@steveb74298 ай бұрын
You obviously have never been to ‘ashTABula’ , which is a complete mispronunciation. You would know the correct pronunciation if you actually went there, yet you determined that it’s a terrible place. You obviously have not done your research, because a lot of your statements are based less on facts and more on your opinions. For the record, as any Ohioan will tell you, it’s pronounced “Ash-ta-bU-la”

I pay $1,200 a month for a room in the Bay Area. And I lived in Ohio for 15 years. Do I regret moving here and paying so much? Hell no! Folks here are 1000x nicer and more intelligent than the average person I would run across in Ohio. It seems folks in Ohio are just miserable because of where they live, so they want to pass their misery off to you. That being said, like anywhere, I have met some cool people when I lived there. But I really had to go far out of my way to meet them. As I tell people in California all the time "I miss some of the people, but I'll never miss the place!" Also, do yourself a favor. Never, EVER stop in Toledo, Akron, or Dayton unless you want to be shot. Just saying!

Ohio is a microcosm of the USA. It’s got three big cities, multiple medium sized cities, and countless small towns. The northeast (Connecticut Western Reserve) where I was born, is more like New England. We always referred to the southeast part of Ohio as West Virginia. I notice when I drive up from North Carolina I see more confederate flags in southern Ohio than I do in North Carolina-it’s not even close! The northwest is flat and boring, and southwest Ohio has Cincinnati, the South’s northernmost city. Columbus and central Ohio are the booming part and the most diverse part of the state. With that much diversity Ohio is a lot like every region of the country. Northeast Ohio is the cloudiest place place in the lower 48 after the Pacific Northwest. The constant gray skies are one of the main reasons I left the state for the Carolina blue skies of NC. Ohio weather is definitely not a strong point, especially those dark winters! By the way, Ashtabula is pronounced Ash-tah-BEEU-la. The Michigan hate is very real. Did know Ohio defeated Michigan in a war? It’s true. It was fought over…wait for it…Toledo! As losers, Michigan got the Upper Peninsula. Ohio is not a state that will WOW you immediately. It lacks the spectacular mountains or coast that some states have, it’s cities aren’t quite as exciting as our top tier urban areas, but if you give Ohio a chance your patience will be rewarded. Cleveland has one of the top art museums in the country and the USA’s top symphony orchestra, as well as the Rock and Roll hall of fame and some very diverse and interesting ethnic neighborhoods. Lake Erie is lovely, cedar point has more rollercoasters than anywhere else, all three of its major cities (the Three C’s) have a burgeoning dining scene, the Ohio River is beautiful although most of the River towns are depressing (with the exception of Ohio’s first city, Marietta). The people of Ohio are definitely friendly and they are pretty open and easy to get to know. All-in-all, Ohio is a pretty down-to-earth state. Not a pretentious place, and it’s simultaneously booming in places like Columbus while it’s rusting away in Youngstown and Toledo. It really is a fascinating place that is filled with many contrasts. And do you notice all the national newscasters and most actors all sound like they’re from Ohio? The Ohio accent has been the gold standard of American English for as long as I’ve been alive.

I think on the national stage Ohio’s Big Three “C’s” are more medium - sized cities. Historically, Cleveland was in the nation’s top ten until about 60 years ago. Now it’s way down the list. Like #50 in size Cincinnati had its hey days in the top 10 in the 1800’s , and it’s smaller than Cleveland. Columbus ranks #14, but like Cleveland and Cincinnati, its metro is way down the list - all three metro areas are ranked in the mid to 20’s nationally. Sacramento has a larger metro than any place found in Ohio. Ohio has seen better days.

It's noted to be the state that really acts as a microcosm of the entire US. Ohio needs to lead the charge of becoming a self-sustaining economy if the US is to survive the political pressures of globalization that will increasingly seek, for geopolitical reasons, to break up the US by taking over the economic dependency on the federal government. @chrisburnett99053 жыл бұрын
True. It's called Standard American English. In Ohio, it's spoken by people who were born and bred north of I-70 and south of Toledo, Cleveland, roughly on a line south of I-76 in Eastern Ohio and then US 20 as you head west. It's heart is the route of US 30, the old Lincoln Highway, an east-west major highway. I grew up in Ashland, just north of US 30, and was born in Columbus. People who live to the north, in New York, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota (including Chicago) have a more flat nasal way of talking, and clip off a lot of words. As you go south of I-70 toward West Virginia and Kentucky people, especially in the small towns, tend to draw out their words like folks in the South.

