Toying with getting one of these. The price is right. Locally they have 5 or 6 in the Dragon Fruit color for $721. An inexpensive amp would get me back into playing guitar after 40 years. Yeah, I am old AF.

The SE has a standard PRS Nut & TRC style - the US made has a more traditional 'F-type' nut and TRC. Tuners are standard non-locking versions,neck is satin and 8.5" radius, different body woods, 2pt vs 6pt bridge, different Pups (a bit hotter and constructed differently), etc etc but still gets 'very' close to the US version in terms of body shape and tonal characteristics...

Thanks for sharing. The SE got different type pickups. The US made Silver Sky 's pickups won't work on cheaper guitar! Too much several the body wood tone!

Which comfort aspect of this was different than a strat for you?

@@hibernative hello. Specifically the neck carve, fret size/ finishing, and sound after I set the pickup height to near prs standard spec. Something about the neck I can just grab chords with my eyes closed and I feel it’s very easy to bend exactly to pitch. I used to play on a 7.25 radius all the way up to 13.75 and I guess I like a rounder radius for what and how I play.

I got one same color, I wanted blue one but they only had dragon fruit. Strings are 10-46 , to big for my taste but plays and sounds good. Great quality for 850.00. I was impressed with it. Always good to see your opinion on guitars. I'm going to try and return for a different color. The thing about it is it is unique, the hype and demo,s got me interested. I like strats so it's a unique strat. Playing it is fun, thanks Tomo.

Just got my SE today. So far so good.... but a dumb QC issue. The red wire for the jack was wrapped around inside the jack, and it was preventing the lead cord from from being inserted. It took me 30 sec to remove the jack and correct it. But it obviously had not been checked.

One other thing I just noticed that I don't think I've seen mentioned anywhere is that the neck is made from two pieces. The headstock is actually bonded onto the neck. I'm hoping that doesn't become an issue as everything ages....

the only things i can think of visually that you didn't mention is the pickups are a slightly darker colour, and the truss rod cover is much larger. then there are different pickups as well, but idk about the rest of the electronics

The USA PRS Silver Sky in my opinion is over rated. The 2-piece neck joint was hard to spot but turned me off. I also prefer a standard bridge vs the 2 post style. The ONLY thing I like are the colors. Rather use a Stratocaster, but nice try PRS anyway.

The reason you don't like the Silver Sky SE is it's not a True 22 fret Strat like guitar like Leo's Fender Strat is with the sweet neck pickup placed in the middle of the 12th fret to the bridge. The Silver Sky core model is like a Loe's Original Strat with a sweet neck pickup placed in the middle of the 12th fret to the bridge. Strats, Tele's Les Paul's all have the sweet neck pickup placed in the middle of the 12th fret to the bridge. This Silver Sky SE will never be any good and it is by PRS design, it is like the difference between a PRS Custom 24 and a Custom 22. Through away the Silver Sky SE before it drives you crazy trying to figure this out. They Tricked us all.

I was actually thinking of buying the “real” Silver Sky but now I won’t buy either..Why would I spend the extra money for a great signature model guitar only to have a budget model that is just as good? Why didn’t PRS just leave the Silver Sky alone? John of course wanted it for the money he will make..is nothing sacred anymore?

I have to say, having this guitar made affordable is one of the best things John and PRS has done. The differences in the US model are there because John Mayer wanted it so, if that suits you thats the guitar for you. The SE will surely become one of the highest selling in the PRS lineup. In my eyes, thats a win win for us and PRS. Cheaper guitars will only get better sounding as the years come but it doesn't take away from the prestige of signature models.

All the reviews are great for the SE, so why would I purchase the signature model?..the point being, they have dumbed down the signature model by making the SE affordable and just as good as the original..some reviews have even said the p/u’s are better in the SE..of course now no one will be buying the signature model..including myself..

You know what I don’t people like you who only teach at schools. I get that if you have a good talent and you can live off of it, make some money but to all you old heads who have musical wisdom that can be taught widespread to the newer generations but rather play at places like Berkelee institutions of “economic music theory university” that is lame. I forget that guys name but he’s not even that good he’s just extra consitipated with sounds all which sound like the real authentic players.... john Mayer there we go. And KZbin lessons are cool and all but realistically god made humans to learn with each other so to all the old heads hiding in colleges 👎🏽, and sure thanks for your 15 second “remember this lick but have no reasoning why” but it’s rather pointless.
