I’m curious.. what lathe do you have, and what lathe do you want? Let me know below Thanks for watching. 👍🏻

I have a Minimax T124 copy lathe, with all the copy parts removed, got it very very cheap ... a better tool rest and a variable speed motor would make it ideal. A Laguna Revo 18/36 lathe would go down nicely, but not at that ludicrous price!!
@henniebasson515 Жыл бұрын
I still use an old Myford ML8, "modified" with a 1 hp motor & speed-controll. I also have a Jet JWL-1221VS. And I really would have liked one of those American Robust lathes, but alas - I am a poor South African. Love your work. Kind regards.

I have a lathe left to me by my dad. It is a small Craftsman wood lathe, completely not suited to what I want to work with once I retire. I would to get one of the larger Jet lathes by the time I retire; hoping to supplement retirement with a few bowls and other projects. Thank you for the videos!

Cool. Very warm look to the grain. I have a wood lathe and a metal lathe. I got them from my grandfather. They are quite old. They are both bench top units AND use a leather belt to spin. They have 3 speeds and all you do is slip the belt to a different sized spindle. My grandfather would use a screwdriver to flip the belt and do it while it was turning; not me. I haven't used them in years. Glad I have you to watch.

Beautiful piece of yew Jack, nicely done. My lathe at slowest rpm to rotate and let epoxy dry gets the motor pretty warm for the length of time it takes to dry! Suggestions? Thanks as always.
@JackMackWoodturning Жыл бұрын
Maybe rig a small slow motor to the spindle of the lathe with a pulley.. mount motor on a piece of ply and clamp to the bedways with a pulley lashed over the business end of the spindle or around your chuck. Sure you could get a fairly cheap slow running motor online no problem

A truly beautiful and big piece of Yew ... I've not worked up the courage to try burning the wood yet, but every time I see it done it looks amazing ... It looked like an awful lot of hollowing, but worth it in the end! What a fantastic result and I especially liked the resin, it really made the grain come alive👍

How did you remove the tenon on the bottom? Sanding? Great idea burning the top profile! Thanks for sharing!
@JackMackWoodturning Жыл бұрын
I always turn the tenon away. Sanding that much wood is extremely ineffective and I hate dust in the workshop. You can see the process on many of my videos but it’s a bit tedious to Show every week. 👍🏻