However the cost of living is 75% lower here as are the property taxes! But they can't afford to pay police officers or teachers a decent wage can't repair roads very often, they have no clue how to act when it snows! They just panic & in the 22 years I've been here the snow has been no deeper than 2 inches & gone by the next day but yet they mob the grocery stores & wipe out all the bread & milk & bottled water that can be found! I'm not kidding! We get the biggest laugh from these people! The traffic here is horrible most of the time! Also, there is no state income tax, that's why they can't pay police & teachers a decent wage! Yet they allow any one with a boat, trailer, camper that can be towed to go license free! I will say one good thing, it is beautiful here with the mountains & the tourist traps in the mountains but the poverty here is horrendous to say the least! This guy who made this video calls people from West Virginia hillbillies . He hasn't seen this place! I can't count the refrigerators I've seen on front porches along with the washer & sofas! There are people in this beautiful state that are in the military, in the fields growing lots of food for the country to enjoy at lower prices than most states, preparing good food to enjoy at their state fairs, running a typically attentive state government and keeping GOD’S Word with them - I’ve met some of these people and they never would wish anything bad onto those of us in Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago or or Baltimore or Boston, in fact they would wish is only the best of peace of mind. It is very rude and judgmental thing to knock these people down when they have given so much to help the country build itself up. And yes it is true that Ohio is a mainly quiet and (quite frankly if I might say so) a reserved state - one of the strongest economies in the United States is The State of Ohio, they could very easily afford all these things like night clubs, casino resorts, marijuana pubs and bars, dance clubs that are open 24/7 - all these things the people in this State could afford all these things, but the BOTTOM LINE IS THIS : they do not want them for the most part. The people here would rather have peace, quiet, and safe areas to live with a Church in each town. I’m from Philadelphia and I can honestly say that the fact that they CAN DEFINITELY AFFORD all of these thing YET THEY CHOOSE NOT TO THIS shows wholesome traits and qualities. Such things as restraint, keeping the family, being wise with how a person spends their livelihood, keeping away from dangerous harmful vices like gambling, drugs or alcohol, choosing to work and embrace hardship rather than go to some sort of dance club. Now of course these things like dance clubs and gambling joints are all over the world including in Ohio, but to a much smaller scale. True that the people there aren’t always hip or fun, but they have (many of them) a lot of love to give and a joyful state to share. People from the Middle West in general tend to often times (though not always by all means) be more “old fashioned” or less likely to hit the clubs and play the slots, but the majority of them chose industry, faith and kindness over these things. That’s honestly what I call a true character. I do not want to sound preachy or self-righteousness in this long comment, but this is not the actual truth of Ohio - it’s a quiet but fair state in the sense that it is a place of clean and wholesome industry for the most part, and the people are nice. I’ve met plenty of exciting people over the years who always seem to encounter trouble and don’t seem to always get the message. I conclude on this one note - I personally like and admire the people of Ohio and other MidWestern States. In fact I encourage others to go and visit this Ohio, there are a lot of nice people there and it is a place for a traveler to sort of unwind and watch the sunset and appreciate all of the blessings that they have. I promise you that Ohio is a fine state to enjoy good food and good company at no mistake. God bless and remember that if you’ve nothing productive or kind to say, it is best to say nothing at all. ✝️ 👍 😃

Came from California 7 years ago(part of the exodus) and fell in love with this state and the people. It's beautiful here. Variety of culture. Visit Cali every year just to remind myself what I don't miss about it. Met dozens of people that are Cali transplants and all feel the same.

What part of California? I live in the Bay Area, and, even though it's expensive, I think it's worth every penny compared to Ohio! Though luckily I don't have any children, nor do I ever plan on having any.
