Wow, a stunning array of Garnets there, all of them with their own geological story. Personally I found the Garnet family the most difficult species of gemstone to ever to study. 🤯

Great video. I wish it was longer and included the rare Masasi blues, Mali, Malaia, colorless, and color shift garnets. I have a bunch of q's. Are all garnets magnetic? If it's only the spessartine, ignoring clarity as an identifying feature, is it possible to isolate spessartines from pale orange hessonites using a magnet? Is it possible to sight-id a tsavorite vs. green demantoid if there's no horsetail clue? Could a magnet assist? For future videos, I'd like to see one about magnetic gemstones. Thanks and congrats if you made it through the entirety of my comment. LOL.

Deep fan of almandine garnet here. I did my PhD in a gold mine that has a garnet-biotite schist that looks a lot like the graphite-dravite-garnet you showed.

It is strange that Spessartine doesnt have iron or any magnetic element in it but is absorbed to magnet. I have lots of very rare Iranian Andradite, Topazolite and Demantoid including a magnificent 0.7kg+ killer Androdite specimen from a mine that isn't being mined (someone went in and took a few things). Let me know if you are interested, I can send photos.

Aside from tourmaline, garnet is my largest collection! I absolutely love it, especially tsavorite and Rhodolite! Both have amazing colors, plus garnet crystals are just so cool! I have a small spessartine cluster in my collection that exhibits the crystal structure very well! Definitely a big favorite, awesome video! 💎 I got super lucky to purchase a very very tiny Demantoid, i absolutely love Demantoids fire! If I HAD to choose a favorite, I’d go with Rhodolite with intense purple shades

I live in Ga. An I know nothing about gem stones, but my grandson an I picked up many of old looking rocks that had red stones just basically fall off by picking it with your finger nail. Dark red and more like crystals from their shapes. Over the years we had a plastic lunch bag with around two hundred of the stones. I just figured they were garnets since garnets aren't rare. You'll be amazed at what you can find when walking .

I can agree with dudes pic 4 closer look!!!! Just beautiful and very rare!!!! And I'm a huge fan of all things iridescent so I didn't even know Garnet could make iridescence so that's just incredible to me!!!!! I see that Garnet surrounded by perfectly cut white topaz on thin platinum band . Maybe with 2 tiny Marquee cut teal sapphires on the very sides of the band!!!!!!!! And I pick surrounded by white topaz because I don't want anything too shiny take away from the iridescence of that amazing two in one garnet!!!!! And the band because it needs to be thin but strong enough to protect softer Stones has to be made in Platinum but I don't want it held with claws more like the rounded almost beaded prongs!!!!!!

I've always loved garnets, one of my prize possessions is a star garnet (6 carats) in a gold ring setting, it is a deep red, I think it is a Pyrope. I have other garnets too. You guys are great but you never mention any of the "mystical" lapidary secrets...garnet is the "old maid's stone" because of it's use in Victorian mourning jewelry, it was said to put iron in the spine of a spinster! Garnet is one of the 3 "bloodstones", the Romans would set them in the hilts of swords to staunch the blood of wounds, Garnet was said to give courage and inspire valor. The AngloSaxon sword of Redewulf found at Sutton Hoo has a hilt set with garnets. This is part of the ancient lore of stones, wear a garnet and take courage! By the way the other 2 bloodstones are Hematite (it "bleeds" when you grind it) and the green jasper known as "Bloodstone" with the inclusions of red jasper redolent of the "Blood of Christ". You guys should mention the ancient lore of stones occasionally, you know folks are curious about the alleged magical powers of gemstones...there is a wealth of information to talk about there.
@hybridgoth2 жыл бұрын
Start an argument with on sentence Hydrogrossular shouldn't really even be considered a garnet. Now that I got that out of my system.🙂 I'm stuck torn between spessartine and pyrope when it comes to picking a favourite garnet, usually I prefer to collect spessartines, yet, I can't ignore how brilliantly clean and simultaneously pale some pyrope can be. Decisions like these that are made even more difficult when isomorphism is considered... If I just pick the pyralspite group I'm pretty sure my favourite is somewhere in there🙄

When I woke up one was gone, and she looked guilty AF. Never did find it. Happy New year to ya'll. BTW...... My whole body hangs from your cheekbones gurl. Like for real. Gorge☺🥳
