so my list is pretty different from yours. It's still in the works, so please leave your thoughts! our differences are (as mentioned previously) I run a single mire, but I also run two fumes. Its cycling makes it never a dead card. I skipped on edicts and Archaeologists, I run an extra Deep Analysis, I run the full playset of Cast Down, I run 3 fangs, I skipped on agony warp, as my 4 snuff out+four cast down is an ok removal suit. Ghastly demise and vendetaa are both things I'm considering playing, but at the moment I don't run the cards. I spent my money of snuff outs already, so I'd better use em. Vendetta is very iffy for me, cuz I'm already running 3 analysis and 4 snuff out. (again, why I'm running three fangs.) Because I'm playing Snuff, I'm running the snuff out landbase: four ice tunnel, four contaminated aquifier, one mire, three swamp, six island.
@paperpauperplayer Жыл бұрын
That list sounds sweet! It's why like I said, this deck is so much fun because it's so flexible in how you can build it! I do like the double flames and 4 of cast downs. I will say that Fajalli has felt fantastic. Early game big blocker that fuels your engine is really good!

@paperpauperplayer Жыл бұрын
No specific reason. Would definitely do 4 if I wasn't running the Fallaji, but I thought it was an okay place to trim 1 for crawl from the cellar. I've also seen other lists only run 3, so it seemed like it wasn't a big deal. This is true, phrased incorrectly, I meant in the sense of its application in this deck. When it comes to its purpose, both it and thoughtscour are only in the deck for self mill purposes, making them the same. That's what I meant. But you are correct!

One small thing i would like to add for the overall video, and i say it with all my love for the channel, is that it is a little awkward or weird (at least for me) to see you on the little camera on the right while your face is down looking at the cards and never look up. I really don't think that your definition of toolbox deck is correct. Toolbox is more like a deck has the option to get pieces (eg by fetching them with cards like birthing pod) which can handle the threat at hand and thus always have the right tool for the job.
@paperpauperplayer Жыл бұрын
Huh. That does make sense. I was always told that a toolbox deck is a deck that is easily able to function with a vast selection of different cards. That the deck is structured in a way that no matter what supporting tools you put in it, it can still do its thing. Your definition definitely makes sense as well, so perhaps it's a multi-purpose definition? Or I'm just wrong. One or the other lol

As of the time of the recording of this video, literally no one was playing that card in this deck. And as of right now, it still just isn't a viable option. The deck wants as many instant and sorceries as possible to make sure you can cast your big fish as early as turn 3!

@paperpauperplayer Жыл бұрын
Please don't take this comment as me arguing with you, I just want to share my perspective and talk about it! I don't fully agree. I 5-0d with this version of the list at my LGS. I'm a highly competitive person, and although I obviously know how big of a deal being able to cast something for free is, and I am aware of the power difference between the two cards, I never struggled to play Ghastly. I am not saying you're wrong, I'm saying it's possible to be competitive without them. Especially where the moments I struggled most was when I needed to kill my opponents creature, but it was black. And that was a bad situation regardless of the card you play. It actually made me feel like I wanted to just play more Cast Downs than anything But perhaps I just haven't felt the "overwhelming power" of using the card because I don't have any. One day, whenever I do get them, perhaps I'll eat my words Yeah the artwork on the original is ugly as hell. Lmao

@@paperpauperplayer it’s a world of difference, as a brewer and someone that plays in a 1K event about every month, snuff out has won my opponents games but being able to cantrip into it and not need the extra 1 mana, LGS is perfectly fine to not have it I totally agree, but when your playing a league/bigger event, your going to need them, keep up the content
@paperpauperplayer Жыл бұрын
@colinsickels8013 I suppose that's fair. And trust me, again, I am fully aware of the strength of being able to take out a threat after tapping out. @MaximumImpactGames Жыл бұрын
I have to disagree that Ghastly demise or Vendetta are even remotely the same league as Snuff Out, there is a reason the card costs $15, and a big reason is because of the terror mirror. it is far and away the cheapest way to remove a resolved Terror, it's one of the only ways to guarantee parity against affinity as well. 0 mana is infinitely cheaper than 1 mana. The ability to tap out and still have the ability to hold up interaction is THE reason it's one of the best decks in the format. Try and kill a Terror with vendetta, and it costs 3 mana plus 5 life, or with ghastly demise, you need to have enough to play your own terrors and again, you're still paying 3 mana for the interaction, meaning a player with snuff out can do the same thing AND hold up spell pierce (which the deck typically runs 3 of), and this problem only gets exacerbated on the play because of the mana base since there is literally no way to play either Ghastly Demise or Vendetta turn 1 with your manabase. Game 1 someone plays Monastery Swiftspear against you? play your tapland and just take the 4, swiftspear is going to do more than 4 damage to you. With vendetta? you take that much damage, PLUS you're a turn back, potentially you're lower even more. With Ghastly demise? Hope you have a thought scour and a land to back it up, because you can't even hit it. If you're just playing casually, yeah, there's no need to spend money on Snuff Outs, but that card fundamentally changes the calculus of the deck. You will lose a LOT more games you could have won (especially in game 1 in the blind) if every Ghastly Demise and Vendetta was a snuff out instead.
@paperpauperplayer Жыл бұрын
Yeah I never said none of this wasn't true. Snuff Out is a phenomenal card, and I know Ghastly and Vendetta are worse, but again, if someone wants to play this deck and doesn't have the $60 to drop on the playset, these are the next best two options
@MaximumImpactGames Жыл бұрын
@@paperpauperplayer I think it's worth saying Snuff Out is as much a reason to play the deck as Monastery Swiftspear is to Burn. You could play a version without it, it won't actually be that competitive.
@paperpauperplayer Жыл бұрын
@MaximumImpactGames that I'd disagree. It's more like not having bolts, and having to use Shocks instead
@MaximumImpactGames Жыл бұрын
@@paperpauperplayer That is an apt comparison and a great example of how utterly outclassed shock is. It takes 10 shocks to kill an opponent, only 7 bolts, Shock can't kill a majority of impactful creatures in the format (augur of bolas, boarding party, jewel thief, dawnbringer cleric, kor skyfisher, thorn of the black rose) If you were playing Burn and didn't have Bolts, I absolutely would say you should play something else, it is completely uncompetitive at that point. The WB initiative/flicker deck is a good example of a deck where you can cut the expensive cards. Snuff Out is much less important there, as is Dust to Dust only being important specifically in the Affinity Matchup.

Yeah snuff out is a bit over hyped especially as the main removal spell imo. If you use 2 thats 8 life… i dont really want to pay that much life against burn or aggro, 2 mana for cast down is fine. I also dont main board deep analysis anymore either cause 4 mana is too much to if its in my hand and then hoping to mill it so i can pay 3 life… idk i just replaced it with cards i actually want to play instead of paying a bunch to try and draw the cards i need. Ive got 4 cast down, 2 edicts and 2 disfigures mainboard. And then 4 counterspell, 2 spell pierce and 2 dispel also main board. Its not even so much about the price for snuff out to me. This is one of my most expensive decks i have it in all foils and 2 different sets of expensive lands. The judgment mental note foils are like 20 bucks each but so sick lol. My white lightning homebrew also 100% foil. Synthislighzer goblins 90% foil cause there’s literally no foil mogg raider and i can never find foil kuldotha rebirths. Foil goblin tokens though haha! 90% foil caw gates with all foil gates and foil dominaria united lands, the stained glass looking full art ones. Probably 65% foil (not counting lands)on my burn deck. Id say 75% foil on instant heroic haha! That would be a good one for you to bling out considering thats your own variant.
