Toro makes great quality snowblowers. I will wait for your next video with a real world test. My only reservation on battery equipment is when a storm hits you are likely to lose power to your home. Having lost power for 10 days after a hurricane I was glad to have a gasoline chainsaw. It worked great to remove some of the limbs that came down. Another great video 👍👍👍👍👍

For what it is worth, I have a Toro battery powered 25" hedge trimmer. It's 10 years old; I believe it's an early model. I use it regularly and have had no issues at all. I am still using the same batteries I got when I purchased the trimmer; no issues at all. They hold a charge and work well. The unit is well made and I have to say I am more than impressed with its performance. Toro seems to have nailed manufacturing high quality battery powered products.

It is a nice looking unit, but I refuse to give into the electric hype nonsense!!! I'll always use my gas equipment. When I order parts for my trimmer, bp blower, push mower, tractor and snow blower I order several extra. I'm a old school fella and I really don't like change. So for me, has it is. On the other hand, it was a great video as always.

Thanks for sharing! I have a 1997 power shift toro 24” works great , add a linear actuator for my deflector on chute ! Now think of adding a window motor to turn my chute right and left instead of buying a new snow blow ! I like that should be quieter ! Just the price of the batteries to replace is my biggest concern!

@@donyboy73 unless the battery costs come WAY down on all of the bigger outdoor equipment, people will never buy it nor would they be financially or environmentally good products. I believe EGO. Ares a zero turn mower, it’s about $5,000 in the US and takes 4 batteries. The replacement costs for the batteries is $500 each. A zero turn gas mower will only need routine maintenance in 5 years, a battery machine will need new batteries. Who wants to buy $2k in batteries 5 years after paying $5k for the machine. A little grease and some oil changes are a lot cheaper than buying replacement batteries

I just Googled prices. High=$450 to low $290m on eBay. These are US $. Also - when comparing battery costs note the Toro 60v flex-force batteries come in different amp hour ratings: 6Ah, 7.5Ah and 10Ah.

I'm sorry to say but when those batteries don't charge anymore. Well you'll have a big like drill that you'll have to throw out as I'm sure the batteries will be just as much as the machine. This battery stuff is ridiculous. Eventually it will come full circle to where fuel driven snow blowers will come back. Really tired of everything going battery. Love you vid's and instructions. There have been a lot of cordless tool battery and Electric Vehicle battery fires over the last year. My brother in law's 11,000 square foot shop Woodie restoration shop was burned down by a fire that the fire department and insurance company said was started by a Li tool battery after an investigation. Toro recommends keeping the battery in the house. That doesn't seem like such a good idea to me, but since they don't like being frozen or being left in the sun, at least don't leave it on the charger after it's charged. Same for cordless tool batteries. If they have an internal short fault they can get very very hot almost instantly.

i will be testing the new 28 inch EGO 2 stage later this month...I did an initial testing on the 24 inch EGO and they actually used my idea to take off all wheel drive and be able to use single wheel drive so it was easier to turn at bottom of driveway....the EGO is 90% plastic but I haven't had any problems with with breakdowns of materials or anything like that with mowers, weed whackers or hedge trimmers or chainsaws...this Toro looks nice and will be an easy transition for any gas user out there....I still like my Ariens 26 inch machine though for snow but my electrics for everything else are great and into the future or lawn and outdoor tools...great video Don

I live in Buffalo, NY - we have a crazy relationship with snow in these parts. We got about 3 inches of wet slush this morning and the E24 unfortunately kept jamming up. Snow/slush would build up in the throwing chute and I'd have to clean it up manually every few minutes. Had to resort to a shovel. Quite the disappointment.

As with the auto industry the cost of Li-Ion batteries continue to soar. The problem with any EV or large outdoor power equipment is not usually the propulsion system or the power pkg but it is the batteries. Range, recharge time and battery degradation along with reduced operating times due to extreme cold will continue to plague battery operated devices. The larger the driveway/property you have the more batteries you will need. Heavy, wet snow is a battery devouring pain in the butt. These things will do the job nicely if you have the necessary battery quantities or can wait for the batteries to recharge. Once a new battery technology is developed this could be our future but until then as people learn their true limitations not so much. I will wait patiently for that day and in the meantime keep my trusty ICE powered unit that takes just a minute to refuel. I can’t count now how many rechargeable batteries and their different chargers I have currently. Soon I will need a shed just for chargers and batteries!

Don’t forget the cost as an issue. Replacement batteries will make these types of outdoor power equipment extremely expensive. The machines are $1800 or so in the US. If you need to buy $1,000 worth of replacement batteries after 4 or 5 years, that’s insane. Also no commercial users could use electric because there hours of use each day are far beyond when batteries can handle.

Cool tech . My sons a carpenter and has a big compound saw on sites that don’t have power . Same 2 - 60 amp batteries with the power cord option. My concern is customers bringing the batteries in before and after use . I’ll be very interested to see your video using it after a big storm .

Last winter my old Troybilt snowblower quit on me after a very heavy snow. I have an Toro dealer near me that delivers but they had no snowblowers in stock. There was a 24" Toro gas snowblower on the way to them, so I paid for it and had it delivered when it showed up. Other than using it a few times on pretty light snowfalls, it has just sat in the garage. I wish that I had waited now, but you never know with the weather. It has worked fine, but I wish that I had bought one of these electrics.

