My ancestors immigrated to Iowa in 1852. They landed in New York and only had enough money to buy one small wagon and an ox. They all couldn't fit in the small wagon so they took turns who got to ride and who had to walk....all the way to Iowa. They settled initially in Tama county in which all their neighbors were Meskwaki Indians. They got along very well, where my family ancestors did blacksmithing work for any tribal members that needed it. Later on my great great grandfather moved to Cedar Rapids and opened a saloon. My family passed down these stories so we never would forget where we came from.

I'm a Black dude, and I have to agree. I was a registered Democrat all my life and I realized people in the blue states are garbage and rude as hell. I thought being rude was normal behavior until I visited Texas, Georgia, Idaho, and Iowa and I LOVED the people there. People in red states are nice, kind, and most importantly Considerate of others. I've never seen this before. I grew up in the Washington DC area and I NEVER made a single friend at all, they accused me of being too nice! I hated it! I see why the Nice red states are afraid of the blue infections. If your states has to remain red in order to maintain your kind charm so be it. Being from extreme rural Nebraska and now living in SOuth Dakota with many friends and in-laws from IA we give them a lot of guff but honestly Iowa is the best of both worlds. Small town IA doesn’t seem to be depleting like their western neighbors. I attribute that to IA being in the sweet spot for ag industry especially farming. In NE and SD especially out west we don’t want to compromise range frowns for crop land cause then you lose valuable acres for beef production plus it’s so arris that it takes a lot of work to get a good yield.

Loved this video series. One of the best watching experiences on KZbin, without a doubt. And to all those asking for an unboxing of Canada series, my family and my wife's family and most of our friends have been living in Canada since before it was known by that name. Allow me to summarize: Every corner of this country is either cursed with miserable weather, impossibly unaffordable, as exciting as a load of bread, or, perplexingly, all of the above. Picture USA but without the cultural or scientific output, and with fewer stunning landscapes. There's a reason why so many Canadians end up in USA. Sadly, the cost of living has been rising and the quality of life here has been plummeting steadily for the past 20 years or so. The only reason anyone moves to Canada anymore is to flee an even worse country. Count yourselves lucky, Americans. You've got it pretty good in comparison.

Sadly, Mulhollands has recently burned down. The town of Malvern suffered a great loss here. So nice to see it again in this video! I moved here in my young 20's (SW Iowa) to a town of 5500 from a small city in AZ of 25,000. I loved the idea of it, but quickly hated it because of the lack of things to do for young people. but yet here i am now, 25 years later, I still get frustrated that i cant get certain things or have fun activities with out an hour drive to Omaha. But i love only driving 2 miles to work, only filling up on gas every 2 weeks, and knowing who my nieghbors are.

I can't speak from experience, but his video on Nebraska made it seem like Lincoln and Omaha (except the ghetto north part) seem like cool places with sort of the best of both worlds. I'm from Massachusetts where we love to toot our own horns about the supposed quality of our education (which is mostly anti-white ideology rather than actual math, science, and objectively taught history anyway), but look at Worcester MA: our roads look like fuckin' Afghanistan, there's litter everywhere with weeds poking out and rusty fire hydrants and crap, with aggressive low IQ people ready to kick your head in if you accidently step on their foot, or who would run you down with their cars and/or bikes rather than turn slightly. Nick's videos on Lincoln, Omaha, and Boise while filming showed beautifully maintained, trash free streets, less crowding, and people who seem like they don't want to bother anyone and don't need to prove their dick sizes to the world.

Yes Iowans are nice people in General... Im not an Iowa native.. my family moved here from California when I was 3 years old and I've lived here basically my whole life ever since... 30+ years now I've lived in Iowa.. being raised in Iowa and growing up in Iowa certainly has been an interesting life experience... There's never seems to be a boring or dull moment living in Iowa... Iowans know how to stick together through terrible times and we help each other out even if you're a complete stranger in times of need... Iowa tough, Iowa strong... When times get tough IOWANS remain strong and resilient fighting Natural disasters together and cleaning up after them together and seems to bring Iowans closer together... Here's just a few natural disasters that brought IOWANS closer together since I've lived here in Iowa, Flood of 1993 , Iowa derachio 1998, flood of 2008, flood of 2017 and the most recent one Iowa derachio 2020.... IOWA just like every state does have it's ups and downs but Iowa all ways finds a way to bounce back rather quickly and faster than any other state in America with recovery efforts after a natural disaster happens or occurres

Born in Iowa, left at 18, no job for a short skinny kid. Visited it all my life, sometimes a half dozen times a year. I believe I have driven every national and state numbered highway in the state, many, many rural farm to market blacktops and thousands of gravel roads and dirt roads as well as a pasture or two... maybe a lot more than that when I was younger. More young people don't want to continue in farming because unless you inherit a farm, its extremely costly to become established as a farmer and you probably need a good playing job outside the farm until you can become established. A farmer is a business person with no control over the price of the commodities that they produce, or the weather. And its a lot of work so you need an extended family to help with the work.
@TheOnlyOneStanding80793 жыл бұрын
@@timothykeith1367 Geez I would sell the farm
@timothykeith13673 жыл бұрын
@@TheOnlyOneStanding8079 If farmers make it to their 50s they have substantial equity - which is a real freedom to be your own boss. But to inherit a farm they might need to be in their 50s as the older generation needs to retire first - with better medical care older farmers are working more years. So, a younger person might work part time on the farm to help their parents, then work in town as maybe an engineer. Now, finally at say say age 48, they become a farmer fulltime as the place passes to them. A younger farmer will rent the land from someone else. As a rule, if they can buy land for less than they can rent, then they will purchase it. The low interest rates in recent years helped, but land can cost $12,000 an acre and they would need maybe 1,000 acres, with 2 or 3 thousand much better. So, the best hope is to inherit a multigeneration farm, maybe 4, 5 or 6 generations. But, farmers usually don't have just one heir, so the land often is broken up from an estate sale. In the 19th century in some European societies the oldest son would inherit the whole shebang and the other heirs would get almost nothing. Keeping a farm together and growing its acreage for five generations is not common. Having acquired a mostly debt free farm from inheritance is the best way to get into farming. They are not making anymore land, even billionaires such as Bill Gates have been buying farm land because everyone knows its a limited commodity in a world that needs more food. The long term outlook for wealth invested in rural land is very positive. Many family farmers are relatively small because the farmer and his wife both have fulltime jobs. They don't want to expand, they don't want to own the latest technology and equipment. But they enjoy the security of owning a decent sized place of their own where they can drive motorcycles and off road Jeeps, hunt and enjoy the familiar surroundings for a lifetime. Its a powerful impulse that fewer Americans can enjoy in 2021, fewer another decade from now.
