Sam, thanks for an excellent discussion on thread chaser sharpening. I'm not a chaser yet but the more I watch you talking about it the more interested I become. Who knows, maybe one of these days................🙂🙂

Thanks for sharing that one Sam! I think I'll try to sharpen mine on the CBN wheel. Been leery of that and just used my diamond hone. Thanks for showing us how to do that! Take care, Dave

Sam, I would be interested in your comparing the Crown style of rounded threads with those of a more traditional shape like the Carter or Sorby. I can't believe I am up to 5 sets of thread chasers after watching your thread chasing videos for the past 11 years!

Thread chasing is a great way to close a box. I don't have a 12 tpi chaser set yet, maybe one day.

This is a really valuable video, Sam. I have wanted a 12tpi set for some time, though for infrequent use. I have numerous Crown tools, and they are all excellent. However, in the mean time I ground my own "Monochaser" from an old firmer chisel bought for £1.50, and it works pretty well. I commonly use an Ashley Iles 16tpi Unichaser for boxes if not power chasing with my own design of jig. I should be interested to know your range of tpi's and how you deploy them. At the extremes I have tried die cutting threads on pens (unsuccessfully), and use a box cutter for gavels &c. Thanks. Bernard.

Doesn't the wood expand and contract and either make the threads so tight you can't get it back apart or so lose that the threads don't have good contact?

I like the Carter and Son chasers. What's your opinion on them?

I have a set. They are really good. Sam

Sam, would it work to use a diamond hone to sharpen a thread chaser instead of the grinder?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely a hone would work very well, and I often do this. Sometimes you have to go back to the Grinder to make it look a little better. Sam.

I plant to learn to chase threads in the near future. I already have the tools. What is the tool called that makes the groove at the end of the threads?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER Жыл бұрын
Hi Carol, That is the recess tool. You can make one from an allan wrench. Let me know how I can help you get started. Sam

Thanks Sam, very helpful. Have yet to try my new thread chasing Sorbey tools, I will sharpen them first! Don’t have really any very hard suitable wood to try on. Have you ever considered practicing on pvc or corian pieces? Stay safe. Lots of great rain over here in Clancy.
