Today a video about Lego set 7822 Railway Station from 1980! A nice find with all parts, but also with the complete packaging and manual. Join me when I take a closer look to this iconic set in detail!

Back in the late 70s there was an offer of an exclusive Lego set available through Weetabix breakfast cereal. It was the first time the modern posable mini-figs came out and I convinced my dad to send off for it. You probably had to send a certain amount of box tops and some money but the exact details I forget. Sadly it was over subscribed and they ran out of the new sets and after waiting an eternity a small parcel arrived with a letter informing me the set was no longer available and returning the cheque my father had sent. However the letter also stated that the attraction for the set had probably been the new posable mini-figs and as an apology 3 mini-figs were sent along with the letter. Somewhere I still have those mini-figs, the letter they were sent with and I'm fairly sure the back of the Weetabix box promoting the offer !

Yet another excellent video, love the classic sets you are showing off. I'm getting close to have a complete 12v train collection collection with most of them with the box.

2:03 Not exactly I had the updated version of supplementary set 970 and the red Station sign was upgraded to a cup of tea and a knife and falk by 1986. The Police and Taxi signs were the same. The instruction booklet has Lego Dacta themed buildings with mini figs in it. Funny enough a neighbor gave me the station sign but he only had Space Lego so possibly there is one on a Legoland space station set from 1978 or something.

@@henrysvintagetoys To tell you the truth I've never seen those flat grey pieces at that length before.

This thing is so impressive for the early 80s, one of the biggest from that time I've seen!

Yes almost 400 pieces. So quite a big set!

it's a good station, and you can easily make a station with more terminals if you want... it was iconically so during '00 it was remade, too! Set 7937 but I agree with you: the b model is better!

thanks for the extra information, I didn't know set 7937 and just looked it up. It looks much more modern and I like these older sets more because I grew up with it. I see that the side wall with cargo doors has been removed in that model 🙂

The one from Ideas Book 7777 is more of a challenge if you have enough red pieces with it's own inbuilt restaurant and snack bar.

My guess on the doors is that since they're elevated (versus the stairs) it's meant for a truck to load or unload large packages or luggage that is transported on the train. The doors can be closed when not in use so that people don't accidentally fall off the elevated part of the platform and have to use the stairs to get into or out of the station.

yes that can be a very good explanation! but it still has an unfinished feeling to me. The roof in particular could have been better for me and those bricks and doors could perhaps have served as a second floor. Anyway, these are all details that children may not be concerned with. 🙂
