It's so funny because, as a Canadian, that is the kind of book binding I like and am accustomed to, but when I got a standard type of UK hardback binding for the first time I thought it was really poorly put together and the fact that the book was so stiff and made creaking noises, and I could see the glue when looking at the top and bottom of the book (as opposed to tailbands) really made me nervous 😂. I really have yet to have any of my hardback books fall apart on me so I'm sure both bindings are fine 😆.

yes, high quality hardbacks should open like that. you can read it with ease, every page opens beautifully. it shouldn't be like the new norm of stiff hardbacks "cracking" loudly when you open them.

I love that the paper is so thin and the book stays open without me having to force the pages apart like a paperback's pages. To me it actually feels like better quality because these editions won't develop a slanted spine after reading them. I wish they used this type more often. 📖📚

This is such a gorgeous edition! 🥰 I love it whenever we get the regular cover with a color change on the reverse dust jacket, that way if you don't vibe with the redesign you can switch! ☺️

i wish i was interested in this title bc this edition is so beautiful! fl did such a genuinely stunning job on the entire redesign! if only book boxes could do that kind of redesign on the books that i actually am interested in reading! 😂🙈begging orbit in particular to let book boxes go wild with redesigns for their editions! 🙏

I *love* this book (design) sm! 😭😍 I do get your point of the book being poorer quality but I do like floppy books more as they lay nicely while reading. I haven’t come around to read as many of the romantasy picks yet but I do enjoy this sub and would like to keep it in 2025.

truly SUCH a phenomenal edition!! I accidentally had myself up to 9 subs (maintained on skips and prayers alone) before cutting down a few months ago, and FL romantasy was one of two subs to make the final cut. the books are very much what i’m into & the artwork just makes it all the better 🥹 can’t realistically see myself cancelling it anytime soon unless they somehow take a massive drop in quality - but i’m predicting some amazing picks from them in 2025! 🎉

I loved this edition! I haven’t gotten mine in the mail yet. I have actually have enjoyed the romantasy picks the last few months. The hard back design was a dream on this book. I think this book must have one of the more flat boxy spines like I get on my Bookish box and Moonlight book box subs. I have gotten a few books that had to be replaced because the binding came apart.

The dust jacket and endpapers are gorgeous. What a shame that this isn't really my type of book because otherwise I would buy it for that! The quote at the back is interesting, I don't know why but it sounds weird to me.

That book is gorgeous! I may have to read reviews and see if I can get it second hand. The quality is fine - that's how books are bound in the US and it makes for a much better reading experience :) It's not going to fall apart or rip easily, promise 😁

This is absolutely spectacular. The book down to the binding I think is why you have the ability to flop the book like that x

I have literally just tested by holding one page and giving it quite a wobble and it isn’t moving at all. Those pages are bound in tight but with the type of binding I am sure this is what allows you to have the lay flat experience and if I am not wrong it is a more expensive way of binding books. I am happy to have this checked if you like my lovely xx
