The Tank God (John) and Justin are looking at another tank from The Plastic Solider Company. This time it's the turn of the Panther Ausf A With Zimmerit in 1/72nd Scale.
This medium size tank was originally intended as a replacement for the Panzer. It never managed to do that but served alongside the heavier Tiger Tanks until the end of World War II.
This miniature has been designed for easy assembly while maintaining a solid weight and feel.

The Panther became Germany's medium tank by 1944. The western allies made a wrong assumption, because the Soviets were the first to capture one and pass it to Britain for examination, and because the Germans were at first slow to manufacture and deploy the tank in 1944, that it had been intended to be a heavy tank. It WAS quite a heavy tank, with an unreasonably effective long 75mm gun. This model stands out for having zimmerit, so often avoided by model makers

Nice one, but you are wrong on the part of the exhausts. The simpler looking one belonged to the later Panther variants (G).

It belonged to early and mid Ausf A and D the Ausf G had a different shielded exhaust initially and drum style types from December 1944

The -G has a completely redesigned hull ; if that isn't right the other details are moot .

I guess there is a demand for 1/72 but I don't think I've seen it on a table since 30 years ago when it was the only thing available in toy stores and mail order took so long. Anyone?

Plenty of Scale Independent rules sets available. I play Bolt Action and Chain of Command at this scale. PSC make a great range for this. 1/72 is a very abundant and cheap scale.

1:72 is a lot cheaper than the odd proprietary wargame scales and there is vastly more available (not least from the model railway folks), most rules work just as well with 1:72 figures and vehicles (the models are just tokens after all). Its a no brainer.

@@skraal1801 1 72nd scale is much smaller. My marder iii 28mm from warlord is as big as my king tiger in 1 72 scale. So the won't work with 28mm kits. You can use them together but they would look very stupid

A nice touch is a metal 2 part barrel with brass muzzle break from Aber or RB , only a few quid depending , also Miniworld make some amazing brass 1/72 machine guns for tanks and planes .

I use Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. The detailed application brush it comes with is stellar.

No, 28mm is roughly 1/56 scale.
