"unbiased" lol.. compared to every other review out there, the pixel image quality on this video looks suspiciously poor in a lot of pics. You either had an outdated camera version running on you unit, or somehow managed to ruin it when everyone else has been publishing great results.

As someone who takes landscape photography way more. I love Pixel offers more dynamic range. You can always process it and edit it to punch the contrast afterward if it looks flat. It suppose to look flat to retain more information. iPhone is definitely doing a good job process the photo for you. But I like to have more space to tweak the photo myself :) Thanks for the comparison!

exactly, it makes no sense to choose a photo with less dynamic range and more contrast because you can always easily increase the contrast afterwards if you want, but you can never recover lost detail from a photo that crushes the shadows

I'm not really a fan of the "added contrast because people liked it" approach that Samsung did and now Apple. It's possible to get a relatively flat image that looks natural and has dynamic range, surely!

@@AXYZE Just judging from Arun's and Dave2D's reviews, video is not that great on pixel. It has improved, but not a lot. Apple still is a better video phone, and overall a better camera phone. But there are specifics like Dynamic Range and Zoom and Contrast Balance where pixel looks really good. Its more of a preference things now...

Main cameras are good, but video from ultrawide is absolute worst, even my S20 FE (which costs half as much and is from last year) has a lot better video from ultrawide. I'm still rocking the Pixel 2XL and I remember when I first got this phone it did not have night sight, it was pushed on as a software update. It's just gotten better with the updates. I'd like to see how these two compare in 6 to 12 months after each has a an update to two. That being said I think I might be upgrading to the Pixel 6 Pro.

This is hands down the best camera comparison format on KZbin! I wish they used a larger monitor though because a lot of the "detail" examples they point to is actually just sharpening that looks pretty bad on a 30"+ 4K monitor.

Yeah man, they talk about details, but like you said, it's actually large radius sharpening that destroys the fine details. With the evolution in sensor quality, it's definitely off-putting to see that all that matters is how photos look on the phone itself and on social media (where it's going to be downsized and heavily compressed).

Also this dude constantly kept giving points to the photo that "pops"... As long as the reviewers and customers keep preferring a crappy photo, mainstream manufacturers will keep pushing out crappy processing. Also I think there's a too heavy focus on portrait mode photos. Why, when it's literally never perfect? You can't emulate a big sensor like that, and normal mode shots look so much better and more natural. We should push manufacturers to take more care in optimizing the photo processing, as proper cameras do.

Pro tip: while Google is altering their portrait mode for the 50mp camera, you can always use the telephoto! It actually creates a much more natural unprocessed bokeh

The 12MP larger physical pixel size really helps it gather more light at low light settings, but obviously cannot capture anywhere as much detail when there is plenty of light.

Great comparison guys. Really challenging shots, I really like that you always include action or kids photos because this is such a big deal to a lot of people. On portrait shots lidar seems to make iPhone way better; Pixel can get really confused at challenging edge detection scenes (again, great scene selection to really push these cameras!). In low light it's sad to see Pixel being so much crushed by iPhone given that the Pixels were the first to introduce revolutionary night mode. It seems to me Google needs some time to adapt their algorithms to the news hardware, get feedback, and improve. It currently seems too aggressive on HDR and shadows which really ruined some shots. I will probably go with iPhone since I am due for an upgrade, and I hope it is as good as my Pixel was on action/kids shots. I would also love to have the sliders of the Google Camera app on iPhone to adjust shadows/highlights/temperature on the spot.

From the OG Pixel until about about Pixel 4, they had the best camera. Video was always behind but stills, they had it. Given this is brand new hardware/OS, it'll be interesting to see how this updates over time and improves. It probably will take them a cycle to reclaim the PQ crown

In terms of the shadow contrast, I think a middle ground between the iPhone and Pixel processing would be perfect. Good thing is that you can darken shadows in post on the Pixel, and the iPhone's images always have a lot of hidden detail in the dark shadows that can be brought up. They are both really good.

Using Pixel 6 Pro 4X telephoto for Macro and actual Portrait shots give incredible results, and most of the reviewers did not even try or thought of that, some photographers reviewing 6 Pro showcased it real well.

I feel like Pixel’s longer exposure times for night mode are a blessing and a curse, better light gathering but the potential for blur and for sensor heat to generate noise. If they had Olympus level stabilisation they could get away with it, or on a tripod, but the blur means that despite the incredible dynamic range you get it’s less pleasing than Apple or Samsung.

I Find one thing really weird. Every time you make a selfie with an iPhone, you get so much light in the background. I have an iPhone 12 and I have never had that issue. iPhone definitely took most of the night shots for me, Pixel for everything else except for some portrait (too much blur!!). It's interesting because you can apply and adjust the blur after the shot on Pixel, so that throws a wrench in the equation!!

It's. Not that pixel night mode is getting worse. It's just that pixel takes 4 second shots and if you are shooting handheld I'm pretty much sure every photo you take is going to turn out bright but soft. Cus the hand shakes , and even a slight movement in the night the photo goes blurry, Thus if you want better shots in the night just use a tripod (with the both phones) and I'm pretty much sure that the pixel will do a better job!

Don't forget you can control the amount of blur when editing portrait photos on Pixels. I do agree that the blur is too strong by default.

Pixel 6 will have a better night mode as soon as they fix the longer exposure time. They don't need it with a larger sensor. Then, Pixel will be back in the night mode throne...😉.