Range in a car is lost from cold cells and needing to generate heat, quite a different scenario. For snowblowers you put room temperature cells to work immediately in the cold so they don't ever get too cold and lose efficiency if used correctly.

Quick question, are the batteries each a 60 volt supply or are they 20 volts wired in series creating the 60 volts, or does it only run on 20 volts wired in parallel, curious about the third battery slot…with that said if it’s the latter the set up you have right now would only be 20 or 40 volts..

Whenever new technology comes there are always people clucking like chickens predicting high future repair repair costs. Supply and demand, kids. As there are more units in service, the market responds with aftermarket parts which forces down the prices of even oem parts. Also I know it's hard to accept but some people don't care about getting the cheapest. They want other attributes like quiet running, ease of use, no stink, no hauling and storage of gas that goes bad. For those that want the cheapest possible snow blowing option A crapped out 30 year old Craftsman is always going to be available on Craigslist.

I'd like to see the gearbox, is it really the same disk, etc. as a gas blower? I guess that's why the motor is always running when on. Having the switch on the handlebars would be a lot nicer, surprised they didn't do that. That rattling idler/tension pulley bracket would be really annoying, seems like it should be either thicker metal, or maybe the bolt that it swivels on is looser than it should be? While it would definitely add to the cost, I'd much prefer separate motor for the drive wheels so no need to run main motor all the time as well. What did this run you in Canada?

As with any Lithium Ion battery running to Zero charge will shorten the lifespan of the cells. Would like to know how much run time is achieved @ 50% drain. Fifty percent is where I swap out my battery tools to be recharged. As well, the blower needs an on/off (l/0) switch for headlamp and a more robust main battery compartment lid..a metal lid fitted with a lock/ unlock latch would be better. I'm sure as time goes on improvements will be made as real world use will demand. Thanks for sharing the unboxing of your battery electric snowblower. Best to you and yours.

Don't these power tool batteries typically have a built in BMS that automatically powers them off when they reach a certain level? So when the console reads 0 power left or whatever the battery in reality is just discharged to the low threshold not 0 volts. Typically with lithium cells you want to discharge them to the low threshold point for maxlife.

@@luuk-out-below9804 The sweet spot for longevity is 30% to 80% discharge. I prefer to stay @ 50% . Taking it down further shortens the life span. The low charge shutdown protection is to allow the lowest charge the battery charger will accept to begin recharging. If left at this low point for too many months the battery will further drain to the point that the battery charger will not initiate a new charge cycle. The high charge shutdown is to prevent overcharging to the point of battery explosion or fire. Old NiCad batteries had a memory that had to be reset by draining.. Not the case with Lithium Ion batteries. No battery of any type tolerates draining to the point it won't power the device it is attached to. Search ' draining lithium batteries' on your preferred search engine for the total education. Thanks for the reply.. All the best to you and yours. 👍

Also from my experience with lipos is they do have a memory of sorts as far as capacity and function longer with higher capacity if you take them to the 20% level monthly and store them at 80% when not using like off season. I typically just charge mine to 95% as well. But this is on a custom programable bms. These power tools it's all automatic as far as the full charge and discharge and hopefully toro has done their best to manage the bms for optimal life.

I'm not sure if you bought this for your personal use or not but I'd love a real-world test and maybe a "one year later" type video to let us know how well the machine has held up. How long does the battery last on a charge in our Ontario winters? How does it do in heavy snow/the windrow at the end of the driveway? How long to charge the batteries? How long do they hold a charge between uses? I'm in the market for a new blower and am on the fence about getting a battery operated one as compared toa tried and true gas engine. Good unboxing and first impression video. This type of snowblower will dominate the market over the next 5 to 10 years, simply because the average suburban consumer is I’ll equipped to maintain an internal combustion engine. Season 1 they are fine. Season 2 they are running it on choke. Season 3 they are bringing it to you (which is probably a good thing because they in addition to dealing with the fuel and fouled plug issue, they probably have not changed the oil or lubed anything.) However, I predict that the more rural user with a long driveway - who needs a couple hours of run time for a deeper snow - will need a good quality gas machine for the foreseeable future. That clunking sound bothers me, but it could be belt memory that will go away when it gets hot. And I think that control panel might be better placed on the operating console. But otherwise, it looks like a nice machine. Are those ball bearings on the auger shaft?

Being able to plug the machine in and have it charge the batteries would be nice so one doesn’t have to move the batteries out to charge. I just think if the idea of the electric is to make things easier, charging built in might be nice. Though I get it would add weight that would be a waste when actually operating it.

Using the chargers that came with this model, 3-3.5 hours to get the charger to stop blinking, which has been a bit of a bummer on one occasion. When the charger stops blinking the cells are actually only at 80% on these Toro chargers. It takes another hour to top off to 100. There are faster chargers that have integrated fans. Their commercial chargers only take about an hour I think, not positive. Slower charging induces far less stress on the cells so I would expect a longer lifespan using a slower charger.

They have a whole line. I've been using one of their lawnmowers for a couple years now - it is fantastic. This snowblower has been on my list - waiting to see how it performs.

I don’t trust it to work long enough, many times we blow the snow two to three times a day and the problem is when you charge the battery I’ve seen on other channels it’s a long process to charge

Yes, Electric snowblower will be better and better, but still need maintenance

Sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Check out the transmission, probably all plastic. Would not invest a cent in this machine. Thanks Dony for the video.
