up. They usually get the memo after that.
@ric84
@ric84 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewburgemeister6684 Yes that's one way to do it. However i have seen my method in practise and it works brilliantly and only takes a split second. The son of a friend of mine used to have this habit. Verbal reprimands only resulted in the little bastard learning how to unbuckle himself very quietly. One day when i was in the car with them he wasn't stealthy enough and unbuckled himself while we hadn't even left the parking lot. Seeing how we were only going about 5mph this was the perfect oppertunity to teach him that those who do not want to hear must feel. One sudden involuntary trip into the footwell later suddenly made him quite aware of the fact that seatbelts exist for a reason.

I can’t stop assure the people I know how important is the seat belt 🤕 just two months ago my mum had crushed on a street lamp face to face by her new car accidentally! I have trained her and taught her that the first thing when you ride a car is to fasten your seat belt ... and thanks God she always do that... on that day if she didn’t put her seat belt she would’ve jumped from the windshield by the tremendous deceleration 💔 Thanks to the airbags also! She totally came out of the car safe and we didn’t even need to visit the hospital 🏥. By the way the car was totally lost 🤕💔

There's still some states in the US that don't require rear seatbelt usage for passengers over 16, 17, or 18, these are Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia which I don't know whether to be shocked by or amazed at. Some of these states only have secondary enforcement which means cops can't pull you over and fine you for the seatbelt violation alone unless you had another enforcement issue such as a broken taillight or speeding. The state of New Hampshire is the only US state where adults aged over 17 are not required to wear seatbelts regardless of seating position.

There's an easier way to convince a kid to wear a seatbelt (make sure you do it on an empty road, like a back street or an empty parking lot) Accelerate up to about 15-20kph, then when the kid is distracted slam the brakes as hard as you can, he'll probably go flying forward into the seat infront, and from that day onward, the seatbelt will be the first thing he goes for when he gets into the car It worked on me when I was a kid, my dad did that to me when I was 8, and it's been an unbreakable habit ever since

I live in New Hampshire, the one state where adults aren't required to buckle up.

I've done at least 750K miles driving in cars, trucks, taxis, minivans, limos, and minibuses, buckled up since 1972. Rear-ended three times while buckled with only stiff muscles and a small cut on my forehead from a steering wheel. So, I have proved Newton's Laws of Motion to myself. Why buckle up? Well, physics. I carried some teens for awhile for a parent. I would not start until I heard their clicks in the rear. If I heard an un-click I would pull over and wait until I heard a click again. This sometimes turned a 10 minute ride to over a half an hour trip. I said that I didn't need +400 pounds of teenagers in the front seat with me. Yes, they were not going into a scientific fields.

But the unbelted dummy would probably have faced far more other injuries in addition, such as to the chest and the head. It would be safest if there were airbags in the back seat

This video is exactly what happened to me. After hitting a tree, two rear-seat UNBELTED passengers ended up with their heads on the center console and I got stuck in the driver's seat.

I'd rather have some pretty bad whiplash and not be able to turn my head for a few days than my entire face being smashed + potentially injuring the driver.

So this video demonstrates that without a seatbelt you’ll smash your face against the front seat, but with the seatbelt on, the G-force will you’ll snap your cervical spine... hmmm... 🤔

I was in a car crash without a seatbelt once. I was in the back seat and we were traveling in a Toyota 2003 solora going 60mph(speed limit) in the country side at 10pm when guy in an F150 ford didn't see us and decided to make a quick left turn to come onto the highway and we hit the front left side of his truck where the tire and bumper are. Everything went in slow motion and i even wondered if i was gonna die and thinking about my mother and little brother and how they would feel about us leaving at such a bad time, i even thought about what it would be like to wake up in my spirit after death, while thinking of this i also had thought about needing to protect my head from being bumped around since its the most important of the body and i held my head with my hands and cushioned the blows i got to the side of my head; i had been jolted up about a foot from my seat and then rocked to the left hitting the side plastic where the small window meets and then jolted to the right; After that i saw how my brother and cousin in the front seats where aching and i was in fact the only one without any hard hurt surprisingly, we were all fine but they had headaches, i only had a streak of light in the way of my eyesight which was scary but only lasted about 10 minutes. Anyway thats what happened that day. Its long but for anyone who reads it ,its educational.

I agree that everyone should wear their seatbelt, even in the rear seat. However, that drivers seat collapsed way too easily, it really should have been built much sturdier

Sadly, people have developed new ways not to buckle up - use a loose belt hook always on so the vehicle never gives the seat belt warning.

A family member didn't want to put on their seat belt on. I refused to move the car until they did. They were stubborn enough that they got out of the car. I never gave them a ride anywhere again. Never ever capitulate to stupid.

I put my seatbelt on wherever I sit in the car. I sure wish I could say the same for school buses because school buses should have seatbelts as well. But school buses don’t have seatbelts. Seatbelts sure do save lives.

What I really, really hate is when you ride in an Uber or Lyft car and the driver owner carefully hides all the seat belts or fails to check them for ease of grabbing. It gets worse when the driver gets impatient and wants to driver while I am still struggling to find his hidden belts only for him to be pissed off that I left his belts exposed. In my province, taxi passengers can be fined $125 for failure to use a seat belt.
