The reason why you sometimes have issues with getting the paint out of the bottles is because the mixing balls block the nozzle. You don't want to point the bottles straight down, but slightly angled to prevent that issue. It's been something people have noticed since the speedpaints and if you push too hard the nozzle cap will blow off and spill paint all over.
@robpaintsminiatures7 ай бұрын
Yeah I should have caught on to that... but it has happened that the cap has blown off

I just ordered this set last week, and I should be receiving it this weekend. As a user of Citadel paints for the past 20+ years, it'll be nice to not have to throw away paint pots with dried out paints.

I wonder how long until paint companies start giving the caps the actual color of the paint for ease of reference. I know a lot of users actually do that to their lids.
@robpaintsminiatures7 ай бұрын
Frankly doubt they will because the paints are always different on a primer

"I've heard some horror stories of this box being completely ... SQUIRREL!" lol you didn't finish that story and as someone waiting on my copy sometime this week I'd like to know the rest of it. Some other points as someone who's painted for 25 years. Your right about the tones muting everything and turning it to one color. Tones have to be carefully used. Now I have sprayed the tone through an airbrush and that applies it evenly and does a better job blending the colors, it knocks down the brightness and blends colors without totally muting them. To do that by regular brush means thinning it perfectly and I rather have an airbrush do that. To use a 6 paint triad you would be doing very thin strokes midway through and some of those paints would be used in very small subtle strokes. As you started hinting to. In most cases a 3 paint triad is enough. I would typically break these triads in two and only use a full 6 paint triad when I'm going to paint something at the highest detail and I'd be planning ahead. As you saw doing that out the box on a whim is a challenge. You did well all things considered. There is also always a piece looks terrible midway and then some steps down the road it comes together. Your dry palette makes me thing of Mad Max road warrior lol. Great job and thanks for giving a good demo of these paints in action!

Yeah my ADHD really got me there... even re-watching the video afterwards I was like "crap I forgot to continue the story"... so here it is... I have seen and heard stories of the bottles not being as neat and tidy as my box was... the paints were all mixed up, the bottles not in dividers... etc. However, I sometimes wonder if people did that to get views and like and so on. I will have another video coming soon where I will actually apply the purple tone to this cloak and frankly it turns out way better... I will also test another 6 colours of a range on another cloak and I am way more aware of the brush strokes. Thank you for this great comment. Hope you are subscribed. May the paints be with you, Always!

@@robpaintsminiatures somebody willing to wing it with a 6 paint triad definitely deserves a sub, so you earned mine. Actually when I got the complete set for air and speed paint they were all over the box, and the speed paint one looks like it was punted to my door. So messy wouldn't be off brand for Army Painter. Another technique that would work well is glazing. When you have stark highlights glazing with the darker color below tones down the highlight and leads to smooth blends. Great on capes. Looking forward to more vids!

If you prime grey and zenithal white if you paint with normal opaque paint like Fanatic acrylic won’t it cover up all the work the zenithial did or will the zenithal still show through the opaque colors?
@robpaintsminiatures7 ай бұрын
Well funny that you ask, I'm currently testing a blue triad on top of zenithal highlight because I think the same thing... that the Paint will simply cover up the base coat and not make it worth the time
@ZeehcTunococ7 ай бұрын
Zenithal definitely has more impact with transparent paints like contrast or speed paint. With regular acrylic, I still use zenithal to have an idea on how light would fall on the miniature.
@robpaintsminiatures7 ай бұрын
@@ZeehcTunococ yeah when I tested out more skin tones on one of the minis with a zenithal highlight I used the darker skin tone where the black paint was very dominant, then the mid colour for where the light and dark areas meet and then the brightest colour for the white areas (brightest areas)

The idea of a triad is nice for painting fast. Using all six isn’t how this “flexible” triad system is meant to be used. Triad a set of three. They don’t have to be next to each other. Skip one or two to aid in the atmosphere. Next use color theory. It’s very simple to have a chart with you if you need it. Sorry, when you said you thought 30 minutes was a lot of time I understand… Definitely stick to five paints max. My fastest miniature in the last year was around three active hours. Sure I paint a few for my kid real quick. But if I don’t have at least three hours into a model then it’s likely not worth keeping it around. You might want to review your dry brushing technique. Try going against the “grain” perpendicular to the flow of the cloak. Otherwise you’re just blending and probably making everything dull and gritty. Awesome if that’s what you want though… I just got this set in a day or two ago. I’ve yet to do much. My biggest suggestion, besides don’t use all six, is to make sure you used a lot of medium. Sure 30% water is “fine” even for master painters. But if you can afford it, really try and go all in on some different mediums! Good luck on your painting journey! Great job overall!
@robpaintsminiatures7 ай бұрын
3 hours on a miniature is not for me... I have hundred upon hundreds of grey shame from many board games that I need to get painted (well want to get painted) that I can't see myself taking 3 hours on a single miniature. Plus my ADD will kick in so fast and I will get bored and burnt out by painting the same miniature for so long... but to each their own. I know the "flexible" triad is for you to choose 3 colours in the range and use those but I wanted to show what it is to use all 6 and as for my dry brushing... yeah I caught on to that mistake too afterwards but it blended it all together and turned out amazing in my opinion... I have another colour range coming soon and my dry brushing is much better and precise. Thanks for the comment and for the views... hope you are a subscriber?

didnt that set come with speed paints too? seems 1 of those and the dry would do the same thing? test?

No this box does not contain any speed paint. But yes you could easily paint with speed paints and then dry brush your highlights...

Have you noticed the last 2 colors in each colour line are very thick compared to the first 4 in each 6 colour triad?
@robpaintsminiatures7 ай бұрын
Yes I did notice that actually... they are harder to shake too and I noticed that there is often medium that comes out before the actual pigment
@OldManb19817 ай бұрын
If I had to bet the people that just get the mega set won’t notice this issue as all as the colour they get are the first few in the 6 colour line up. Not that much of an issue as I can thin it down with stabilizer. I did notice in the pink range the last one is brutal. I have to thin it down so much just to get it workable but it would take like 5 coats or so to get an even coverage. I find it odd that no one is talking about this and perhaps this issue is normal for certain colours at the end of the each Color range.
@robpaintsminiatures7 ай бұрын
@@OldManb1981 well I have yet to get through more than 2 colours so far so I have a long way to testing but I hope to test them all out and showcase them on the channel! Maybe I will run into the same issues and be able to share the solutions!
@OldManb19817 ай бұрын
Ok let Me know if you come across thick paints that is hard to thin. Check out the last paint in the pink range. Horrible lol so hard to thin
@PrzybyszzMatplanety7 ай бұрын
@@OldManb1981It is like that probably because Army Painter added a lot of white pigment to each of their paints in order to enhance coverage. That's why a lot of Fanatic colours look so desaturated. The brightest in each triad had a lot of white pigment in it, that's why you struggle with them.
