A lot of accidents actually happen pretty close to home or to a destination you’re going to on a road trip, people just don’t understand the risks when they say “Oh, I’m just ducking down to the shops” or “We’re nearly there” when they’ve been driving for more than 2 hours without taking a 15-minute break. Have a break every two hours and wear your goddamn seatbelts!

I heard it's common for little kids to do that (not sure if I did), a gentle explanation of how you can get in trouble by the police or potentially badly hurt others in a crash usually fixes the issue. I would also recommend checking if the belts are comfortable for them, they should not be too tight or uncomfortable to wear.

@@andrewburgemeister6684 Yes that's one way to do it. However i have seen my method in practise and it works brilliantly and only takes a split second. The son of a friend of mine used to have this habit. Verbal reprimands only resulted in the little bastard learning how to unbuckle himself very quietly. One day when i was in the car with them he wasn't stealthy enough and unbuckled himself while we hadn't even left the parking lot. Seeing how we were only going about 5mph this was the perfect oppertunity to teach him that those who do not want to hear must feel. One sudden involuntary trip into the footwell later suddenly made him quite aware of the fact that seatbelts exist for a reason.

Some of these states only have secondary enforcement which means cops can't pull you over and fine you for the seatbelt violation alone unless you had another enforcement issue such as a broken taillight or speeding. Rear-ended three times while buckled with only stiff muscles and a small cut on my forehead from a steering wheel. So, I have proved Newton's Laws of Motion to myself. Why buckle up? Well, physics. I carried some teens for awhile for a parent. I would not start until I heard their clicks in the rear. If I heard an un-click I would pull over and wait until I heard a click again. This sometimes turned a 10 minute ride to over a half an hour trip. I said that I didn't need +400 pounds of teenagers in the front seat with me. Yes, they were not going into a scientific fields.

I was in a car crash without a seatbelt once. I was in the back seat and we were traveling in a Toyota 2003 solora going 60mph(speed limit) in the country side at 10pm when guy in an F150 ford didn't see us and decided to make a quick left turn to come onto the highway and we hit the front left side of his truck where the tire and bumper are. Everything went in slow motion and i even wondered if i was gonna die and thinking about my mother and little brother and how they would feel about us leaving at such a bad time, i even thought about what it would be like to wake up in my spirit after death, while thinking of this i also had thought about needing to protect my head from being bumped around since its the most important of the body and i held my head with my hands and cushioned the blows i got to the side of my head; i had been jolted up about a foot from my seat and then rocked to the left hitting the side plastic where the small window meets and then jolted to the right; After that i saw how my brother and cousin in the front seats where aching and i was in fact the only one without any hard hurt surprisingly, we were all fine but they had headaches, i only had a streak of light in the way of my eyesight which was scary but only lasted about 10 minutes. Anyway thats what happened that day. Its long but for anyone who reads it ,its educational.

I put my seatbelt on wherever I sit in the car. I sure wish I could say the same for school buses because school buses should have seatbelts as well. But school buses don’t have seatbelts. Seatbelts sure do save lives.

What I really, really hate is when you ride in an Uber or Lyft car and the driver owner carefully hides all the seat belts or fails to check them for ease of grabbing. It gets worse when the driver gets impatient and wants to driver while I am still struggling to find his hidden belts only for him to be pissed off that I left his belts exposed. In my province, taxi passengers can be fined $125 for failure to use a seat belt.

I’m sitting in the back of a Jeep right now and I my seat belt is on, but if we have a frontal collision I will crack my skull on the speaker pod which is four inches from my forehead. Better lean sideways.
