A small nit, but their scale is set to read pounds, not pounds and ounces, so 8.4 pounds is 8lb 6.4oz (0.4 * 16). So their scale is dead on with yours. Be careful on the difference between decimal pounds and pounds/ounces.

I love my 2019 Standard. The burstbuckers are brilliant for that honky PAF sound and, though I love all degrees of brown bursts, the original heritage cherry just looks like a glass of Manhattan or an Old Fashioned, pure class.

Nice find Colin. I'm a bit obsessed with guitar weight myself. I bought a new Les Paul standard 60's in 2021. It was pretty much impossible to find them under 9 pounds at the time. Mine is 9 pounds 2 ounces, has a bit of flame, ice tea burst, and excellent manufacturing. And I got it well under msrp. It's a keeper!!!

Great guitar Colin! I love my 2022 Les Paul Standard 60'. I checked the 50' too, but I prefered the neck profile of the 60'. Even though the quality is very good, my guitar tech pleked it (it's an other machine that Gibson uses and takes more time) and made a real bone nut (also made with the Plek Machine) and it made it even better. Enjoy your new Les Paul! Odd thing with your neck profile. If you like it to play, I wouldn't worry too much.

Really nice, and sounds very rich. I remember buying my first Les Paul, the Standard was just a hair more expensive than the Traditional and my inner cheapskate would not let me buy a real Standard. So I ended up with a lovey Traditional, still in love. The sound. I have a fat neck 50’s style and it’s very stable to seasonal temp and humidity changes. A solid guitar. When you have a room full of guitars the Les Paul will always be the big fat round and rich sounding guitar. You’ll know when you need it for contrast. Hard to escape it.

There are many Les Paul type guitars out there and some of them are pretty darn good, but there is something special about holding a Gibson. Seems like a really nice guitar, Colin! Enjoyed hearing the clean playing run thru - good chance to hear the 3 pick-up settings and the 'personality' of each certainly comes thru. For me the slimmer neck would be a definite plus, some 50's standards I've tried feel too chunky, but not surprising since my one and only Gibson is the 68 Custom I bought in 1974 so I'm used to the 60's slimmer neck. I get the GAS thing, I enjoy visiting various websites and stuff and seem to find something I 'must have' every week or so but have managed to 'step away' - my purchases over the Covid era have been the Epiphone 1959 & Wino (I get a discount here) and a nice Japanese made 2018 Gretsch solid body (which I got half price - a 2018 guitar is considered 'old stock' at Tom Lee here in HK!). All going well sometime in the future I'll seal the deal on that SB59/v I tried in Shenzen and then, maybe, a Pro II Strat with a rosewood neck, which is a beautiful guitar. Want, don't need 😆

That looks like a beautiful example of a guitar that would be cherished by its owner. The top is unique enough to give it solid looks and ID character and an owner fingerprint but what really caught my attention was the detail in the carving and the alignment of the pickups knobs carve even the pick guard if you so choose to reinstall it. If the neck feels good its a keeper I had a similar experience with a Tele and it was possibly the best new one that I played. The sound is real good through your Princeton which is what I use to welcome a new axe mainly because they are honest.

Gibson Les Pauls vary in weight due to the different densities in the wood. Two pieces of mahogany cut to the same shape can have vastly different weights due to differences in density. As far as the neck shape, CNC machines will carve the basic shape, but the final sanding and shaping are done by hand. Whoever worked on that neck created the final shape. BTW, there are a number of Les Pauls with asymmetrical necks including the Moderns, Traditional Pros, Classics, and a few others. I have a GT with an asymmetrical neck as well as a Trad Pro V and a recent Classic with asymmetrical necks. I think you have a keeper.

Great review Colin! Think if you are a Gibson fan then there is very little to not like about the standard whether its a 50s or a 60s they will have that sound and feel we love. Definitely a big feel difference in their necks, all down to choice and preference. I am not a fan of 3 pup guitars plenty of tone and feel from those 2 humbuckers in my view. Nut can be an issue on some especially with sticking on the G for some reason even can make them sound dead. I read put at least 5 turns on the post as that helps with the break out angle of the headstock. It works as never had issues with the G on my 60s since I started doing this. Great channel mate just what us nerds need and love! :)

I wonder if they played all of the same model back to back if there would be a noticeable tone difference due to weight? Seems like a great video sweetwater or andertons could make.

@@jamesmarkham7489 Les Paul has individual differences. There are also differences in models and parts. If it's the same model and the same pickup, I think weight has something to do with it. My favorite Les Paul is 4.2kg so I believe this is my sweet spot. I was looking for a Les Paul to replace this one, and I tried many, but each sounded slightly different.

I've had bad luck with Gibson's. Ordered a Les Paul had to send two back, the one I kept the action could be lowered only to a minimum---despite a fret leveling. Bought a CORT CR300, a Les Paul copy. Solid maple top-@ $649,changed the hardware to locking_swapped the active EMG pickups to a set of Duncan 59s. Slim neck, 8lbs.(All CR300s are consistent in weight). Best guitar I've had. Great video👍🎸

I bought a used 2020 Epiphone Classic Worn Cherry Burst as my first electric guitar after having several acoustics and I can say I was blown away!! The Epiphone does go out of tune somewhat frequently but it’s an utter joy to play. I bought mine for a little bit of a song but I’d like to see some reviews from you on Jackson, Charvel, and Schecter. Whammy and Tremolo reviews? Great stuff ✊✊

When you first pulled it out of the case I instantly assumed it was a 60"s standard. The neck was that noticeably thinner to my eyes. I believe your correctly assuming Gibson has changed the profile slightly. It's excellent mate!

Good Afternoon Colin. Good to see you as always. My first impression was how lucky you are to score such a beauty of a Gibson LP. But this business about the neck. Maybe give a call to Anderton's and see if they've had experience with this before? But I got the impression you like the way the neck feels. And every bit of that guitar is gorgeous. Take care and Cheers!

Great guitar Colin, nice top & sound! I have a 2021 60’s Standard in Iced Tea & I love it. I also have a 2004, 1960 spec Les Paul Classic with the 60´s slim taper neck and my 2021 Standard 60´s neck is definately chunkier than the Classic, not quite 50s chunky but somewhere in between I would say, and to be honest I think I now prefer it to the Classic!
